Proverbs 22

¹ A good name is better than great riches, and loving favor is better than silver and gold.

³ A prudent man sees evil and takes refuge. The simple (fool) (inexperienced) keep going and suffers.

³ A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

³ The ^(C)prudent sees the evil and hides himself,But the ^(b)naive go on, and are punished for it.

³ A sensible person sees danger and takes cover,but the inexperienced keep going and are punished.^(C)

³ The prudent person sees trouble ahead and hides, but the naive continue on and suffer the consequences.

⁵ Thorns and snares are in the way of the wicked. He who guards his life will stay far away from them.

¹¹ Whoever loves purity and gracious speech will gain the king as his friend.

¹³ The lazy man says: There is a lion outside. I will be killed in the streets.

¹³ The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.

¹³ The ^(N)sluggard says, “There is a lion outside;I will be killed in the streets!”

¹³ The slacker says, “There’s a lion outside!I’ll be killed in the public square!”^(O)

¹³ The lazy person says, "There is a lion outside! I will be killed in the street!"

¹⁵ Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child. The rod of discipline (instruction) will drive it far from him.

¹⁵ Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

¹⁵ A child's heart has a tendency to do wrong, but the rod of discipline removes it far away from him.

¹⁷ Incline your ear and listen to the words of the wise. Apply your heart and mind to my knowledge.

¹⁷ Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.

¹⁷ Pay attention and listen to the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my teaching,

¹⁹ Your trust may be in Jehovah. I taught you today, even you.

¹⁹ That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

¹⁹ So that your ^(V)trust may be in the Lord,I have ^(k)taught you today, even you.

¹⁹ I have instructed you today—even you—so that your confidence may be in the Lord.

¹⁹ As a result, your trust will be in the LORD, that's why I'm teaching you today, even you.

²¹ I make you know the certainty of the words of truth. And you will answer the words of truth to those who speak to you.

²¹ That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

²¹ To make you ^(X)know the ^(m)certainty of the words of truthThat you may ^(n)(Y)correctly answer him who sent you?

²¹ in order to teach you true and reliable words,so that you may give a dependable report^(g)(T)to those who sent you?^(U)

²¹ to teach you true and reliable advice, so you can give truthful answers to those who sent you?

²³ Jehovah will plead their cause and take the life of those who rob them.

²³ For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

²³ For the Lord will ^(AB)plead their caseAnd ^(o)take the life of those who rob them.

²³ for the Lord will take up their case^(X)and will plunder those who plunder them.

²³ for the LORD will plead their case and ruin the lives of those who ruin them.

²⁵ If you do you will learn his ways and you will become trapped.

²⁵ Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

²⁵ Or you will ^(AD)learn his waysAnd ^(p)find a snare for yourself.

²⁵ or you will learn his ways^(Z)and entangle yourself in a snare.

²⁵ or you may learn his ways and find yourself caught in a trap.

²⁷ If you have nothing to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?

²⁷ If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

²⁷ If you have nothing with which to pay,Why should he ^(AF)take your bed from under you?

²⁷ If you have no money to pay,even your bed will be taken from under you.^(AB)

²⁷ If you don't have the ability to pay, why should your very bed be taken from under you?

²⁹ Do you see a man diligent in his business? He will stand before kings. He will not stand before unknown men.

²⁹ Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

²⁹ Do you see a man skilled in his work?He will ^(AH)stand before kings;He will not stand before obscure men.

²⁹ Do you see a man skilled in his work?He will stand in the presence of kings.He will not stand in the presence of unknown men.^(AD) >
