6 Forsake ignorance, and ye shall live: and see that ye go in the way of understanding."
6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.
6 Leave inexperience behind, and you will live;pursue the way of understanding.
6 Leave your naive ways, and live. Walk in the path of understanding."
7 Whoso reproveth a scornful person, getteth himself dishonour: and he that rebuketh the ungodly, staineth himself.
7 He who (M)corrects a scoffer gets dishonor for himself,And he who reproves a wicked man gets (e)insults for himself.
7 He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.
7 The one who corrects a mockerwill bring dishonor on himself;the one who rebukes a wicked man will get hurt.(a)
7 Whoever corrects a mocker invites only insult, and whoever rebukes the wicked will himself become stained.
9 Give a discrete man but an occasion, and he will be the wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase.
9 Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser,Teach a righteous man and he will (P)increase his learning.
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
9 Counsel a wise man, and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man, and he will add to his learning.
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of holy things is understanding.
10 The (Q)fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,(L)and the knowledge of the Holy One(M) is understanding.
10 The fear of the LORD is where wisdom begins, and knowing holiness demonstrates understanding.
11 For through me thy days shall be prolonged, and the years of thy life shall be many.
11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.
11 For by Wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life.
11 For because of me you will live a long life, and years will be added to your life.
12 If thou be wise, thy wisdom shall do thyself good: but if thou thinkest scorn thereof, it shall be thine own harm.
12 If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.
12 If you are wise, you are wise for your own benefit;(N)if you mock, you alone will bear the consequences.”
12 If you are wise, your wisdom will assist you. If you mock, you alone will be held responsible.
14 sitteth in the doors of her house upon a stool above in the city,
14 For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,
14 She sits by the doorway of her house,on a seat at the highest point of the city,
14 She sits at the entrance of her house, on a seat high above the city.
16 "Who so is ignorant," sayeth she, "let him come hither." And to the unwise she sayeth,
16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
16 “Whoever is inexperienced, enter here!”To the one who lacks sense, she says,
16 "Whoever is naive, turn in here!" And to anyone lacking sense, she says,
18 But they consider not that death is there, and that her guests go down to hell.
18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.
18 But he doesn’t know that the departed spirits are there,(S)that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.(T)
18 But he does not realize that the dead lurk there, and her invited guests wind up in the depths of Sheol.
