But the descendants of Judah could not drive out the Jebusites who lived in Jerusalem.
So the Jebusites live in Jerusalem among the descendants of Judah to this day.
But, they did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer.
So the Canaanites live in Ephraim to this day, but they are forced laborers.
The descendants of Manasseh could not possess these cities, because the Canaanites were determined to stay in this land.
For if you turn away and cling to the rest of these nations remaining among you,
and if you intermarry or associate with them and they with you,
The Lord was with
Judah and enabled them to take possession of the hill country, but they could not drive out the people who were living in the valley because those people had iron chariots.
Then the disciples approached Jesus privately and said, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
you must drive out all the inhabitants of the land before you, destroy all their stone images
and cast images, and demolish all their high places.
and when the Lord your God delivers them over to you and you defeat them, you must completely destroy them. Make no treaty with them and show them no mercy.
However, you must not let any living thing survive among the cities of these people the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance.
1 Samuel 15:3
Now go and attack the Amalekites and completely destroy everything they have.
Do not spare them. Kill men and women, children and infants, oxen and sheep, camels and donkeys.’”
The Asherites lived among the Canaanites who were living in the land, because they failed to drive them out.
