There were those who dwelt in darkness and in the shadow of death,

Prisoners in misery and chains,

God

makes a home for the lonely;

He leads out the prisoners into prosperity,
Only the rebellious dwell in a parched land.

“Let darkness and black gloom claim it;
Let a cloud settle on it;
Let the blackness of the day terrify it.

Before I go—and I shall not return—

To the land of darkness and deep shadow,

“He does not believe that he will return from darkness,
And he is destined for the sword.

“He has walled up my way so that I cannot pass,
And He has put darkness on my paths.

To bring back his soul from the pit,
That he may be enlightened with the light of life.

The Lord

restored the fortunes of Job when he prayed for his friends, and the Lord increased all that Job had twofold.

“I will lead the blind by a way they do not know,
In paths they do not know I will guide them.
I will make darkness into light before them
And rugged places into plains.
These are the things I will do,
And I will not leave them undone.”

Saying to those who are bound, ‘Go forth,’
To those who are in darkness, ‘Show yourselves.’
Along the roads they will feed,
And their pasture will be on all bare heights.

“Arise, shine; for your light has come,
And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.

for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a

holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

To hear the groaning of the prisoner,
To set free those who were doomed to death,

Until the time that his word came to pass,
The word of the Lord

tested him.

O Lord, surely I am Your servant,
I am Your servant, the son of Your handmaid,
You have loosed my bonds.

Who executes justice for the oppressed;
Who gives food to the hungry.
The Lord

sets the prisoners free.

“And if they are bound in fetters,
And are caught in the cords of affliction,

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
Because the Lord has anointed me
To bring good news to the

afflicted;

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to captives
And freedom to prisoners;

Now it came about in the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-fifth of the month, that Evil-merodach king of Babylon, in the first year of his reign,

showed favor to Jehoiachin king of Judah and brought him out of prison.

As for you also, because of the blood of My covenant with you,
I have set your prisoners free from the waterless pit.

But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the gates of the prison, and taking them out he said,

And behold, an angel of the Lord suddenly appeared and a light shone in the cell; and he struck Peter’s side and woke him up, saying, “Get up quickly.” And his chains fell off his hands.

and suddenly there came a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison house were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were unfastened.
