1 Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.
1 Rejoice in the LORD, righteous ones; for the praise of the upright is beautiful.
1 Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous ones;Praise is becoming and appropriate for those who are upright [in heart—those with moral integrity and godly character].
2 Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.
2 With the lyre, give thanks to the LORD; with the ten stringed harp, play music to him;
2 Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre;Sing praises to Him with the harp of ten strings.
3 Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.
3 with a new song, sing to him; with shouts of joy, play skillfully.
3 Sing to Him a new song;Play skillfully [on the strings] with a loud and joyful sound.
4 For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.
4 For the word of the LORD is upright; and all his works are done in faithfulness.
4 For the word of the Lord is right;And all His work is done in faithfulness.
5 He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.
5 He loves righteousness and justice; the world is filled with the gracious love of the LORD.
5 He loves righteousness and justice;The earth is full of the lovingkindness of the Lord.
6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
6 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made; all the heavenly bodies by the breath of his mouth.
7 He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses.
7 He gathered the oceans into a single place; he put the deep water into storehouses.
7 He gathers the waters of the sea together as in a wineskin;He puts the deeps in storehouses.
8 Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.
8 Let all the world fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him;
8 Let all the earth fear and worship the Lord;Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.
9 For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.
9 because he spoke and it came to be, because he commanded, it stood firm.
9 For He spoke, and it was done;He commanded, and it stood fast.
10 The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect.
10 The LORD makes void the counsel of nations; he frustrates the plans of nations.
10 The Lord nullifies the counsel of the nations;He makes the thoughts and plans of the people ineffective.
11 The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.
11 But the LORD's counsel stands firm forever, the plans in his mind for all generations.
11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever,The thoughts and plans of His heart through all generations.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.
12 How blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he has chosen as his own inheritance.
13 The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men.
13 When the LORD looks down from heaven, he observes every human being.
13 The Lord looks [down] from heaven;He sees all the sons of man;
14 From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth.
14 From his dwelling place, he looks down on all the inhabitants of the earth.
14 From His dwelling place He looks closelyUpon all the inhabitants of the earth—
15 He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works.
15 He formed the hearts of them all; he understands everything they do.
15 He who fashions the hearts of them all,Who considers and understands all that they do.
16 There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.
16 A king is not saved by a large army; a mighty soldier is not delivered by his great strength.
16 The king is not saved by the great size of his army;A warrior is not rescued by his great strength.
17 An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.
17 It is vain to trust in a horse for deliverance, even with its great strength, it cannot deliver.
17 A horse is a false hope for victory;Nor does it deliver anyone by its great strength.
18 Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy;
18 Indeed, the LORD watches those who fear him; those who trust in his gracious love
18 Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon those who fear Him [and worship Him with awe-inspired reverence and obedience],On those who hope [confidently] in His compassion and lovingkindness,
19 To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.
19 to deliver them from death; to keep them alive in times of famine.
19 To rescue their lives from deathAnd keep them alive in famine.
20 Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield.
20 We wait on the LORD; he is our help and our shield.
20 We wait [expectantly] for the Lord;He is our help and our shield.
21 For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.
21 Indeed, our heart will rejoice in him, because we have placed our trust in his holy name.
21 For in Him our heart rejoices,Because we trust [lean on, rely on, and are confident] in His holy name.
22 Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.
22 LORD, may your gracious love be upon us, even as we hope in you. By David, when he pretended to be insane before Abimelech, who drove him away. So David left.
