God Our Refuge

1 God - for us, is a refuge and strength, A help in distresses, soon found.

1 {To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, A Song upon Alamoth.} God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

1 God is our refuge and strength, a great help in times of distress.

2 For this cause, will we not fear, Though the earth showeth change, Or the mountains slip into the heart of the seas:

2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

2 Therefore we will (D)not fear, though (E)the earth should changeAnd though (F)the mountains slip into the heart of the (d)sea;

2 Therefore we will not be afraid,though the earth tremblesand the mountains toppleinto the depths of the seas,(C)

2 Therefore we will not be frightened when the earth roars, when the mountains shake in the depths of the seas,

3 The waters thereof roar and foam, The mountains tremble with the swelling thereof Selah.

3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

3 Though its (G)waters roar and foam,Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. (e)Selah.

4 A river! whose channels, shall gladden the city of God, The Most High, hath hallowed his habitation.

4 There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.

4 There is a river—its streams delight the city of God,the holy dwelling place of the Most High.(E)

4 Look! There is a river whose streams make the city of God rejoice, even the Holy Place of the Most High.

5 God, is in the midst of her, she shall not be shaken, God will help her, by the turnings of the morning.

5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.

5 God is (K)in the midst of her, she will not be moved;God will (L)help her (f)when morning dawns.

5 God is within her; she will not be toppled.God will help her when the morning dawns.(F)

5 Since God is in her midst, she will not be shaken. God will help her at the break of dawn.

6 Nations have roared, Kingdoms have tottered, He hath uttered his voice, Earth melteth.

6 The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.

6 The (g)nations (M)made an uproar, the kingdoms tottered;He (h)(N)raised His voice, the earth (O)melted.

6 Nations rage, kingdoms topple;the earth melts when He lifts His voice.(G)

6 The nations roared; the kingdoms were shaken. His voice boomed; the earth melts.

7 Yahweh of hosts, is with us, A high tower for us, is the God of Jacob. Selah.

7 The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

8 Come! view the doings of Yahweh, - Who hath set desolations in the earth;

8 Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth.

8 Come, (R)behold the works of the Lord,(i)Who has wrought (S)desolations in the earth.

8 Come, see the works of the Lord,who brings devastation on the earth.(I)

8 Come, observe the mighty works of the LORD, who causes desolation in the earth.

9 Causing wars to cease unto the end of the earth, - The bow, he shivereth, And breaketh in pieces the spear, war-chariots, burneth he up with fire.

9 He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.

9 He (T)makes wars to cease to the end of the earth;He (U)breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;He (V)burns the chariots with fire.

9 He makes wars cease throughout the earth.He shatters bows and cuts spears to pieces;He burns up the chariots.(b)(J)

9 He causes wars to cease all over the earth, he causes the bow to break, the spear to snap, the chariots to ignite and burn.

10 Let be! and know that, I, am God, I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.

10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

10 (j)Cease striving and (W)know that I am God;I will be (X)exalted among the (k)nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

10 “Stop your fighting—and know that I am God,exalted among the nations, exalted on the earth.”(K)

10 Be in awe and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted throughout the earth.
