Zion Exalted

1 Yahweh [is] great and very worthy of praise in the city of our God, in his {holy mountain}.

1 A Song; a Psalm of the sons of Korah.(A)Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised,In the (B)city of our God, His (C)holy mountain.

1 {A Song and Psalm for the sons of Korah.} Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.

1 Great is the LORD! For he is to be praised greatly, even in the city of our God, his holy mountain.

2 Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, [is] {Mount Zion}, {in the far north}, [the] city of [the] great king.

2 Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

2 Beautifully situated, the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion towards the north, the city of the great King.

3 God [is] in her citadels; he is known as a [high] stronghold.

3 God, in her palaces,Has made Himself known as a (G)stronghold.

3 God is known in her palaces for a refuge.

3 God is known as a strongholdin its citadels.(C)

3 Within her citadels God is known as a place of refuge.

4 For see, the kings assembled; they advanced together.

4 For, lo, the (H)kings assembled themselves,They passed by together.

4 For, lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together.

4 Look! The kings assembled;they advanced together.(D)

4 Behold, when the kings assembled together, when they traveled together,

5 {They themselves saw} [it], so they were astonished. They were terrified; they ran off.

5 They saw it, then they were amazed;They were (I)terrified, they (a)fled in alarm.

5 They saw it, and so they marvelled; they were troubled, and hasted away.

5 They looked and froze with fear;they fled in terror.(E)

5 they looked and were awestruck; they became afraid and ran away.

6 Trembling seized them there-- pain as of a woman in labor.

6 (b)Panic seized them there,Anguish, as of (J)a woman in childbirth.

6 Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail.

7 With an east wind you shatter the ships of Tarshish.

7 Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind.

7 as when an east wind destroyed the ships of Tarshish.

8 As we have heard, so we have seen in the city of Yahweh of hosts, in the city of our God. God will establish her forever. Selah

9 We have pondered your loyal love, O God, in the midst of your temple.

9 We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple.

9 God, within Your temple,we contemplate Your faithful love.(I)

9 God, we have meditated on your gracious love in the midst of your Temple.

10 As [is] your name, O God, so [is] your praise to [the] ends of [the] earth. Your right hand is full of righteousness.

10 As is Your (P)name, O God,So is Your (Q)praise to the ends of the earth;Your (R)right hand is full of righteousness.

10 According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.

10 Your name, God, like Your praise,reaches to the ends of the earth;(J)Your right hand is filled with justice.(K)

10 God, according to your name, so is your praise to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is filled with righteousness.

11 Let {Mount Zion} rejoice; let the daughters of Judah rejoice because of your judgments.

11 Let Mount (S)Zion be glad,Let the (T)daughters of Judah rejoiceBecause of Your judgments.

11 Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments.

11 Mount Zion is glad.The towns(a) of Judah rejoicebecause of Your judgments.(L)

11 Mount Zion will be glad; the towns of Judah will rejoice because of your judgments.

12 Walk about Zion and circle it; count her towers.

12 Walk about Zion and go around her;Count her (U)towers;

12 Walk about Zion, and go round about her: tell the towers thereof.

12 Go around Zion, encircle it;count its towers,

12 March around Zion; encircle her; count her towers.

13 {Consider well} her ramparts. Go through her citadels so that you can tell [the] next generation

13 Consider her (V)ramparts;Go through her palaces,That you may (W)tell it to the next generation.

13 Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation following.

14 that this [is] God, our God forever and ever. {He himself} will guide us until death.
