God Judges The Proud

1 Why do you take pride in wrongdoing, lifting yourself up against the upright man all the day?

1 {To the chief Musician, Maschil, A Psalm of David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said unto him, David is come to the house of Ahimelech.} Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endureth continually.

1 Why do you make evil the foundation of your boasting, mighty one? God's gracious love never ceases.

2 Purposing destruction, using deceit; your tongue is like a sharp blade.

2 Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp rasor, working deceitfully.

2 Your tongue devises (C)destruction,Like a (D)sharp razor, (E)O worker of deceit.

2 Like a sharpened razor,your tongue devises destruction,working treachery.(D)

2 Your tongue, like a sharp razor, devises wicked things and crafts treachery.

3 You have more love for evil than for good, for deceit than for works of righteousness. (Selah.)

3 Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.

3 You (F)love evil more than good,(G)Falsehood more than speaking what is right. (c)Selah.

4 Destruction is in all your words, O false tongue.

4 Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.

4 You love all words that devour,O (H)deceitful tongue.

4 You love any words that destroy,you treacherous tongue!(F)

4 You love all words that destroy, you deceitful tongue!

5 But God will put an end to you for ever; driving you out from your tent, uprooting you from the land of the living. (Selah.)

5 God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.

5 (d)But God will break you down forever;He will snatch you up and (I)tear you away from your tent,And (J)uproot you from the (K)land of the living. Selah.

5 This is why God will bring you down forever.He will take you, ripping you out of your tent;He will uproot you from the land of the living.(G)Selah

6 The upright will see it with fear, and will say, laughing at you: strong in his wealth.

6 The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him:

6 The righteous will fear when they see this, but then they will laugh at him, saying,

7 See, this is the man who did not make God his strength, but had faith in his goods and his property, and made himself

7 Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.

7 “Behold, the man who would not make God his refuge,But (N)trusted in the abundance of his richesAnd (O)was strong in (e)his evil desire.”

7 “Here is the manwho would not make God his refuge,but trusted in the abundance of his riches,taking refuge in his destructive behavior.”(a)(I)

7 "Look, here is a young man who refused to make God his strength; instead, he trusted in his great wealth and made his wickedness his strength.

8 But I am like a branching olive-tree in the house of God; I have put my faith in his mercy for ever and ever.

8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

8 But as for me, I am like a (P)green olive tree in the house of God;I (Q)trust in the lovingkindness of God forever and ever.

8 But I am like a flourishing olive treein the house of God;(J)I trust in God’s faithful love forever and ever.(K)

8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the gracious love of God forever and ever.

9 I will give you praise without end for what you have done; I will give honour to your name before your saints, for it is good.

9 I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.

9 I will (R)give You thanks forever, because You have done it,And I will wait on Your name, (S)for it is good, in the presence of Your godly ones.

9 I will praise You forever for what You have done.In the presence of Your faithful people,I will put my hope in Your name, for it is good.(L)
