Trust In God Alone

1 To the overseer, to Jeduthun: chanting to David. Surely my soul was silent to God: from him my salvation.

1 My soul rests quietly only when it looks to God; from him comes my deliverance.

2 Surely he my rock and my salvation, my height; I shall not be greatly moved.

2 He only is my (C)rock and my salvation,My (D)stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.

2 He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.

2 He alone is my rock and my salvation,(C)my stronghold; I will never be shaken.(D)

2 He alone is my rock, my deliverance, and my high tower; nothing will shake me.

3 How long will ye set upon a man? ye will kill all of you: as a wall inclining, a wall thrust down.

3 How long will you assail a man,That you may murder him, all of you,Like a (E)leaning wall, like a tottering fence?

3 How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence.

3 How long will you threaten a man?Will all of you attack(a)as if he were a leaning wallor a tottering stone fence?(E)

3 How long will you rage against someone? Would you attack him as if he were a leaning wall or a tottering fence?

4 Surely they counseled to thrust down his lifting up: they will delight in falsehood: with their mouth they will praise, and in their inward parts they will curse. Silence.

4 They have counseled only to thrust him down from his high position;They (F)delight in falsehood;They (G)bless with (b)their mouth,But inwardly they curse. (c)Selah.

9 Men of (N)low degree are only (O)vanity and men of rank are a (P)lie;In the (Q)balances they go up;They are together lighter than breath.

9 Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.

9 Men are only a vapor;exalted men, an illusion.Weighed in the scales, they go up;together they are less than a vapor.(L)

9 Human beings are a mere vapor, while people in high positions are not what they appear. When they are placed on the scales, they weigh nothing; even when weighed together, they are less than nothing.

10 Ye shall not trust in oppression, ye shall not become vain in plunder: if wealth shall increase ye shall not set the heart

10 (R)Do not trust in oppressionAnd do not (d)vainly hope in (S)robbery;If riches increase, (T)do not set your heart upon them.

10 Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

10 Place no trust in oppression,or false hope in robbery.If wealth increases,pay no attention to it.(b)(M)

10 Don't trust in oppression or put false hope in stealing; if you become wealthy, do not set your heart on it.

11 Once God spake; twice I heard this; that strength is to God.

11 (e)Once God has (U)spoken;(f)Twice I have heard this:That (V)power belongs to God;

11 God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.

11 God has spoken once;I have heard this twice:strength belongs to God,(N)

11 God spoke once, but I heard it twice, "Power belongs to God."

12 And to thee, O Jehovah, mercy: for thou wilt recompense to each according to his work.

12 And lovingkindness (W)is Yours, O Lord,For You (X)recompense a man according to his work.

12 Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work.

12 and faithful love belongs to You, Lord.For You repay each according to his works.(O)

12 Also to you, Lord, belongs gracious love, because you reward each person according to what he does. A Davidic Psalm, while he was in the Judean wilderness.
