Psalm 83

² See! Your enemies rage; those who hate you issue threats.

² For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.

² For behold, Your enemies ^(C)make an uproar,And ^(D)those who hate You have ^(a)(E)exalted themselves.

² See how Your enemies make an uproar;those who hate You have acted arrogantly.^(a)(C)

² For behold, Your enemies are in tumult,And those who hate You have raised their heads [in hatred of You].^(A)

⁴ They say, "Let us go and erase them as a nation so the name of Israel will not be remembered anymore."

⁴ They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.

⁴ They have said, “Come, and ^(H)let us wipe them out ^(d)as a nation,That the ^(I)name of Israel be remembered no more.”

⁴ They say, “Come, let us wipe them out as a nationso that Israel’s name will no longer be remembered.”^(E)

⁴ They have said, “Come, and let us wipe them out as a nation;Let the name of Israel be remembered no more.”

⁶ the tents of Edom, the Ishmaelites, Moab, the Hagrites,

⁶ The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;

⁸ Even Assyria joined them to strengthen the descendants of Lot. Interlude

¹⁰ They were destroyed at En-dor and became as dung on the ground.

¹⁰ Which perished at Endor: they became as dung for the earth.

¹² who said, "Let us possess the pastures of God."

¹² who said, “Let us seize God’s pastures for ourselves.”^(Q)

¹⁴ Like a fire burning a forest, and a flame setting mountains ablaze.

¹⁴ As the fire burneth a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire;

¹⁴ Like ^(AE)fire that burns the forestAnd like a flame that ^(AF)sets the mountains on fire,

¹⁴ As fire burns a forest,as a flame blazes through mountains,^(S)

¹⁴ Like fire consumes the forest,And like the flame sets the mountains on fire,

¹⁶ Fill their faces with shame until they seek your name, God.

¹⁶ Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O LORD.

^{16 (AH)}Fill their faces with dishonor,That they may seek Your name, O Lord.

¹⁶ Cover their faces with shameso that they will seek Your name Yahweh.^(U)
