1 How lovely are your dwelling places, LORD of the Heavenly Armies.

1 How lovely are Your dwelling places,O Lord of hosts!

2 My (B)soul longed and even yearned for the courts of the Lord;My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the (C)living God.

2 My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.

2 I long and yearnfor the courts of the Lord;my heart and flesh cry out for(a) the living God.(C)

2 I desire and long for the Temple courts of the LORD. My heart and body sing for joy to the living God.

2 My soul (my life, my inner self) longs for and greatly desires the courts of the Lord;My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God.

3 The bird also has found a house,And the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young,Even Your (D)altars, O Lord of hosts,(E)My King and my God.

3 Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God.

3 Even a sparrow finds a home,and a swallow, a nest for herselfwhere she places her young—near Your altars, Lord of Hosts,my King and my God.(D)

3 Even the sparrow found a house for herself and the swallow a nest to lay her young at your altar, LORD of the Heavenly Armies, my king and God.

3 The bird has found a house,And the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young—Even Your altars, O Lord of hosts,My King and my God.

4 How (F)blessed are those who dwell in Your house!They are (G)ever praising You. (b)Selah.

4 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.

4 How happy are those who reside in Your house,who praise You continually.(E)Selah

4 How happy are those who live in your Temple, for they can praise you continuously. Interlude

4 Blessed and greatly favored are those who dwell in Your house and Your presence;They will be singing Your praises all the day long. Selah.

5 How blessed is the man whose (H)strength is in You,In (c)whose heart are the (I)highways to Zion!

5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.

5 Happy are the people whose strength is in You,whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.(F)

5 How happy are those whose strength is in you, whose heart is on your path.

5 Blessed and greatly favored is the man whose strength is in You,In (a)whose heart are the highways to Zion.

6 Passing through the valley of (d)Baca they make it a (e)spring;The (J)early rain also covers it with blessings.

6 Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools.

6 As they pass through the Valley of Baca,(b)they make it a source of springwater;even the autumn rain will cover it with blessings.(c)(G)

6 They will pass through the Baca Valley where he will prepare a spring for them; even the early rain will cover it with blessings.

6 Passing through the Valley of Weeping ((b)Baca), they make it a place of springs;The early rain also covers it with blessings.

7 They (K)go from strength to strength,(f)Every one of them (L)appears before God in Zion.

7 They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God.

7 They will walk from strength to strength; each will appear before God in Zion.

7 They go from strength to strength [increasing in victorious power];Each of them appears before God in Zion.

8 O (M)Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer;Give ear, O (N)God of Jacob! Selah.

9 Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed.

9 God, look at our shield, and show favor to your anointed,

9 See our shield, O God,And look at the face of Your anointed [the king as Your representative].

10 For (Q)a day in Your courts is better than a thousand outside.I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my GodThan dwell in the tents of wickedness.

10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

10 Better a day in Your courtsthan a thousand anywhere else.I would rather be at the door of the house of my Godthan to live in the tents of wicked people.(L)

10 for a day in your Temple courts is better than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather stand at the entrance of God's house than live in the tent of wickedness.

10 For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand [anywhere else];I would rather stand [as a doorkeeper] at the threshold of the house of my GodThan to live [at ease] in the tents of wickedness.

11 For the Lord God is (R)a sun and (S)shield;The Lord gives grace and (T)glory;(U)No good thing does He withhold (g)from those who walk (h)uprightly.

11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield.(M)The Lord gives grace and glory;He does not withhold the goodfrom those who live with integrity.(N)

11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD grants grace and favor; the LORD will not withhold any good thing from those who walk blamelessly.

11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield;The Lord bestows grace and favor and honor;No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.

12 O Lord of hosts,How (V)blessed is the man who trusts in You!

12 O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.

12 Happy is the person who trusts in You,Lord of Hosts!(O)

12 LORD of Heavenly Armies, how happy are those who trust in you. To the Director: A Psalm by the descendants of Korah.
