The Scroll With Seven Seals And The Lamb

1 Then I saw in the right hand of God, who sat on His throne, a book with writing on the inside and on the back, and sealed with seven seals.

1 I saw (a)in the right hand of Him who (A)sat on the throne a (b)(B)book written inside and on the back, (C)sealed up with seven seals.

1 And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.

1 Then I saw in the right hand of the One seated on the throne a scroll with writing on the inside and on the back,(A) sealed with seven seals.

1 Then I saw in the right hand of the one who sits on the throne a scroll written on the inside and on the outside, sealed with seven seals.

2 And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, "Who deserves to break the seals on it and open the book?" [Note: This "book" was probably a rolled up scroll written on both sides, with wax seals keeping it from unrolling and its contents from being exposed].

2 And I saw a (D)strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the (c)book and to break its seals?”

2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?

2 I also saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?”

2 I also saw a powerful angel proclaiming with a loud voice, "Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?"

3 And no one in heaven, or on earth or under the earth was able to open the book or to look inside of it. [Note: "Under the earth" may refer to the spirit world].

3 And no one (E)in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the (d)book or to look into it.

3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.

3 But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or even to look in it.

3 No one in heaven, on earth, or under the earth could open the scroll or look inside it.

4 And I cried bitterly because no one was found who deserved to open the book or to look inside of it.

4 Then I began to weep greatly because no one was found worthy to open the (e)book or to look into it;

4 And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.

4 And I cried and cried because no one was found worthy to open(a) the scroll or even to look in it.

4 I began to cry bitterly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or look inside it.

5 Then one of the [twenty-four] elders said to me, "Do not cry; look, the Lion from the tribe of Judah, the Root of King David, has gained the victory, so He can break the seven seals on the book and open it."

5 and one of the elders *said to me, “Stop weeping; behold, the (F)Lion that is (G)from the tribe of Judah, the (H)Root of David, has overcome so as to open the (f)book and its seven seals.”

5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

5 Then one of the elders said to me, “Stop crying. Look! The Lion from the tribe of Judah,(B) the Root of David,(C) has been victorious(D) so that He may open the scroll and(b) its seven seals.”

5 "Stop crying," one of the elders told me. "Look! The Lion from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered. He can open the scroll and its seven seals."

6 Then I saw a Lamb, looking like it had been killed. He was standing in the center of the throne, surrounded by the four living beings and the [twenty-four] elders. He has seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God [i.e., the Holy Spirit. See 1:4], sent throughout the entire earth.

6 And I saw (g)between the throne (with the four living creatures) and (I)the elders a (J)Lamb standing, as if (K)slain, having seven (L)horns and (M)seven eyes, which are (N)the seven Spirits of God, sent out into all the earth.

6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

6 Then I saw One like a slaughtered lamb standing between(c) the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God(E) sent into all the earth.

6 Then I saw a lamb standing in the middle of the throne, the four living creatures, and the elders. He looked like he had been slaughtered. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent into all the earth.

7 And the Lamb came and took the book from the right hand of God, who sat on His throne.

7 And He came and took (O)the book out of the right hand of Him who (P)sat on the throne.

7 And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.

7 He came and took the scroll(d) out of the right hand of the One seated on the throne.

7 He went and took the scroll from the right hand of the one who sits on the throne.

The Lamb Is Worthy

8 And when He had taken the book, the four living beings and the twenty-four elders fell down in front of the Lamb [i.e., to worship Him]. Each one of them held [in his hands] a harp and a golden bowl full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints [See Psa. 141:2; Rev. 8:3-4].

8 When He had taken the (h)book, the (Q)four living creatures and the (R)twenty-four elders (S)fell down before the (T)Lamb, each one holding a (U)harp and (V)golden bowls full of incense, which are the (W)prayers of the (i)saints.

8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.

8 When He took the scroll, the four living creatures and the 24 elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and gold bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of the saints.

8 When the lamb had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders bowed down in front of him. Each held a harp and a gold bowl full of incense, the prayers of the saints.

9 And they sang a new song [which went like this]: "You deserve to take the book and break the seals on it, for you were killed and, with your blood, you purchased people for God from every tribe and language and race and nation,

9 And they *sang a (X)new song, saying, (Y)Worthy are You to take the (j)book and to break its seals; for You were (Z)slain, and (AA)purchased for God with Your blood men from (AB)every tribe and tongue and people and nation.

9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

9 And they sang a new song:(F)You are worthy to take the scrolland to open its seals, because You were slaughtered, and You redeemed(e) people(f)for God by Your bloodfrom every tribe and languageand people and nation.(G)

9 They sang a new song: "You are worthy to take the scroll and open its seals, because you were slaughtered. With your blood you purchased people for God from every tribe, language, people, and nation.

10 and you made them into a kingdom and a priesthood for [serving] our God, and they will rule on the earth."

10 “You have made them to be a (AC)kingdom and (AD)priests to our God; and they will (AE)reign upon the earth.”

10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

10 You made them a kingdom(g)and priests to our God,(H)and they will reign on the earth.

10 You made them a kingdom and priests for our God, and they will reign on the earth."

11 Then I looked, and heard the voice of many angels surrounding the throne and the living beings and elders. They numbered in the tens of thousands, and thousands and thousands [more]. [Note: The Greek says "myriads of myriads"].

11 Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels (AF)around the throne and the (AG)living creatures and the (AH)elders; and the number of them was (AI)myriads of myriads, and thousands of thousands,

11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;

11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels around the throne, and also of the living creatures and of the elders. Their number was countless thousands, plus thousands of thousands.

11 Then I looked, and I heard the voices of many angels, the living creatures, and the elders surrounding the throne. They numbered 10,000's times 10,000 and thousands times thousands.

12 They were saying in a loud voice [See Note at 4:8], "The Lamb, who was killed, deserves to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and splendor and praise."

12 saying with a loud voice,(AJ)Worthy is the (AK)Lamb that was (AL)slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.”

12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.

12 They said with a loud voice:The Lamb who was slaughtered is worthyto receive power and richesand wisdom and strengthand honor and glory and blessing!

12 They sang with a loud voice, "Worthy is the lamb who was slaughtered to receive power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and praise!"

13 And I heard every creature in heaven, on the earth, under the earth, on the ocean and everything in them, saying [See Note at 4:8], "May there be praise and honor and splendor and power forever and ever, to God who sits on His throne and to the Lamb."

13 And (AM)every created thing which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all things in them, I heard saying,“To Him who (AN)sits on the throne, and to the (AO)Lamb, (AP)be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever.”

13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

13 I heard every creature in heaven, on earth, under the earth, on the sea, and everything in them say:Blessing and honor and glory and dominionto the One seated on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!

13 I heard every creature in heaven, on earth, under the earth, and on the sea, and everything that is in them, saying, "To the one who sits on the throne and to the lamb be praise, honor, glory, and power forever and ever!"

14 And the four living beings said, "May it be so." And the elders fell down and worshiped.

14 And the (AQ)four living creatures kept saying, “(AR)Amen.” And the (AS)elders (AT)fell down and worshiped.

14 And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.

14 The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped.

14 Then the four living creatures said, "Amen!", and the elders bowed down and worshipped.
