'Tis true, you bear the name of a Jew, you depend upon the law, and boast of your worship:
much every way: chiefly, because they were intrusted with the oracles of God.
who are Israelites; who had the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the law, the form of divine worship, and the promises;
and he said to him, why do you stile me good? there is but one that is good, that is God. but if you would enter into life, keep the commandments.
to whom he answered, how does the law run in that case? what do you find?
the Pharisee in a standing posture pray'd thus by himself, O God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men, a robber, a cheat, an adulterer, or like that Publican.
don't imagine that I shall accuse you to my father: even Moses himself in whom you confide, will be your accuser.
then they reviled him, and said, thou art his disciple; but we are Moses disciples.
Don't delusively content your selves with being of the audience, but put what you hear in practice:
you triumph in your vain projects, but your presumption is vicious.
take care therefore, that the light which is in thee do not become darkness.
