2 Wail, O juniper, for [the] cedar has fallen, for [the] magnificent [trees] are ruined! Wail, oaks of Bashan, for the impenetrable forest has come down!
2 Wail, O (a)cypress, for the cedar has fallen,Because the glorious trees have been destroyed;Wail, O oaks of Bashan,For the (b)impenetrable forest has come down.
2 Howl, fir tree; for the cedar is fallen; because the mighty are spoiled: howl, O ye oaks of Bashan; for the forest of the vintage is come down.
2 Wail, cypress,(B) for the cedar has fallen;the glorious trees are destroyed!Wail, oaks of Bashan,(C)for the stately forest has fallen!
2 Wail, cypress tree, for the cedar has fallen while the stately trees are destroyed. Wail, oak trees of Bashan, for the old growth forest has been cut down.
3 [Listen to] the wailing of the shepherds, for their splendor is ruined! [Listen to] the roar of [the] young lions, for the thickets of the Jordan are ruined!
3 There is a sound of the shepherds’ (C)wail,For their glory is ruined;There is a (D)sound of the young lions’ roar,For the (c)pride of the Jordan is ruined.
3 There is a voice of the howling of the shepherds; for their glory is spoiled: a voice of the roaring of young lions; for the pride of Jordan is spoiled.
3 Listen to the wail(D) of the shepherds,for their glory is destroyed.Listen to the roar of young lions,(E)for the thickets of the Jordan(F) are(a) destroyed.
3 Hear the wailing of the shepherds, for the magnificence of the forest is ruined! Hear the roar of the lions, for the Jordan's arrogance is ruined!
5 The ones buying them kill them and go unpunished, and the ones selling them say, 'Blessed [be] Yahweh, for I have become rich.' Their own shepherds have no compassion for them.
5 Those who buy them slay them and (d)go (F)unpunished, and each of those who sell them says, ‘Blessed be the Lord, for (G)I have become rich!’ And their (H)own shepherds have no pity on them.
5 Whose possessors slay them, and hold themselves not guilty: and they that sell them say, Blessed be the LORD; for I am rich: and their own shepherds pity them not.
5 Those who buy them slaughter them but are not punished.(G) Those who sell them say: Praise the Lord because I have become rich! Even their own shepherds have no compassion for them.
5 Their buyers slaughter them without being punished, continuing to sell them as they say, "Bless the LORD!' and, "I'm rich!' Meanwhile, their shepherds show them no compassion.
6 For I will no longer have compassion on the inhabitants of the land," {declares} Yahweh. "Look, I [am] going to cause humankind to fall, each into the hand of his neighbor, and into the hand of his king; and they will devastate the land, and I will not deliver [anyone] from their hand."
6 For I will (I)no longer have pity on the inhabitants of the land,” declares the Lord; “but behold, I will (J)cause the men to (e)fall, each into another’s (f)power and into the (g)power of his king; and they will strike the land, and I will (K)not deliver them from their (h)power.”
6 For I will no more pity the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD: but, lo, I will deliver the men every one into his neighbour's hand, and into the hand of his king: and they shall smite the land, and out of their hand I will not deliver them.
6 Indeed, I will no longer have compassion on the inhabitants of the land”—this is the Lord’s declaration. “Instead, I will turn everyone over to his neighbor and his king. They will devastate the land, and I will not deliver it from them.”(H)
6 Therefore I will no longer show compassion upon those who live in the land," declares the LORD. "Look! I will deliver every single person into the control of his neighbor and into the control of the king. Even though they assault the land, I will not deliver it from their control."
7 And I shepherded the flock [doomed] to slaughter, even the afflicted of the flock. I took two staffs, one I called Kindness, and the other I called Unity, and I shepherded the flock.
7 So I (L)pastured the flock doomed to slaughter, (i)hence the (M)afflicted of the flock. And I took for myself two (N)staffs: the one I called (j)(O)Favor and the other I called (k)(P)Union; so I pastured the flock.
7 And I will feed the flock of slaughter, even you, O poor of the flock. And I took unto me two staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock.
7 So I shepherded the flock intended for slaughter, the afflicted of the flock.(b) I took two staffs, calling one Favor(I) and the other Union, and I shepherded the flock.
7 So I became shepherd of the flock marked for slaughter, paying attention to the oppressed of the flock. I took two staffs naming one "Pleasant" and the other one "Union" - and then I pastured the flock.
8 And I got rid of three shepherds in one month, for {I grew impatient} with them, and {they also became tired of me}.
8 Then I annihilated the three shepherds in (Q)one month, for my soul was impatient with them, and their soul also (l)was weary of me.
8 Three shepherds also I cut off in one month; and my soul lothed them, and their soul also abhorred me.
8 In one month I got rid of three shepherds. I became impatient with them, and they also detested me.
8 In a single month I got rid of three shepherds because I grew tired of them, and they despised me.
9 So I said, "I will not shepherd you! The [one] dying will die, and the [one] to be destroyed will be destroyed. And the [ones] remaining, let them devour {the flesh of each other}."
9 Then I said, “I will not pasture you. What is to (R)die, (m)let it die, and what is to be annihilated, (n)let it be annihilated; and (o)let those who are left eat one another’s flesh.”
9 Then said I, I will not feed you: that that dieth, let it die; and that that is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let the rest eat every one the flesh of another.
9 Then I said, “I will no longer shepherd you. Let what is dying die, and let what is going astray go astray; let the rest devour each other’s flesh.”
9 So I said, "I will no longer be your shepherd. Let those who are about to die perish, and let what is about to be destroyed be destroyed. As for the survivors, let them devour each other."
10 And I took my staff Kindness and broke it, to break my covenant that I {had made} with all the peoples.
10 I took my staff (p)(S)Favor and cut it in pieces, to (q)(T)break my covenant which I had made with all the peoples.
10 And I took my staff, even Beauty, and cut it asunder, that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the people.
10 Next I took my staff called Favor and cut it in two, annulling the covenant I had made with all the peoples.
10 Then I took the staff that I had named "Pleasant" and broke it, showing I was breaking my covenant that I had made with all of the people.
11 And it was broken on that day. Then the afflicted of the flock, the [ones who were] watching me, knew that it [was] the word of Yahweh.
11 So it was (r)broken on that day, and (s)thus the (U)afflicted of the flock who were watching me realized that it was the word of the Lord.
11 And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the LORD.
11 It was annulled on that day, and so the afflicted of the flock(c) who were watching me knew that it was the word of the Lord.
11 It was broken at that time so the oppressed of the flock who were observing me would know that it had been a message from the LORD.
12 And I said to them, "If {it seems right to you}, give [me] my wages, but if not, {keep them}." And they weighed out my wages, thirty silver [shekels].
12 I said to them, “If it is good in your sight, give me my (V)wages; but if not, (t)never mind!” So they weighed out (W)thirty shekels of silver as my wages.
12 And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver.
12 Then I said to them, “If it seems right to you, give me my wages; but if not, keep them.” So they weighed my wages, 30 pieces of silver.(J)
12 I told them, "If it's alright with you, pay me what I've earned. But if it isn't, don't." So they paid out what I had earned 30 pieces of silver.
13 And Yahweh said to me, "Throw it to the potter," {this noble price} [at] which I was valued by them!" So I took the thirty silver [shekels] and I threw them to the potter [in] the house of Yahweh.
13 Then the Lord said to me, “Throw it to the (X)potter, that magnificent price at which I was valued by them.” So I took the thirty shekels of silver and threw them to the potter in the house of the Lord.
13 And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD.
13 “Throw it to the potter,”(d) the Lord said to me—this magnificent price I was valued by them. So I took the 30 pieces of silver and threw it into the house of the Lord, to the potter.(e)(K)
13 Then the LORD told me, "Throw the money into the treasury that magnificent value they placed on me!"
14 Then I broke my second staff Unity to break the family ties between Judah and Israel.
14 Then I cut in pieces my second staff (u)(Y)Union, to (Z)break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.
14 Then I cut asunder mine other staff, even Bands, that I might break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.
14 Then I cut in two my second staff, Union, annulling the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.
14 So I took the 30 shekels of silver and threw them into the treasury of the Temple of the LORD. Then I broke my second staff the one I had named "Union" - breaking the union between the house of Judah and the house of Israel.
15 And Yahweh said to me, "Take again the implements of a foolish shepherd.
15 And the LORD said unto me, Take unto thee yet the instruments of a foolish shepherd.
15 The Lord also said to me: “Take the equipment of a foolish shepherd.
15 The LORD told me, "Pick up the tools of a worthless shepherd again,
16 For look, I [am] raising up a shepherd in the land who will not attend to the [ones that are] perishing; he will not seek the young man, he will not heal the [ones that are] crushed and he will not sustain the healthy [ones]; he will devour the flesh of the {fattened ones} and tear apart [even] their hoofs.
16 For behold, I am going to raise up a shepherd in the land who will (AB)not care for the perishing, seek the scattered, heal the broken, or sustain the one standing, but will (AC)devour the flesh of the fat sheep and tear off their hoofs.
16 For, lo, I will raise up a shepherd in the land, which shall not visit those that be cut off, neither shall seek the young one, nor heal that that is broken, nor feed that that standeth still: but he shall eat the flesh of the fat, and tear their claws in pieces.
16 I am about to raise up a shepherd in the land who will not care for those who are going astray, and he will not seek the lost(f) or heal the broken. He will not sustain the healthy,(g) but he will devour the flesh of the fat sheep(L) and tear off their hooves.
16 for I am now raising up a shepherd in the land who will neither search for the lost, nor care for the young, nor fix the broken, nor sustain the healthy. Instead, he will devour the meat of the best of the sheep, tearing off their hoofs."
17 "Woe, my worthless shepherd who deserts the flock! [May] a sword [fall] on his arm and on {his right eye}! May his arm wither completely and {his right eye} be utterly blinded!"
17 “(AD)Woe to the worthless shepherdWho leaves the flock!A (AE)sword will be on his armAnd on his right eye!His (AF)arm will be totally witheredAnd his right eye will be (w)blind.”
17 Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.
17 Woe to the worthless shepherdwho deserts the flock!(M)May a sword strike(h) his armand his right eye!May his arm wither awayand his right eye go completely blind!”
17 "Woe to the worthless shepherd, who deserts the flock! May the sword strike his arm and his right eye. May his arm wither and his right eye be completely blind."
