שָׁל֗וֹשׁ

לְכ֙וֹרֶשׁ֙

מֶ֣לֶךְ

me·leḵ

פָּרַ֔ס

pā·ras,

דָּבָר֙

dā·ḇār

נִגְלָ֣ה

niḡ·lāh

､ לְדָֽנִיֵּ֔אל

lə·ḏā·nî·yêl,

to Daniel ､

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

נִקְרָ֥א

niq·rā

שְׁמ֖וֹ

šə·mōw

– בֵּלְטְשַׁאצַּ֑ר

bê·lə·ṭə·šaṣ·ṣar;

Belteshazzar –

､ וֶאֱמֶ֤ת

we·’ĕ·meṯ

and [was] true ､

הַדָּבָר֙

had·dā·ḇār

וְצָבָ֣א

wə·ṣā·ḇā

but the appointed time

– גָד֔וֹל

ḡā·ḏō·wl,

[was] long –

וּבִין֙

ū·ḇîn

and he understood

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ הַדָּבָ֔ר

had·dā·ḇār,

the message ､

וּבִ֥ינָה

ū·ḇî·nāh

and understanding

ל֖וֹ

lōw

. בַּמַּרְאֶֽה׃

bam·mar·’eh.

of the vision .

בַּיָּמִ֖ים

bay·yā·mîm

הָהֵ֑ם

hā·hêm;

אֲנִ֤י

’ă·nî

דָֽנִיֵּאל֙

ḏā·nî·yêl

הָיִ֣יתִי

hā·yî·ṯî

מִתְאַבֵּ֔ל

miṯ·’ab·bêl,

שְׁלֹשָׁ֥ה

šə·lō·šāh

שָׁבֻעִ֖ים

šā·ḇu·‘îm

. יָמִֽים׃

yā·mîm.

､ לֶ֣חֶם

le·ḥem

Food ､

חֲמֻד֞וֹת

ḥă·mu·ḏō·wṯ

לֹ֣א

אָכַ֗לְתִּי

’ā·ḵal·tî,

וּבָשָׂ֥ר

ū·ḇā·śār

and meat

וָיַ֛יִן

wā·ya·yin

לֹא־

lō-

בָ֥א

ḇā

אֶל־

’el-

､ פִּ֖י

pî

my mouth ､

וְס֣וֹךְ

wə·sō·wḵ

and at all

לֹא־

lō-

סָ֑כְתִּי

sā·ḵə·tî;

did I anoint myself

עַד־

‘aḏ-

. מְלֹ֕את

mə·lōṯ

were fulfilled .

שְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת

šə·lō·šeṯ

שָׁבֻעִ֖ים

šā·ḇu·‘îm

. יָמִֽים׃

yā·mîm.

And on the day

עֶשְׂרִ֥ים

וְאַרְבָּעָ֖ה

wə·’ar·bā·‘āh

and four

､ לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ

la·ḥō·ḏeš

of month ､

הָרִאשׁ֑וֹן

hā·ri·šō·wn;

וַאֲנִ֗י

wa·’ă·nî,

and as I

הָיִ֛יתִי

hā·yî·ṯî

עַ֣ל

‘al

by

יַ֧ד

yaḏ

the side

､ הַנָּהָ֛ר

han·nā·hār

of the river ､

הַגָּד֖וֹל

hag·gā·ḏō·wl

ה֥וּא

hū

it [is]

– חִדָּֽקֶל׃

ḥid·dā·qel.

the Tigris –

וָאֶשָּׂ֤א

wā·’eś·śā

and I lifted

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ עֵינַי֙

‘ê·nay

my eyes ､

､ וָאֵ֔רֶא

wā·’ê·re,

and looked ､

וְהִנֵּ֥ה

wə·hin·nêh

אִישׁ־

’îš-

אֶחָ֖ד

’e·ḥāḏ

a

לָב֣וּשׁ

lā·ḇūš

､ בַּדִּ֑ים

bad·dîm;

in linen ､

וּמָתְנָ֥יו

ū·mā·ṯə·nāw

and whose waist

חֲגֻרִ֖ים

ḥă·ḡu·rîm

בְּכֶ֥תֶם

bə·ḵe·ṯem

with gold

. אוּפָֽז׃

’ū·p̄āz.

of Uphaz .

וּגְוִיָּת֣וֹ

ū·ḡə·wî·yā·ṯōw

And His body [was]

､ כְתַרְשִׁ֗ישׁ

ḵə·ṯar·šîš,

וּפָנָ֞יו

ū·p̄ā·nāw

כְּמַרְאֵ֤ה

kə·mar·’êh

like the appearance

､ בָרָק֙

ḇā·rāq

of lightning ､

וְעֵינָיו֙

wə·‘ê·nāw

כְּלַפִּ֣ידֵי

kə·lap·pî·ḏê

､ אֵ֔שׁ

’êš,

of fire ､

וּזְרֹֽעֹתָיו֙

ū·zə·rō·‘ō·ṯāw

וּמַרְגְּלֹתָ֔יו

ū·mar·gə·lō·ṯāw,

and feet

כְּעֵ֖ין

kə·‘ên

､ נְחֹ֣שֶׁת

nə·ḥō·šeṯ

קָלָ֑ל

qā·lāl;

וְק֥וֹל

wə·qō·wl

and the sound

דְּבָרָ֖יו

də·ḇā·rāw

כְּק֥וֹל

kə·qō·wl

. הָמֽוֹן׃

hā·mō·wn.

of a multitude .

וְרָאִיתִי֩

wə·rā·’î·ṯî

And saw

אֲנִ֨י

’ă·nî

I

דָנִיֵּ֤אל

ḏā·nî·yêl

לְבַדִּי֙

lə·ḇad·dî

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ הַמַּרְאָ֔ה

ham·mar·’āh,

the vision ､

וְהָאֲנָשִׁים֙

wə·hā·’ă·nā·šîm

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

הָי֣וּ

hā·yū

עִמִּ֔י

‘im·mî,

with me

לֹ֥א

lō

not

רָא֖וּ

rā·’ū

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

– הַמַּרְאָ֑ה

ham·mar·’āh;

the vision –

אֲבָ֗ל

’ă·ḇāl,

but

חֲרָדָ֤ה

ḥă·rā·ḏāh

גְדֹלָה֙

ḡə·ḏō·lāh

נָפְלָ֣ה

nā·p̄ə·lāh

עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם

‘ă·lê·hem,

וַֽיִּבְרְח֖וּ

way·yiḇ·rə·ḥū

so that they fled

. בְּהֵחָבֵֽא׃

bə·hê·ḥā·ḇê.

to hide themselves .

וַאֲנִי֙

wa·’ă·nî

נִשְׁאַ֣רְתִּי

niš·’ar·tî

､ לְבַדִּ֔י

lə·ḇad·dî,

וָֽאֶרְאֶ֗ה

wā·’er·’eh,

and when I saw

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ הַמַּרְאָ֤ה

ham·mar·’āh

הַגְּדֹלָה֙

hag·gə·ḏō·lāh

הַזֹּ֔את

haz·zōṯ,

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

and no

נִשְׁאַר־

niš·’ar-

בִּ֖י

bî

in me

כֹּ֑ח

kōḥ;

וְהוֹדִ֗י

wə·hō·w·ḏî,

נֶהְפַּ֤ךְ

neh·paḵ

עָלַי֙

‘ā·lay

in me

､ לְמַשְׁחִ֔ית

lə·maš·ḥîṯ,

to frailty ､

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

and no

עָצַ֖רְתִּי

‘ā·ṣar·tî

. כֹּֽחַ׃

kō·aḥ.

וָאֶשְׁמַ֖ע

wā·’eš·ma‘

And yet I heard

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

ק֣וֹל

qō·wl

– דְּבָרָ֑יו

də·ḇā·rāw;

of his words –

וּכְשָׁמְעִי֙

ū·ḵə·šā·mə·‘î

and while I heard

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

ק֣וֹל

qō·wl

､ דְּבָרָ֔יו

də·ḇā·rāw,

of his words ､

וַאֲנִ֗י

wa·’ă·nî,

and I

הָיִ֛יתִי

hā·yî·ṯî

נִרְדָּ֥ם

nir·dām

in a deep sleep

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ פָּנַ֖י

pā·nay

my face ､

וּפָנַ֥י

ū·p̄ā·nay

and with my face

. אָֽרְצָה׃

’ā·rə·ṣāh.

to the ground .

and which made me tremble

עַל־

on

בִּרְכַּ֖י

bir·kay

וְכַפּ֥וֹת

and [on] the palms

. יָדָֽי׃

yā·ḏāy.

of my hands .

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

And he said

אֵלַ֡י

’ê·lay

to me

､ דָּנִיֵּ֣אל

dā·nî·yêl

אִישׁ־

’îš-

､ חֲ֠מֻדוֹת

ḥă·mu·ḏō·wṯ

greatly beloved ､

הָבֵ֨ן

hā·ḇên

בַּדְּבָרִ֜ים

bad·də·ḇā·rîm

אֲשֶׁר֩

’ă·šer

אָנֹכִ֨י

’ā·nō·ḵî

I

דֹבֵ֤ר

ḏō·ḇêr

אֵלֶ֙יךָ֙

’ê·le·ḵā

to you

וַעֲמֹ֣ד

wa·‘ă·mōḏ

､ עַל־

‘al-

to ､

עָמְדֶ֔ךָ

‘ā·mə·ḏe·ḵā,

כִּ֥י

kî

עַתָּ֖ה

‘at·tāh

. שֻׁלַּ֣חְתִּי

šul·laḥ·tî

I have been sent .

אֵלֶ֑יךָ

’ê·le·ḵā;

To you

וּבְדַבְּר֥וֹ

ū·ḇə·ḏab·bə·rōw

and while he was speaking

עִמִּ֛י

‘im·mî

to me

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הַדָּבָ֥ר

had·dā·ḇār

הַזֶּ֖ה

haz·zeh

עָמַ֥דְתִּי

‘ā·maḏ·tî

. מַרְעִֽיד׃

mar·‘îḏ.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And he said

אֵלַי֮

’ê·lay

to me

､ אַל־

’al-

not ､

תִּירָ֣א

tî·rā

､ דָנִיֵּאל֒

ḏā·nî·yêl

כִּ֣י ׀

kî

מִן־

min-

הַיּ֣וֹם

hay·yō·wm

the day

הָרִאשׁ֗וֹן

hā·ri·šō·wn,

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

נָתַ֧תָּ

nā·ṯa·tā

אֶֽת־

’eṯ-

-

לִבְּךָ֛

lib·bə·ḵā

､ לְהָבִ֧ין

lə·hā·ḇîn

to understand ､

וּלְהִתְעַנּ֛וֹת

ū·lə·hiṯ·‘an·nō·wṯ

and to humble yourself

לִפְנֵ֥י

lip̄·nê

､ אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ

’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā

､ נִשְׁמְע֣וּ

niš·mə·‘ū

דְבָרֶ֑יךָ

ḏə·ḇā·re·ḵā;

וַאֲנִי־

wa·’ă·nî-

and I

בָ֖אתִי

ḇā·ṯî

. בִּדְבָרֶֽיךָ׃

biḏ·ḇā·re·ḵā.

because of your words .

וְשַׂ֣ר ׀

wə·śar

But the prince

מַלְכ֣וּת

mal·ḵūṯ

of the kingdom

פָּרַ֗ס

pā·ras,

עֹמֵ֤ד

‘ō·mêḏ

לְנֶגְדִּי֙

lə·neḡ·dî

me

עֶשְׂרִ֣ים

‘eś·rîm

וְאֶחָ֣ד

wə·’e·ḥāḏ

and one

– י֔וֹם

yō·wm,

days –

､ וְהִנֵּ֣ה

wə·hin·nêh

and behold ､

､ מִֽיכָאֵ֗ל

mî·ḵā·’êl,

אַחַ֛ד

’a·ḥaḏ

､ הַשָּׂרִ֥ים

haś·śā·rîm

of the princes ､

הָרִאשֹׁנִ֖ים

hā·ri·šō·nîm

בָּ֣א

bā

לְעָזְרֵ֑נִי

lə·‘ā·zə·rê·nî;

to help me

וַאֲנִי֙

wa·’ă·nî

נוֹתַ֣רְתִּי

nō·w·ṯar·tî

had been left alone

שָׁ֔ם

šām,

אֵ֖צֶל

’ê·ṣel

with

מַלְכֵ֥י

mal·ḵê

. פָרָֽס׃

p̄ā·rās.

וּבָ֙אתִי֙

ū·ḇā·ṯî

Now I have come

לַהֲבִ֣ינְךָ֔

la·hă·ḇî·nə·ḵā,

to make you understand

אֵ֛ת

’êṯ

-

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

יִקְרָ֥ה

yiq·rāh

לְעַמְּךָ֖

lə·‘am·mə·ḵā

בְּאַחֲרִ֣ית

bə·’a·ḥă·rîṯ

in the latter

､ הַיָּמִ֑ים

hay·yā·mîm;

days ､

כִּי־

kî-

ע֥וֹד

‘ō·wḏ

חָז֖וֹן

ḥā·zō·wn

the vision [refers]

. לַיָּמִֽים׃

lay·yā·mîm.

to [many] days [to come] .

וּבְדַבְּר֣וֹ

ū·ḇə·ḏab·bə·rōw

And when he had spoken

עִמִּ֔י

‘im·mî,

to me

כַּדְּבָרִ֖ים

kad·də·ḇā·rîm

הָאֵ֑לֶּה

hā·’êl·leh;

נָתַ֧תִּי

nā·ṯat·tî

פָנַ֛י

p̄ā·nay

､ אַ֖רְצָה

’ar·ṣāh

toward the ground ､

. וְנֶאֱלָֽמְתִּי׃

wə·ne·’ĕ·lā·mə·tî.

and became speechless .

､ וְהִנֵּ֗ה

wə·hin·nêh,

And suddenly ､

כִּדְמוּת֙

kiḏ·mūṯ

[one] having the likeness

בְּנֵ֣י

bə·nê

of the sons

אָדָ֔ם

’ā·ḏām,

of men

נֹגֵ֖עַ

nō·ḡê·a‘

עַל־

‘al-

on

– שְׂפָתָ֑י

śə·p̄ā·ṯāy;

my lips –

וָאֶפְתַּח־

wā·’ep̄·taḥ-

､ פִּ֗י

pî,

my mouth ､

､ וָאֲדַבְּרָה֙

wā·’ă·ḏab·bə·rāh

and spoke ､

וָאֹֽמְרָה֙

wā·’ō·mə·rāh

אֶל־

’el-

to

הָעֹמֵ֣ד

hā·‘ō·mêḏ

לְנֶגְדִּ֔י

lə·neḡ·dî,

､ אֲדֹנִ֗י

’ă·ḏō·nî,

My lord ､

בַּמַּרְאָה֙

bam·mar·’āh

because of the vision

נֶהֶפְכ֤וּ

ne·hep̄·ḵū

have overwhelmed

צִירַי֙

ṣî·ray

עָלַ֔י

‘ā·lay,

me

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

and no

עָצַ֖רְתִּי

‘ā·ṣar·tî

I have retained

. כֹּֽחַ׃

kō·aḥ.

וְהֵ֣יךְ

wə·hêḵ

יוּכַ֗ל

yū·ḵal,

עֶ֤בֶד

‘e·ḇeḏ

אֲדֹנִי֙

’ă·ḏō·nî

of my lord

זֶ֔ה

zeh,

לְדַבֵּ֖ר

lə·ḏab·bêr

עִם־

‘im-

with

؟ אֲדֹ֣נִי

’ă·ḏō·nî

my lord ؟

זֶ֑ה

zeh;

､ וַאֲנִ֤י

wa·’ă·nî

and [As for] me ､

מֵעַ֙תָּה֙

mê·‘at·tāh

לֹֽא־

lō-

no

יַעֲמָד־

ya·‘ă·māḏ-

בִּ֣י

bî

in me

כֹ֔חַ

ḵō·aḥ,

וּנְשָׁמָ֖ה

ū·nə·šā·māh

לֹ֥א

lō

נִשְׁאֲרָה־

niš·’ă·rāh-

. בִֽי׃

ḇî.

in me .

וַיֹּ֧סֶף

way·yō·sep̄

וַיִּגַּע־

way·yig·ga‘-

בִּ֛י

bî

me

כְּמַרְאֵ֥ה

kə·mar·’êh

[the one] having the likeness

､ אָדָ֖ם

’ā·ḏām

of a man ､

. וַֽיְחַזְּקֵֽנִי׃

way·ḥaz·zə·qê·nî.

and strengthened me .

､ וַיֹּ֜אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And he said ､

– אַל־

’al-

not –

תִּירָ֧א

tî·rā

אִישׁ־

’îš-

､ חֲמֻד֛וֹת

ḥă·mu·ḏō·wṯ

greatly beloved ､

שָׁל֥וֹם

šā·lō·wm

Peace [be]

לָ֖ךְ

lāḵ

to you

､ חֲזַ֣ק

ḥă·zaq

be strong ､

. וַחֲזָ֑ק

wa·ḥă·zāq;

and yes be strong .

וּֽבְדַבְּר֤וֹ‪‬

ū·ḵə·ḏab·bə·rōw

So when he spoke

עִמִּי֙

‘im·mî

to me

､ הִתְחַזַּ֔קְתִּי

hiṯ·ḥaz·zaq·tî,

I was strengthened ､

､ וָאֹֽמְרָ֛ה

wā·’ō·mə·rāh

and said ､

– יְדַבֵּ֥ר

yə·ḏab·bêr

אֲדֹנִ֖י

’ă·ḏō·nî

כִּ֥י

kî

. חִזַּקְתָּֽנִי׃

ḥiz·zaq·tā·nî.

you have strengthened me .

וַיֹּ֗אמֶר

way·yō·mer,

And he said

הֲיָדַ֙עְתָּ֙

hă·yā·ḏa‘·tā

לָמָּה־

lām·māh-

בָּ֣אתִי

bā·ṯî

אֵלֶ֔יךָ

’ê·le·ḵā,

to you

וְעַתָּ֣ה

wə·‘at·tāh

אָשׁ֔וּב

’ā·šūḇ,

לְהִלָּחֵ֖ם

lə·hil·lā·ḥêm

עִם־

‘im-

with

שַׂ֣ר

śar

– פָּרָ֑ס

pā·rās;

of Persia –

וַאֲנִ֣י

wa·’ă·nî

and when I

､ יוֹצֵ֔א

yō·w·ṣê,

have gone forth ､

､ וְהִנֵּ֥ה

wə·hin·nêh

and indeed ､

שַׂר־

śar-

יָוָ֖ן

yā·wān

. בָּֽא׃

bā.

will come .

אֲבָל֙

’ă·ḇāl

But

אַגִּ֣יד

’ag·gîḏ

I will tell

לְךָ֔

lə·ḵā,

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הָרָשׁ֥וּם

hā·rā·šūm

בִּכְתָ֖ב

biḵ·ṯāḇ

in the Scripture

. אֱמֶ֑ת

’ĕ·meṯ;

of Truth .

וְאֵ֨ין

wə·’ên

And No

אֶחָ֜ד

’e·ḥāḏ

מִתְחַזֵּ֤ק

miṯ·ḥaz·zêq

עִמִּי֙

‘im·mî

me

עַל־

‘al-

､ אֵ֔לֶּה

’êl·leh,

כִּ֥י

kî

אִם־

’im-

מִיכָאֵ֖ל

mî·ḵā·’êl

. שַׂרְכֶֽם׃

śar·ḵem.
