חָז֞וֹן

נִרְאָ֤ה

אֵלַי֙
’ê·lay
to me
אֲנִ֣י

[to] me
､ דָנִיֵּ֔אל
ḏā·nî·yêl,
Daniel ､
אַחֲרֵ֛י
’a·ḥă·rê
הַנִּרְאָ֥ה
han·nir·’āh
אֵלַ֖י
’ê·lay
to me
. בַּתְּחִלָּֽה׃
bat·tə·ḥil·lāh.
the first time .

וָֽאֶרְאֶה֮
wā·’er·’eh
And I saw
– בֶּחָזוֹן֒
be·ḥā·zō·wn
in the vision –
､ וַיְהִי֙
way·hî
and it so happened ､
､ בִּרְאֹתִ֔י
bir·’ō·ṯî,
וַאֲנִי֙
wa·’ă·nî
that I [was]
בְּשׁוּשַׁ֣ן
bə·šū·šan
､ הַבִּירָ֔ה
hab·bî·rāh,
the citadel ､
אֲשֶׁ֖ר
’ă·šer
which [is]
– בְּעֵילָ֣ם
bə·‘ê·lām
in Elam –
הַמְּדִינָ֑ה
ham·mə·ḏî·nāh;
וָאֶרְאֶה֙
wā·’er·’eh
and I saw
､ בֶּֽחָז֔וֹן
be·ḥā·zō·wn,
in the vision ､
וַאֲנִ֥י
wa·’ă·nî
הָיִ֖יתִי
hā·yî·ṯî
עַל־
‘al-
by
אוּבַ֥ל
’ū·ḇal
the River
. אוּלָֽי׃
’ū·lāy.

וָאֶשָּׂ֤א
wā·’eś·śā
And I lifted
､ עֵינַי֙
‘ê·nay
my eyes ､
､ וָאֶרְאֶ֔ה
wā·’er·’eh,
and saw ､
､ וְהִנֵּ֣ה ׀
wə·hin·nêh
and there ､
אַ֣יִל
’a·yil
אֶחָ֗ד
’e·ḥāḏ,
a
עֹמֵ֛ד
‘ō·mêḏ
לִפְנֵ֥י
lip̄·nê
הָאֻבָ֖ל
hā·’u·ḇāl
the river
וְל֣וֹ
wə·lōw
– קְרָנָ֑יִם
qə·rā·nā·yim;
וְהַקְּרָנַ֣יִם
wə·haq·qə·rā·na·yim
and the two horns
– גְּבֹה֗וֹת
gə·ḇō·hō·wṯ,
[were] high –
וְהָאַחַת֙
wə·hā·’a·ḥaṯ
but one [was]
גְּבֹהָ֣ה
gə·ḇō·hāh
מִן־
min-
､ הַשֵּׁנִ֔ית
haš·šê·nîṯ,
the second ､
וְהַ֨גְּבֹהָ֔ה
wə·hag·gə·ḇō·hāh,
and the higher [one]
עֹלָ֖ה
‘ō·lāh
came up
. בָּאַחֲרֹנָֽה׃
bā·’a·ḥă·rō·nāh.

רָאִ֣יתִי
rā·’î·ṯî
I saw
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
הָאַ֡יִל
hā·’a·yil
the ram
מְנַגֵּחַ֩
mə·nag·gê·aḥ
､ יָ֨מָּה
yām·māh
､ וְצָפ֜וֹנָה
wə·ṣā·p̄ō·w·nāh
and northward ､
– וָנֶ֗גְבָּה
wā·neḡ·bāh,
and southward –
וְכָל־
wə·ḵāl
so that
חַיּוֹת֙
ḥay·yō·wṯ
לֹֽא־
lō-
no
יַֽעַמְד֣וּ
ya·‘am·ḏū
לְפָנָ֔יו
lə·p̄ā·nāw,
וְאֵ֥ין
wə·’ên
and [there was] none
מַצִּ֖יל
maṣ·ṣîl
– מִיָּד֑וֹ
mî·yā·ḏōw;
וְעָשָׂ֥ה
wə·‘ā·śāh
but he did
､ כִרְצֹנ֖וֹ
ḵir·ṣō·nōw
according to his will ､
. וְהִגְדִּֽיל׃
wə·hiḡ·dîl.

וַאֲנִ֣י ׀
wa·’ă·nî
And as I
הָיִ֣יתִי
hā·yî·ṯî
､ מֵבִ֗ין
mê·ḇîn,
､ וְהִנֵּ֤ה
wə·hin·nêh
and suddenly ､
צְפִיר־
ṣə·p̄îr-
הָֽעִזִּים֙
hā·‘iz·zîm
בָּ֤א
bā
מִן־
min-
הַֽמַּעֲרָב֙
ham·ma·‘ă·rāḇ
the west
עַל־
‘al-
פְּנֵ֣י
pə·nê
כָל־
ḵāl
of all
､ הָאָ֔רֶץ
hā·’ā·reṣ,
the earth ､
וְאֵ֥ין
wə·’ên
נוֹגֵ֖עַ
nō·w·ḡê·a‘
– בָּאָ֑רֶץ
bā·’ā·reṣ;
the ground –
וְהַ֨צָּפִ֔יר
wə·haṣ·ṣā·p̄îr,
and the goat [had]
קֶ֥רֶן
qe·ren
חָז֖וּת
ḥā·zūṯ
בֵּ֥ין
bên
. עֵינָֽיו׃
‘ê·nāw.

וַיָּבֹ֗א
way·yā·ḇō,
And he came
עַד־
‘aḏ-
to
הָאַ֙יִל֙
hā·’a·yil
the ram
בַּ֣עַל
ba·‘al
､ הַקְּרָנַ֔יִם
haq·qə·rā·na·yim,
אֲשֶׁ֣ר
’ă·šer
רָאִ֔יתִי
rā·’î·ṯî,
עֹמֵ֖ד
‘ō·mêḏ
לִפְנֵ֣י
lip̄·nê
､ הָאֻבָ֑ל
hā·’u·ḇāl;
the river ､
וַיָּ֥רָץ
way·yā·rāṣ
and at ran
אֵלָ֖יו
’ê·lāw
בַּחֲמַ֥ת
ba·ḥă·maṯ
with furious
. כֹּחֽוֹ׃
kō·ḥōw.

וּרְאִיתִ֞יו
ū·rə·’î·ṯîw
And I saw him
מַגִּ֣יעַ ׀
mag·gî·a‘
אֵ֣צֶל
’ê·ṣel
to
､ הָאַ֗יִל
hā·’a·yil,
the ram ､
וַיִּתְמַרְמַ֤ר
way·yiṯ·mar·mar
and he was moved with rage
אֵלָיו֙
’ê·lāw
וַיַּ֣ךְ
way·yaḵ
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
､ הָאַ֔יִל
hā·’a·yil,
the ram ､
וַיְשַׁבֵּר֙
way·šab·bêr
and broke
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
שְׁתֵּ֣י
šə·tê
､ קְרָנָ֔יו
qə·rā·nāw,
וְלֹא־
wə·lō-
and no
הָ֥יָה
hā·yāh
כֹ֛חַ
ḵō·aḥ
בָּאַ֖יִל
bā·’a·yil
in the ram
לַעֲמֹ֣ד
la·‘ă·mōḏ
לְפָנָ֑יו
lə·p̄ā·nāw;
וַיַּשְׁלִיכֵ֤הוּ
way·yaš·lî·ḵê·hū
but he cast him down
､ אַ֙רְצָה֙
’ar·ṣāh
to the ground ､
וַֽיִּרְמְסֵ֔הוּ
way·yir·mə·sê·hū,
וְלֹא־
wə·lō-
and no one
הָיָ֥ה
hā·yāh
מַצִּ֛יל
maṣ·ṣîl
לָאַ֖יִל
lā·’a·yil
the ram
. מִיָּדֽוֹ׃
mî·yā·ḏōw.

וּצְפִ֥יר
ū·ṣə·p̄îr
הָעִזִּ֖ים
hā·‘iz·zîm
– הִגְדִּ֣יל
hiḡ·dîl
grew –
עַד־
‘aḏ-
-
מְאֹ֑ד
mə·’ōḏ;
､ וּכְעָצְמ֗וֹ
ū·ḵə·‘ā·ṣə·mōw,
but when he became strong ､
– נִשְׁבְּרָה֙
niš·bə·rāh
הַקֶּ֣רֶן
haq·qe·ren
the horn
הַגְּדוֹלָ֔ה
hag·gə·ḏō·w·lāh,
וַֽתַּעֲלֶ֜נָה
wat·ta·‘ă·le·nāh
and came up
חָז֤וּת
ḥā·zūṯ
אַרְבַּע֙
’ar·ba‘
תַּחְתֶּ֔יהָ
taḥ·te·hā,
in place of it
לְאַרְבַּ֖ע
lə·’ar·ba‘
רוּח֥וֹת
rū·ḥō·wṯ
. הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃
haš·šā·mā·yim.
of the heaven .

וּמִן־
ū·min-
And out
הָאַחַ֣ת
hā·’a·ḥaṯ
of one
מֵהֶ֔ם
mê·hem,
of them
יָצָ֥א
yā·ṣā
､ קֶֽרֶן־
qe·ren-
horn ､
אַחַ֖ת
’a·ḥaṯ
a
מִצְּעִירָ֑ה
miṣ·ṣə·‘î·rāh;
וַתִּגְדַּל־
wat·tiḡ·dal-
､ יֶ֛תֶר
ye·ṯer
אֶל־
’el-
､ הַנֶּ֥גֶב
han·ne·ḡeḇ
the south ､
וְאֶל־
wə·’el-
and toward
､ הַמִּזְרָ֖ח
ham·miz·rāḥ
the east ､
וְאֶל־
wə·’el-
and toward
. הַצֶּֽבִי׃
haṣ·ṣe·ḇî.
the Glorious [Land] .

､ וַתִּגְדַּ֖ל
wat·tiḡ·dal
And it grew up ､
עַד־
‘aḏ-
to
צְבָ֣א
ṣə·ḇā
the host
– הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם
haš·šā·mā·yim;
of heaven –
וַתַּפֵּ֥ל
wat·tap·pêl
and it cast down
､ אַ֛רְצָה
’ar·ṣāh
to the ground ､
מִן־
min-
הַצָּבָ֥א
haṣ·ṣā·ḇā
of the host
וּמִן־
ū·min-
and [some]
הַכּוֹכָבִ֖ים
hak·kō·w·ḵā·ḇîm
of the stars
. וַֽתִּרְמְסֵֽם׃
wat·tir·mə·sêm.

וְעַ֥ד
wə·‘aḏ
And even as high as
שַֽׂר־
śar-
the Prince
､ הַצָּבָ֖א
haṣ·ṣā·ḇā
of the host ､
הִגְדִּ֑יל
hiḡ·dîl;
וּמִמֶּ֙נּוּ֙
ū·mim·men·nū
and by him
[הרים]
hê·rîm
-
､ (הוּרַ֣ם)
hū·ram
הַתָּמִ֔יד
hat·tā·mîḏ,
וְהֻשְׁלַ֖ךְ
wə·huš·laḵ
מְכ֥וֹן
mə·ḵō·wn
the place
. מִקְדָּשֽׁוֹ׃
miq·dā·šōw.

וְצָבָ֛א
wə·ṣā·ḇā
And an army
תִּנָּתֵ֥ן
tin·nā·ṯên
was given over [to the horn]
עַל־
‘al-
הַתָּמִ֖יד
hat·tā·mîḏ
､ בְּפָ֑שַׁע
bə·p̄ā·ša‘;
וְתַשְׁלֵ֤ךְ
wə·ṯaš·lêḵ
and he cast down
אֱמֶת֙
’ĕ·meṯ
– אַ֔רְצָה
’ar·ṣāh,
to the ground –
､ וְעָשְׂתָ֖ה
wə·‘ā·śə·ṯāh
and He did [all this] ､
. וְהִצְלִֽיחָה׃
wə·hiṣ·lî·ḥāh.
and prospered .

וָאֶשְׁמְעָ֥ה
wā·’eš·mə·‘āh
And I heard
אֶֽחָד־
’e·ḥāḏ-
a
קָד֖וֹשׁ
qā·ḏō·wōš
､ מְדַבֵּ֑ר
mə·ḏab·bêr;
וַיֹּאמֶר֩
way·yō·mer
and said
אֶחָ֨ד
’e·ḥāḏ
קָד֜וֹשׁ
qā·ḏō·wōš
לַפַּֽלְמוֹנִ֣י
lap·pal·mō·w·nî
､ הַֽמְדַבֵּ֗ר
ham·ḏab·bêr,
עַד־
‘aḏ-
מָתַ֞י
mā·ṯay
long [will be]
הֶחָז֤וֹן
he·ḥā·zō·wn
the vision
הַתָּמִיד֙
hat·tā·mîḏ
וְהַפֶּ֣שַׁע
wə·hap·pe·ša‘
､ שֹׁמֵ֔ם
šō·mêm,
of desolation ､
תֵּ֛ת
têṯ
the giving
וְקֹ֥דֶשׁ
wə·qō·ḏeš
and both the sanctuary
וְצָבָ֖א
wə·ṣā·ḇā
and the host
؟ מִרְמָֽס׃
mir·mās.
to be trampled under [foot] ؟

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר
way·yō·mer
and he said
אֵלַ֔י
’ê·lay,
to me
עַ֚ד
‘aḏ
עֶ֣רֶב
‘e·reḇ
– בֹּ֔קֶר
bō·qer,
days –
אַלְפַּ֖יִם
’al·pa·yim
וּשְׁלֹ֣שׁ
ū·šə·lōš
and three
מֵא֑וֹת
mê·’ō·wṯ;
וְנִצְדַּ֖ק
wə·niṣ·daq
. קֹֽדֶשׁ׃
qō·ḏeš.
the sanctuary .

and who called ､

and said ､
､ גַּבְרִיאֵ֕ל

הָבֵ֥ן
hā·ḇên
לְהַלָּ֖ז

. הַמַּרְאֶֽה׃

the vision .

וַיָּבֹא֙

So he came
אֵ֣צֶל
’ê·ṣel
עָמְדִ֔י
‘ā·mə·ḏî,
､ וּבְבֹא֣וֹ
ū·ḇə·ḇō·’ōw
and when he came ､
､ נִבְעַ֔תִּי
niḇ·‘at·tî,
I was afraid ､
וָאֶפְּלָ֖ה
wā·’ep·pə·lāh
and fell
עַל־
‘al-
on
– פָּנָ֑י
pā·nāy;
my face –
וַיֹּ֤אמֶר
way·yō·mer
but he said
אֵלַי֙
’ê·lay
to me
､ הָבֵ֣ן
hā·ḇên
בֶּן־
ben-
､ אָדָ֔ם
’ā·ḏām,
of man ､
כִּ֖י
kî
לְעֶת־
lə·‘eṯ-
to the time
קֵ֥ץ
qêṣ
of the end
. הֶחָזֽוֹן׃
he·ḥā·zō·wn.
the vision [refers] .

וּבְדַבְּר֣וֹ
ū·ḇə·ḏab·bə·rōw
And as he was speaking
עִמִּ֔י
‘im·mî,
with me
נִרְדַּ֥מְתִּי
nir·dam·tî
I was in a deep sleep
עַל־
‘al-
with
פָּנַ֖י
pā·nay
my face
– אָ֑רְצָה
’ā·rə·ṣāh;
to the ground –
וַיִּ֨גַּע־
way·yig·ga‘-
but he touched
בִּ֔י
bî,
me
וַיַּֽעֲמִידֵ֖נִי
way·ya·‘ă·mî·ḏê·nî
and stood me
עַל־
‘al-
on
. עָמְדִֽי׃
‘ā·mə·ḏî.

､ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙
way·yō·mer
And he said ､
הִנְנִ֣י
hin·nî
מוֹדִֽיעֲךָ֔
mō·w·ḏî·‘ă·ḵā,
I am making known to you
אֵ֥ת
’êṯ
-
אֲשֶׁר־
’ă·šer-
יִהְיֶ֖ה
yih·yeh
בְּאַחֲרִ֣ית
bə·’a·ḥă·rîṯ
in the latter time
､ הַזָּ֑עַם
haz·zā·‘am;
of the indignation ､
כִּ֖י
kî
לְמוֹעֵ֥ד
lə·mō·w·‘êḏ
. קֵֽץ׃
qêṣ.
the end [shall be] .

הָאַ֥יִל
hā·’a·yil
The ram
אֲשֶׁר־
’ă·šer-
רָאִ֖יתָ
rā·’î·ṯā
בַּ֣עַל
ba·‘al
הַקְּרָנָ֑יִם
haq·qə·rā·nā·yim;
מַלְכֵ֖י
mal·ḵê
[they are] the kings
מָדַ֥י
mā·ḏay
. וּפָרָֽס׃
ū·p̄ā·rās.
and Persia .
21
וְהַצָּפִ֥יר
wə·haṣ·ṣā·p̄îr
And the goat [is]
הַשָּׂעִ֖יר
haś·śā·‘îr
מֶ֣לֶךְ
me·leḵ
､ יָוָ֑ן
yā·wān;
of Greece ､
וְהַקֶּ֤רֶן
wə·haq·qe·ren
and the horn
הַגְּדוֹלָה֙
hag·gə·ḏō·w·lāh
אֲשֶׁ֣ר
’ă·šer
that [is]
בֵּין־
bên-
עֵינָ֔יו
‘ê·nāw,
ה֖וּא
hū
is
הַמֶּ֥לֶךְ
ham·me·leḵ
the king
. הָרִאשֽׁוֹן׃
hā·ri·šō·wn.
22
､ וְהַ֨נִּשְׁבֶּ֔רֶת
wə·han·niš·be·reṯ,
And as for the broken [horn] ､
וַתַּֽעֲמֹ֥דְנָה
wat·ta·‘ă·mō·ḏə·nāh
אַרְבַּ֖ע
’ar·ba‘
the four
תַּחְתֶּ֑יהָ
taḥ·te·hā;
אַרְבַּ֧ע
’ar·ba‘
מַלְכֻי֛וֹת
mal·ḵu·yō·wṯ
､ מִגּ֥וֹי
mig·gō·w
out of that nation ､
יַעֲמֹ֖דְנָה
ya·‘ă·mō·ḏə·nāh
וְלֹ֥א
wə·lō
but not
. בְכֹחֽוֹ׃
ḇə·ḵō·ḥōw.
with its power .

וּֽבְאַחֲרִית֙
ū·ḇə·’a·ḥă·rîṯ
And in the latter time
､ מַלְכוּתָ֔ם
mal·ḵū·ṯām,
of their kingdom ､
､ כְּהָתֵ֖ם
kə·hā·ṯêm
הַפֹּשְׁעִ֑ים
hap·pō·šə·‘îm;
. יַעֲמֹ֛ד
ya·‘ă·mōḏ
מֶ֥לֶךְ
me·leḵ
עַז־
‘az-
､ פָּנִ֖ים
pā·nîm
וּמֵבִ֥ין
ū·mê·ḇîn
､ חִידֽוֹת׃
ḥî·ḏō·wṯ.
24
､ וְעָצַ֤ם
wə·‘ā·ṣam
and shall be mighty ､
כֹּחוֹ֙
kō·ḥōw
וְלֹ֣א
wə·lō
but not
､ בְכֹח֔וֹ
ḇə·ḵō·ḥōw,
by his own power ､
､ וְנִפְלָא֥וֹת
wə·nip̄·lā·’ō·wṯ
and fearfully ､
יַשְׁחִ֖ית
yaš·ḥîṯ
､ וְהִצְלִ֣יחַ
wə·hiṣ·lî·aḥ
and shall prosper ､
､ וְעָשָׂ֑ה
wə·‘ā·śāh;
and thrive ､
וְהִשְׁחִ֥ית
wə·hiš·ḥîṯ
and He shall destroy
עֲצוּמִ֖ים
‘ă·ṣū·mîm
the mighty
וְעַם־
wə·‘am-
and [also] the people
. קְדֹשִֽׁים׃
qə·ḏō·šîm.
25
וְעַל־
wə·‘al-
שִׂכְל֗וֹ
śiḵ·lōw,
וְהִצְלִ֤יחַ
wə·hiṣ·lî·aḥ
and He shall cause to prosper
מִרְמָה֙
mir·māh
– בְּיָד֔וֹ
bə·yā·ḏōw,
､ וּבִלְבָב֣וֹ
ū·ḇil·ḇā·ḇōw
and in his heart ､
יַגְדִּ֔יל
yaḡ·dîl,
וּבְשַׁלְוָ֖ה
ū·ḇə·šal·wāh
and in [their] prosperity
יַשְׁחִ֣ית
yaš·ḥîṯ
– רַבִּ֑ים
rab·bîm;
many –
וְעַ֤ל־
wə·‘al-
שַׂר־
śar-
the Prince
– שָׂרִים֙
śā·rîm
of princes –
יַעֲמֹ֔ד
ya·‘ă·mōḏ,
וּבְאֶ֥פֶס
ū·ḇə·’e·p̄es
יָ֖ד
yāḏ
. יִשָּׁבֵֽר׃
yiš·šā·ḇêr.
he shall be broken .

וּמַרְאֵ֨ה
ū·mar·’êh
And the vision
הָעֶ֧רֶב
hā·‘e·reḇ
of the evenings
וְהַבֹּ֛קֶר
wə·hab·bō·qer
אֲשֶׁ֥ר
’ă·šer
נֶאֱמַ֖ר
ne·’ĕ·mar
– אֱמֶ֣ת
’ĕ·meṯ
TRUE –
ה֑וּא
hū;
is
וְאַתָּה֙
wə·’at·tāh
סְתֹ֣ם
sə·ṯōm
seal up
– הֶֽחָז֔וֹן
he·ḥā·zō·wn,
the vision –
כִּ֖י
kî
לְיָמִ֥ים
lə·yā·mîm
[it refers] to days [in the future]
. רַבִּֽים׃
rab·bîm.
27
וַאֲנִ֣י
wa·’ă·nî
And I
דָנִיֵּ֗אל
ḏā·nî·yêl,
､ נִהְיֵ֤יתִי
nih·yê·ṯî
וְנֶֽחֱלֵ֙יתִי֙
wə·ne·ḥĕ·lê·ṯî
and was sick
– יָמִ֔ים
yā·mîm,
for days –
､ וָאָק֕וּם
wā·’ā·qūm
and afterward I arose ､
וָאֶֽעֱשֶׂ֖ה
wā·’e·‘ĕ·śeh
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
– מְלֶ֣אכֶת
mə·le·ḵeṯ
הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ
