וַיְהִ֥י

דְבַר־

יְהוָ֖ה

אֵלַ֥י

’ê·lay

to me

､ לֵאמֹֽר׃

lê·mōr.

בֶּן־

ben-

､ אָדָ֗ם

’ā·ḏām,

of man ､

שִׂ֤ים

śîm

פָּנֶ֙יךָ֙

pā·ne·ḵā

אֶל־

’el-

､ יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם

yə·rū·šā·lim,

וְהַטֵּ֖ף

wə·haṭ·ṭêp̄

אֶל־

’el-

､ מִקְדָּשִׁ֑ים

miq·dā·šîm;

the holy places ､

וְהִנָּבֵ֖א

wə·hin·nā·ḇê

אֶל־

’el-

אַדְמַ֥ת

’aḏ·maṯ

the land

､ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

yiś·rā·’êl.

of Israel ､

וְאָמַרְתָּ֞

wə·’ā·mar·tā

and say

לְאַדְמַ֣ת

lə·’aḏ·maṯ

to the land

､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל

yiś·rā·’êl,

of Israel ､

כֹּ֚ה

kōh

אָמַ֣ר

’ā·mar

– יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

הִנְנִ֣י

hin·nî

behold I [am]

אֵלַ֔יִךְ

’ê·la·yiḵ,

וְהוֹצֵאתִ֥י

wə·hō·w·ṣê·ṯî

and I will draw

חַרְבִּ֖י

ḥar·bî

､ מִתַּעְרָ֑הּ

mit·ta‘·rāh;

out of its sheath ､

וְהִכְרַתִּ֥י

wə·hiḵ·rat·tî

､ מִמֵּ֖ךְ

mim·mêḵ

צַדִּ֥יק

ṣad·dîq

. וְרָשָֽׁע׃

wə·rā·šā‘.

and wicked .

יַ֛עַן

ya·‘an

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

הִכְרַ֥תִּי

hiḵ·rat·tî

I will cut off

מִמֵּ֖ךְ

mim·mêḵ

צַדִּ֣יק

ṣad·dîq

､ וְרָשָׁ֑ע

wə·rā·šā‘;

and wicked ､

לָ֠כֵן

lā·ḵên

תֵּצֵ֨א

tê·ṣê

חַרְבִּ֧י

ḥar·bî

מִתַּעְרָ֛הּ

mit·ta‘·rāh

out of its sheath

אֶל־

’el-

כָּל־

kāl-

בָּשָׂ֖ר

bā·śār

מִנֶּ֥גֶב

min·ne·ḡeḇ

. צָפֽוֹן׃

ṣā·p̄ō·wn.

[to] north .

וְיָֽדְעוּ֙

wə·yā·ḏə·‘ū

כָּל־

kāl-

בָּשָׂ֔ר

bā·śār,

כִּ֚י

kî

אֲנִ֣י

’ă·nî

I

יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

הוֹצֵ֥אתִי

hō·w·ṣê·ṯî

חַרְבִּ֖י

ḥar·bî

. מִתַּעְרָ֑הּ

mit·ta‘·rāh;

out of its sheath .

Not

תָשׁ֖וּב

ṯā·šūḇ

it shall return

. עֽוֹד׃

‘ō·wḏ.

וְאַתָּ֥ה

wə·’at·tāh

And therefore you

בֶן־

ḇen-

､ אָדָ֖ם

’ā·ḏām

of man ､

הֵֽאָנַ֑ח

hê·’ā·naḥ;

בְּשִׁבְר֤וֹן

bə·šiḇ·rō·wn

– מָתְנַ֙יִם֙

mā·ṯə·na·yim

a heart –

וּבִמְרִיר֔וּת

ū·ḇim·rî·rūṯ,

and with bitterness

תֵּֽאָנַ֖ח

tê·’ā·naḥ

. לְעֵינֵיהֶֽם׃

lə·‘ê·nê·hem.

before their eyes .

､ וְהָיָה֙

wə·hā·yāh

And it shall be ､

כִּֽי־

kî-

יֹאמְר֣וּ

yō·mə·rū

אֵלֶ֔יךָ

’ê·le·ḵā,

to you

עַל־

‘al-

מָ֖ה

māh

؟ אַתָּ֣ה

’at·tāh

you ؟

נֶאֱנָ֑ח

ne·’ĕ·nāḥ;

､ וְאָמַרְתָּ֡

wə·’ā·mar·tā

that you shall answer ､

אֶל־

’el-

– שְׁמוּעָ֣ה

šə·mū·‘āh

of the news –

כִֽי־

ḵî-

– בָאָ֡ה

ḇā·’āh

it comes –

､ וְנָמֵ֣ס

wə·nā·mês

and will melt ､

כָּל־

kāl-

לֵב֩

lêḇ

､ וְרָפ֨וּ

wə·rā·p̄ū

and will be feeble ､

כָל־

ḵāl

יָדַ֜יִם

yā·ḏa·yim

､ וְכִהֲתָ֣ה

wə·ḵi·hă·ṯāh

and will faint ､

כָל־

ḵāl

ר֗וּחַ

rū·aḥ,

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and all

בִּרְכַּ֙יִם֙

bir·ka·yim

תֵּלַ֣כְנָה

tê·laḵ·nāh

will be weak

. מַּ֔יִם

ma·yim,

[as] water .

､ הִנֵּ֤ה

hin·nêh

､ בָאָה֙

ḇā·’āh

it is coming ､

､ וְנִֽהְיָ֔תָה

wə·nih·yā·ṯāh,

and shall be brought to pass ､

נְאֻ֖ם

nə·’um

אֲדֹנָ֥י

’ă·ḏō·nāy

the Lord

. יְהוִֽה׃

Yah·weh.

– אֲדֹנָ֑י

､ אֱמֹ֕ר

’ĕ·mōr

Say ､

､ חֶ֥רֶב

ḥe·reḇ

a sword ､

חֶ֛רֶב

ḥe·reḇ

､ הוּחַ֖דָּה

hū·ḥad·dāh

is sharpened ､

וְגַם־

wə·ḡam-

and also

! מְרוּטָֽה׃

mə·rū·ṭāh.

לְמַ֨עַן

lə·ma·‘an

to

טְבֹ֤חַ

ṭə·ḇō·aḥ

make a slaughter

– טֶ֙בַח֙

ṭe·ḇaḥ

הוּחַ֔דָּה

hū·ḥad·dāh,

לְמַעַן־

lə·ma·‘an-

to

– הֱיֵה־

hĕ·yêh-

it may become –

לָ֥הּ

lāh

to

– בָּ֖רָק

bā·rāq

[flash] like lightning –

מֹרָ֑טָּה

mō·rāṭ·ṭāh;

א֣וֹ

’ōw

؟ נָשִׂ֔ישׂ

nā·śîś,

Should we make mirth ؟

שֵׁ֥בֶט

šê·ḇeṭ

､ בְּנִ֖י

bə·nî

of My Son ､

מֹאֶ֥סֶת

mō·’e·seṯ

כָּל־

kāl-

[As] [it] [does] all

. עֵֽץ׃

‘êṣ.

וַיִּתֵּ֥ן

way·yit·tên

And He has given

אֹתָ֛הּ

’ō·ṯāh

it

､ לְמָרְטָ֖ה

lə·mā·rə·ṭāh

to be polished ､

לִתְפֹּ֣שׂ

liṯ·pōś

– בַּכָּ֑ף

bak·kāp̄;

may be handled –

הִֽיא־

hî-

it

､ הוּחַ֤דָּה

hū·ḥad·dāh

is sharpened ､

חֶ֙רֶב֙

ḥe·reḇ

וְהִ֣יא

wə·hî

and it

､ מֹרָ֔טָּה

mō·rāṭ·ṭāh,

is polished ､

לָתֵ֥ת

lā·ṯêṯ

to be given

אוֹתָ֖הּ

’ō·w·ṯāh

-

בְּיַד־

bə·yaḏ-

. הוֹרֵֽג׃

hō·w·rêḡ.

of the slayer .

זְעַ֤ק

zə·‘aq

､ וְהֵילֵל֙

wə·hê·lêl

and wail ､

בֶּן־

ben-

– אָדָ֔ם

’ā·ḏām,

of man –

כִּי־

kî-

הִיא֙

hî

it

הָיתָ֣ה‪‬

hāy·ṯāh

will be

､ בְעַמִּ֔י

ḇə·‘am·mî,

against My people ､

הִ֖יא

hî

it [is]

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

נְשִׂיאֵ֣י

nə·śî·’ê

. יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל

yiś·rā·’êl;

מְגוּרֵ֤י

mə·ḡū·rê

אֶל־

’el-

חֶ֙רֶב֙

ḥe·reḇ

הָי֣וּ

hā·yū

will be

אֶת־

’eṯ-

､ עַמִּ֔י

‘am·mî,

My people ､

לָכֵ֖ן

lā·ḵên

סְפֹ֥ק

sə·p̄ōq

אֶל־

’el-

on

. יָרֵֽךְ׃

yā·rêḵ.

כִּ֣י

kî

､ בֹ֔חַן

ḇō·ḥan,

[it] [is] a testing ､

וּמָ֕ה

ū·māh

and what

אִם־

’im-

if

גַּם־

gam-

؟ שֵׁ֥בֶט

šê·ḇeṭ

the scepter ؟

מֹאֶ֖סֶת

mō·’e·seṯ

the [sword] despises

לֹ֣א

lō

no [more]

יִֽהְיֶ֑ה

yih·yeh;

[The] [scepter] shall be

נְאֻ֖ם

nə·’um

אֲדֹנָ֥י

’ă·ḏō·nāy

the Lord

. יְהוִֽה׃

Yah·weh.

And therefore You

בֶן־

､ אָדָ֔ם

of man ､

､ הִנָּבֵ֕א

hin·nā·ḇê

wə·haḵ

and strike ､

כַּ֣ף

kap̄

-

אֶל־

’el-

כָּ֑ף

kāp̄;

[your] hands [together]

וְתִכָּפֵ֞ל

wə·ṯik·kā·p̄êl

and let do double [damage]

חֶ֤רֶב

ḥe·reḇ

､ שְׁלִישִׁ֙תָה֙

šə·lî·ši·ṯāh

the third [time] ､

חֶ֣רֶב

ḥe·reḇ

. חֲלָלִ֔ים

ḥă·lā·lîm,

הִ֗יא

hî,

It [is]

חֶ֚רֶב

ḥe·reḇ

､ חָלָ֣ל

ḥā·lāl

הַגָּד֔וֹל

hag·gā·ḏō·wl,

the great [men]

הַחֹדֶ֖רֶת

ha·ḥō·ḏe·reṯ

that enters private chambers

. לָהֶֽם׃

lā·hem.

לְמַ֣עַן ׀

lə·ma·‘an

､ לָמ֣וּג

lā·mūḡ

לֵ֗ב

lêḇ,

– וְהַרְבֵּה֙

wə·har·bêh

and many –

הַמִּכְשֹׁלִ֔ים

ham·miḵ·šō·lîm,

עַ֚ל

‘al

כָּל־

kāl-

､ שַׁ֣עֲרֵיהֶ֔ם

ša·‘ă·rê·hem,

their gates ､

נָתַ֖תִּי

nā·ṯat·tî

אִבְחַת־

’iḇ·ḥaṯ-

חָ֑רֶב

ḥā·reḇ;

of the sword

! אָ֛ח

’āḥ

Ah !

עֲשׂוּיָ֥ה

‘ă·śū·yāh

[It] [is] made

､ לְבָרָ֖ק

lə·ḇā·rāq

מְעֻטָּ֥ה

mə·‘uṭ·ṭāh

[It] [is] grasped

. לְטָֽבַח׃

lə·ṭā·ḇaḥ.

for slaughter .

､ הִתְאַחֲדִ֥י

hiṯ·’a·ḥă·ḏî

Swords at the ready ､

､ הֵימִ֖נִי

hê·mi·nî

Thrust right ､

הָשִׂ֣ימִי

hā·śî·mî

､ הַשְׂמִ֑ילִי

haś·mî·lî;

Thrust left ､

אָ֖נָה

’ā·nāh

פָּנַ֥יִךְ

pā·na·yiḵ

. מֻעָדֽוֹת׃

mu·‘ā·ḏō·wṯ.

וְגַם־

wə·ḡam-

And also

אֲנִ֗י

’ă·nî,

I

אַכֶּ֤ה

’ak·keh

will beat

､ כַפִּי֙

ḵap·pî

My fists ､

אֶל־

’el-

כַּפִּ֔י

kap·pî,

– וַהֲנִחֹתִ֖י

wa·hă·ni·ḥō·ṯî

and I will cause to rest –

חֲמָתִ֑י

ḥă·mā·ṯî;

אֲנִ֥י

’ă·nî

שְׁנֵיהֶ֑ם

the two of them

､ וְיָ֣ד

and a sign ､

בָּרֵ֔א

בְּרֹ֥אשׁ

at the head

דֶּֽרֶךְ־

of the road to

עִ֖יר

the city

In his right hand

הָיָ֣ה ׀

הַקֶּ֣סֶם

haq·qe·sem

､ יְרוּשָׁלִַ֗ם

yə·rū·šā·lim,

for Jerusalem ､

לָשׂ֤וּם

lā·śūm

to set up

､ כָּרִים֙

kā·rîm

battering rams ､

לִפְתֹּ֤חַ

lip̄·tō·aḥ

פֶּה֙

peh

､ בְּרֶ֔צַח

bə·re·ṣaḥ,

a slaughter ､

לְהָרִ֥ים

lə·hā·rîm

ק֖וֹל

qō·wl

､ בִּתְרוּעָ֑ה

biṯ·rū·‘āh;

with shouting ､

לָשׂ֤וּם

lā·śūm

to set

כָּרִים֙

kā·rîm

עַל־

‘al-

､ שְׁעָרִ֔ים

šə·‘ā·rîm,

the gates ､

לִשְׁפֹּ֥ךְ

liš·pōḵ

to heap up

､ סֹלְלָ֖ה

sō·lə·lāh

a [siege] mound ､

לִבְנ֥וֹת

liḇ·nō·wṯ

and to build

. דָּיֵֽק׃

dā·yêq.

a wall .

וְהָיָ֨ה

wə·hā·yāh

And it will be

לָהֶ֤ם

lā·hem

[כקסום־]

kiq·sō·wm-

-

(כִּקְסָם־)

kiq·sām-

like a divination

שָׁוְא֙

šāw

､ בְּעֵ֣ינֵיהֶ֔ם

bə·‘ê·nê·hem,

in the eyes ､

שְׁבֻעֵ֥י

šə·ḇu·‘ê

of those who have sworn

. שְׁבֻע֖וֹת

šə·ḇu·‘ō·wṯ

לָהֶ֑ם

lā·hem;

With them

וְהֽוּא־

wə·hū-

but he

מַזְכִּ֥יר

maz·kîr

will bring to remembrance

､ עָוֺ֖ן

‘ā·wōn

their iniquity ､

. לְהִתָּפֵֽשׂ׃

lə·hit·tā·p̄êś.

that they may be taken .

the Lord

– יְהוִה֒

GOD –

､ הַזְכַּרְכֶם֙

haz·kar·ḵem

you have made to be remembered ､

עֲוֺ֣נְכֶ֔ם

‘ă·wō·nə·ḵem,

､ בְּהִגָּל֣וֹת

bə·hig·gā·lō·wṯ

in that are uncovered ､

פִּשְׁעֵיכֶ֗ם

piš·‘ê·ḵem,

your transgressions

– לְהֵֽרָאוֹת֙

lə·hê·rā·’ō·wṯ

so that appear –

חַטֹּ֣אותֵיכֶ֔ם

ḥaṭ·ṭō·w·ṯê·ḵem,

בְּכֹ֖ל

bə·ḵōl

in all

עֲלִילֽוֹתֵיכֶ֑ם

‘ă·lî·lō·w·ṯê·ḵem;

､ יַ֚עַן

ya·‘an

､ הִזָּ֣כֶרְכֶ֔ם

hiz·zā·ḵer·ḵem,

you have come to remembrance ､

בַּכַּ֖ף

bak·kap̄

. תִּתָּפֵֽשׂוּ׃

tit·tā·p̄ê·śū.

you shall be taken .

And to you ､

חָלָ֣ל

of Israel ､

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

､ בָּ֣א

יוֹמ֔וֹ

בְּעֵ֖ת

bə·‘êṯ

עֲוֺ֥ן

‘ă·wōn

iniquity [shall]

､ קֵֽץ׃

qêṣ.

– הָֽעֲטָרָ֑ה

the crown –

this [is]

לֹא־

lō-

not

– זֹ֔את

zōṯ,

this –

､ הַשָּׁפָ֣לָה

haš·šā·p̄ā·lāh

the humble ､

הַגְבֵּ֔הַ‪‬

haḡ·bê·ha,

וְהַגָּבֹ֖הַ‪‬

wə·hag·gā·ḇō·ha

and the high

. הַשְׁפִּֽיל׃

haš·pîl.

עַוָּ֥ה

‘aw·wāh

עַוָּ֖ה

‘aw·wāh

､ עַוָּ֣ה

‘aw·wāh

אֲשִׂימֶ֑נָּה

’ă·śî·men·nāh;

I will make it

גַּם־

gam-

and

זֹאת֙

zōṯ

לֹ֣א

lō

הָיָ֔ה

hā·yāh,

עַד־

‘aḏ-

בֹּ֛א

bō

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

ל֥וֹ

lōw

it is

הַמִּשְׁפָּ֖ט

ham·miš·pāṭ

. וּנְתַתִּֽיו׃

ū·nə·ṯat·tîw.

and I will give it [to] [Him] .

the Lord

the sons

עַמּ֖וֹן

וְאֶל־

wə·’el-

– חֶרְפָּתָ֑ם

ḥer·pā·ṯām;

their reproach –

וְאָמַרְתָּ֗

wə·’ā·mar·tā,

and say

､ חֶ֣רֶב

ḥe·reḇ

a sword ､

חֶ֤רֶב

ḥe·reḇ

､ פְּתוּחָה֙

pə·ṯū·ḥāh

[is] drawn ､

לְטֶ֣בַח

lə·ṭe·ḇaḥ

､ מְרוּטָ֔ה

mə·rū·ṭāh,

לְהָכִ֖יל

lə·hā·ḵîl

לְמַ֥עַן

lə·ma·‘an

– בָּרָֽק׃

bā·rāq.

בַּחֲז֥וֹת

ba·ḥă·zō·wṯ

לָךְ֙

lāḵ

שָׁ֔וְא

šāw,

FALSE [visions]

בִּקְסָם־

biq·sām-

while they divine

לָ֖ךְ

lāḵ

to you

כָּזָ֑ב

kā·zāḇ;

לָתֵ֣ת

lā·ṯêṯ

､ רְשָׁעִ֔ים

the wicked ､

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

､ בָּ֣א

bā

יוֹמָ֔ם

yō·w·mām,

בְּעֵ֖ת

bə·‘êṯ

עֲוֺ֥ן

‘ă·wōn

iniquity [shall]

. קֵֽץ׃

qêṣ.

הָשַׁ֖ב

hā·šaḇ

אֶל־

’el-

to

؟ תַּעְרָ֑הּ

ta‘·rāh;

בִּמְק֧וֹם

bim·qō·wm

in the place

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

､ נִבְרֵ֛את

niḇ·rêṯ

you were created ､

בְּאֶ֥רֶץ

bə·’e·reṣ

in the land

מְכֻרוֹתַ֖יִךְ

mə·ḵu·rō·w·ṯa·yiḵ

of your nativity

אֶשְׁפֹּ֥ט

’eš·pōṭ

I will judge

. אֹתָֽךְ׃

’ō·ṯāḵ.

וְשָׁפַכְתִּ֤י

wə·šā·p̄aḵ·tî

And I will pour out

עָלַ֙יִךְ֙

‘ā·la·yiḵ

on you

זַעְמִ֔י

za‘·mî,

בְּאֵ֥שׁ

bə·’êš

with the fire

､ עֶבְרָתִ֖י

‘eḇ·rā·ṯî

of My wrath ､

אָפִ֣יחַ

’ā·p̄î·aḥ

I will blow

עָלָ֑יִךְ

‘ā·lā·yiḵ;

וּנְתַתִּ֗יךְ

ū·nə·ṯat·tîḵ,

and deliver you

בְּיַד֙

bə·yaḏ

､ אֲנָשִׁ֣ים

’ă·nā·šîm

of men ､

בֹּֽעֲרִ֔ים

bō·‘ă·rîm,

חָרָשֵׁ֖י

ḥā·rā·šê

[who] [are] skillful

. מַשְׁחִֽית׃

maš·ḥîṯ.

– לָאֵ֤שׁ

lā·’êš

For the fire –

תִּֽהְיֶה֙

tih·yeh

לְאָכְלָ֔ה

lə·’āḵ·lāh

דָּמֵ֥ךְ

dā·mêḵ

יִהְיֶ֖ה

yih·yeh

בְּת֣וֹךְ

bə·ṯō·wḵ

in the midst

– הָאָ֑רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ;

of the land –

לֹ֣א

lō

not

､ תִזָּכֵ֔רִי

ṯiz·zā·ḵê·rî,

You shall be remembered ､

כִּ֛י

kî

אֲנִ֥י

’ă·nî

I

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

. דִּבַּֽרְתִּי׃
