וַיִּהְיוּ֙

מֵאָ֥ה

שָׁנָ֛ה

וְעֶשְׂרִ֥ים

שָׁנָ֖ה

šā·nāh

וְשֶׁ֣בַע

wə·še·ḇa‘

– שָׁנִ֑ים

šā·nîm;

שְׁנֵ֖י

šə·nê

חַיֵּ֥י

ḥay·yê

of the life

. שָׂרָֽה׃

of Sarah .

וַתָּ֣מָת

wat·tā·māṯ

שָׂרָ֗ה

śā·rāh,

בְּקִרְיַ֥ת

bə·qir·yaṯ

in

– אַרְבַּ֛ע

’ar·ba‘

in Kirjath Arba –

הִ֥וא

hî

that [is]

חֶבְר֖וֹן

ḥeḇ·rō·wn

בְּאֶ֣רֶץ

bə·’e·reṣ

in the land

– כְּנָ֑עַן

kə·nā·‘an;

of Canaan –

וַיָּבֹא֙

way·yā·ḇō

and came

אַבְרָהָ֔ם

’aḇ·rā·hām,

לִסְפֹּ֥ד

lis·pōḏ

､ לְשָׂרָ֖ה

lə·śā·rāh

. וְלִבְכֹּתָֽהּ׃

wə·liḇ·kō·ṯāh.

and to weep [for] her .

וַיָּ֙קָם֙

way·yā·qām

And stood up

אַבְרָהָ֔ם

’aḇ·rā·hām,

מֵעַ֖ל

mê·‘al

פְּנֵ֣י

pə·nê

､ מֵת֑וֹ

mê·ṯōw;

his dead wife ､

וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר

way·ḏab·bêr

אֶל־

’el-

to

בְּנֵי־

bə·nê-

the sons

､ חֵ֖ת

ḥêṯ

of Heth ､

､ לֵאמֹֽר׃

lê·mōr.

גֵּר־

gêr-

וְתוֹשָׁ֥ב

wə·ṯō·wō·šāḇ

אָנֹכִ֖י

’ā·nō·ḵî

I [am]

– עִמָּכֶ֑ם

‘im·mā·ḵem;

תְּנ֨וּ

tə·nū

לִ֤י

lî

me

אֲחֻזַּת־

’ă·ḥuz·zaṯ-

קֶ֙בֶר֙

qe·ḇer

､ עִמָּכֶ֔ם

‘im·mā·ḵem,

וְאֶקְבְּרָ֥ה

wə·’eq·bə·rāh

that I may bury

מֵתִ֖י

mê·ṯî

. מִלְּפָנָֽי׃

mil·lə·p̄ā·nāy.

out of my sight .

וַיַּעֲנ֧וּ

way·ya·‘ă·nū

בְנֵי־

ḇə·nê-

the sons

חֵ֛ת

ḥêṯ

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ אַבְרָהָ֖ם

’aḇ·rā·hām

לֵאמֹ֥ר

､ לֽוֹ׃

lōw.

to him ､

שְׁמָעֵ֣נוּ ׀

､ אֲדֹנִ֗י

’ă·ḏō·nî,

my lord ､

נְשִׂ֨יא

nə·śî

אֱלֹהִ֤ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

. אַתָּה֙

’at·tāh

בְּתוֹכֵ֔נוּ

bə·ṯō·w·ḵê·nū,

בְּמִבְחַ֣ר

bə·miḇ·ḥar

in the choicest

קְבָרֵ֔ינוּ

qə·ḇā·rê·nū,

of our burial places

קְבֹ֖ר

qə·ḇōr

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

– מֵתֶ֑ךָ

mê·ṯe·ḵā;

אִ֣ישׁ

’îš

-

מִמֶּ֔נּוּ

mim·men·nū,

of us

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

קִבְר֛וֹ

qiḇ·rōw

his burial place

לֹֽא־

lō-

יִכְלֶ֥ה

yiḵ·leh

מִמְּךָ֖

mim·mə·ḵā

מִקְּבֹ֥ר

miq·qə·ḇōr

that you may bury

. מֵתֶֽךָ׃

mê·ṯe·ḵā.

וַיָּ֧קָם

way·yā·qām

And stood up

､ אַבְרָהָ֛ם

’aḇ·rā·hām

וַיִּשְׁתַּ֥חוּ

way·yiš·ta·ḥū

and bowed himself

לְעַם־

lə·‘am-

to the people

､ הָאָ֖רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

of the land ､

לִבְנֵי־

liḇ·nê-

the sons

. חֵֽת׃

ḥêṯ.

of Heth .

וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר

way·ḏab·bêr

And he spoke

אִתָּ֖ם

’it·tām

with them

､ לֵאמֹ֑ר

lê·mōr;

אִם־

’im-

if

יֵ֣שׁ

yêš

it is

אֶֽת־

’eṯ-

-

נַפְשְׁכֶ֗ם

nap̄·šə·ḵem,

לִקְבֹּ֤ר

liq·bōr

אֶת־

’eṯ-

מֵתִי֙

mê·ṯî

– מִלְּפָנַ֔י

mil·lə·p̄ā·nay,

out of my sight –

שְׁמָע֕וּנִי

šə·mā·‘ū·nî

וּפִגְעוּ־

ū·p̄iḡ·‘ū-

and meet

לִ֖י

lî

for me

בְּעֶפְר֥וֹן

bə·‘ep̄·rō·wn

בֶּן־

ben-

､ צֹֽחַר׃

ṣō·ḥar.

of Zohar ､

וְיִתֶּן־

wə·yit·ten-

that he may give

לִ֗י

lî,

me

אֶת־

מְעָרַ֤ת

mə·‘ā·raṯ

the cave

､ הַמַּכְפֵּלָה֙

ham·maḵ·pê·lāh

of Machpelah ､

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

ל֔וֹ

lōw,

he has

אֲשֶׁ֖ר

’ă·šer

which [is]

בִּקְצֵ֣ה

biq·ṣêh

at the end

– שָׂדֵ֑הוּ

śā·ḏê·hū;

of his field –

בְּכֶ֨סֶף

bə·ḵe·sep̄

At the price

מָלֵ֜א

mā·lê

יִתְּנֶ֥נָּה

yit·tə·nen·nāh

let him give it

לִ֛י

to me

בְּתוֹכְכֶ֖ם

לַאֲחֻזַּת־

la·’ă·ḥuz·zaṯ-

as property for

at the gate

､ עִיר֖וֹ

of his city ､

､ לֵאמֹֽר׃

my lord ､

､ שְׁמָעֵ֔נִי

hear me ､

הַשָּׂדֶה֙

נָתַ֣תִּי

nā·ṯat·tî

לָ֔ךְ

lāḵ,

､ וְהַמְּעָרָ֥ה

wə·ham·mə·‘ā·rāh

and the cave ､

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

that [is]

. בּ֖וֹ

bōw

in it .

לְךָ֣

lə·ḵā

to you

נְתַתִּ֑יהָ

nə·ṯat·tî·hā;

I give it

לְעֵינֵ֧י

lə·‘ê·nê

in the presence

בְנֵי־

ḇə·nê-

of the sons

､ עַמִּ֛י

‘am·mî

of my people ､

נְתַתִּ֥יהָ

nə·ṯat·tî·hā

I give it

לָּ֖ךְ

lāḵ

to you

קְבֹ֥ר

qə·ḇōr

. מֵתֶֽךָ׃

mê·ṯe·ḵā.

וַיִּשְׁתַּ֙חוּ֙

way·yiš·ta·ḥū

אַבְרָהָ֔ם

’aḇ·rā·hām,

לִפְנֵ֖י

lip̄·nê

עַ֥ם

‘am

. הָאָֽרֶץ׃

hā·’ā·reṣ.

of the land .

וַיְדַבֵּ֨ר

If

אַתָּ֥ה

’at·tāh

､ ל֖וּ

､ שְׁמָעֵ֑נִי

hear me ､

נָתַ֜תִּי

nā·ṯat·tî

I will give you

כֶּ֤סֶף

– הַשָּׂדֶה֙

haś·śā·ḏeh

for the field –

קַ֣ח

qaḥ

take [it]

､ מִמֶּ֔נִּי

mim·men·nî,

from me ､

וְאֶקְבְּרָ֥ה

wə·’eq·bə·rāh

and I will bury

אֶת־

’eṯ-

מֵתִ֖י

mê·ṯî

. שָֽׁמָּה׃

šām·māh.

וַיַּ֧עַן

way·ya·‘an

עֶפְר֛וֹן

‘ep̄·rō·wn

לֵאמֹ֥ר

listen to me

אֶרֶץ֩

The land

אַרְבַּ֨ע

[is worth] four

מֵאֹ֧ת

mê·’ōṯ

שֶֽׁקֶל־

– כֶּ֛סֶף

ke·sep̄

of silver –

בֵּינִ֥י

bê·nî

וּבֵֽינְךָ֖

ū·ḇê·nə·ḵā

and you

מַה־

mah-

what [is]

؟ הִ֑וא

hî

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

so

מֵתְךָ֖

mê·ṯə·ḵā

. קְבֹֽר׃

וַיִּשְׁמַ֣ע

אַבְרָהָם֮

– עֶפְרוֹן֒

וַיִּשְׁקֹ֤ל

and weighed out

אַבְרָהָם֙

’aḇ·rā·hām

לְעֶפְרֹ֔ן

lə·‘ep̄·rōn,

אֶת־

､ הַכֶּ֕סֶף

hak·ke·sep̄

the silver ､

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

דִּבֶּ֖ר

in the hearing

of the merchants .

וַיָּ֣קָם ׀

way·yā·qām

So were deeded over

שְׂדֵ֣ה

､ עֶפְר֗וֹן

‘ep̄·rō·wn,

of Ephron ､

אֲשֶׁר֙

’ă·šer

､ בַּמַּכְפֵּלָ֔ה

bam·maḵ·pê·lāh,

in Machpelah ､

אֲשֶׁ֖ר

’ă·šer

לִפְנֵ֣י

lip̄·nê

מַמְרֵ֑א

mam·rê;

､ הַשָּׂדֶה֙

haś·śā·ḏeh

the field ､

וְהַמְּעָרָ֣ה

wə·ham·mə·‘ā·rāh

and the cave

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

בּ֔וֹ

bōw,

in it

וְכָל־

and all

הָעֵץ֙

hā·‘êṣ

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

､ בַּשָּׂדֶ֔ה

in the field ､

גְּבֻל֖וֹ

as a possession

לְעֵינֵ֣י
