וַיִּשָּׂ֥א

､ רַגְלָ֑יו

on his journey ､

וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ

way·yê·leḵ

and he came

אַ֥רְצָה

’ar·ṣāh

to the land

בְנֵי־

ḇə·nê-

of the sons

. קֶֽדֶם׃

qe·ḏem.

of the East .

､ וַיַּ֞רְא

way·yar

And he looked ､

וְהִנֵּ֧ה

wə·hin·nêh

and saw

בְאֵ֣ר

ḇə·’êr

､ בַּשָּׂדֶ֗ה

baś·śā·ḏeh,

in the field ､

וְהִנֵּה־

wə·hin·nêh-

שָׁ֞ם

שְׁלֹשָׁ֤ה

šə·lō·šāh

עֶדְרֵי־

‘eḏ·rê-

צֹאן֙

ṣōn

רֹבְצִ֣ים

rō·ḇə·ṣîm

､ עָלֶ֔יהָ

‘ā·le·hā,

by it ､

כִּ֚י

kî

מִן־

min-

הַבְּאֵ֣ר

hab·bə·’êr

הַהִ֔וא

ha·hi·w,

יַשְׁק֖וּ

yaš·qū

. הָעֲדָרִ֑ים

hā·‘ă·ḏā·rîm;

the flocks .

וְהָאֶ֥בֶן

wə·hā·’e·ḇen

And a stone [was]

גְּדֹלָ֖ה

gə·ḏō·lāh

עַל־

‘al-

on

פִּ֥י

. הַבְּאֵֽר׃

hab·bə·’êr.

of the well .

וְנֶאֶסְפוּ־

wə·ne·’es·p̄ū-

And would be gathered

שָׁ֣מָּה

šām·māh

כָל־

ḵāl

､ הָעֲדָרִ֗ים

hā·‘ă·ḏā·rîm,

the flocks ､

וְגָלֲל֤וּ

wə·ḡā·lă·lū

and they would roll

אֶת־

’eṯ-

מֵעַל֙

mê·‘al

פִּ֣י

､ הַבְּאֵ֔ר

of the well ､

. לִמְקֹמָֽהּ׃

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר

And said

לָהֶם֙

lā·hem

､ יַעֲקֹ֔ב

ya·‘ă·qōḇ,

､ אַחַ֖י

’a·ḥay

My brothers ､

מֵאַ֣יִן

mê·’a·yin

from where [are]

؟ אַתֶּ֑ם

’at·tem;

you ؟

､ וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ

way·yō·mə·rū,

and they said ､

מֵחָרָ֖ן

mê·ḥā·rān

. אֲנָֽחְנוּ׃

’ă·nā·ḥə·nū.

we [are] .

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And he said

､ לָהֶ֔ם

lā·hem,

to them ､

הַיְדַעְתֶּ֖ם

hay·ḏa‘·tem

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

לָבָ֣ן

lā·ḇān

בֶּן־

ben-

the son

؟ נָח֑וֹר

nā·ḥō·wr;

of Nahor ؟

､ וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ

way·yō·mə·rū

and they said ､

. יָדָֽעְנוּ׃

yā·ḏā·‘ə·nū.

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר

way·yō·mer

So he said

､ לָהֶ֖ם

lā·hem

to them ､

؟ הֲשָׁל֣וֹם

hă·šā·lō·wm

ל֑וֹ

lōw;

is he

､ וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ

way·yō·mə·rū

and they said ､

､ שָׁל֔וֹם

šā·lō·wm,

[He is] well ､

､ וְהִנֵּה֙

wə·hin·nêh

and look ､

רָחֵ֣ל

rā·ḥêl

בִּתּ֔וֹ

bit·tōw,

בָּאָ֖ה

bā·’āh

עִם־

‘im-

with

. הַצֹּֽאן׃

haṣ·ṣōn.

the sheep .

､ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר

way·yō·mer,

And he said ､

､ הֵ֥ן

hên

Look ､

עוֹד֙

‘ō·wḏ

הַיּ֣וֹם

hay·yō·wm

[it is] still daylight

– גָּד֔וֹל

gā·ḏō·wl,

לֹא־

lō-

not

עֵ֖ת

‘êṯ

[it is] time for

הֵאָסֵ֣ף

to be gathered together

. הַמִּקְנֶ֑ה

ham·miq·neh;

the livestock .

הַשְׁק֥וּ

haš·qū

､ הַצֹּ֖אן

haṣ·ṣōn

the sheep ､

וּלְכ֥וּ

ū·lə·ḵū

and go

. רְעֽוּ׃

rə·‘ū.

､ וַיֹּאמְרוּ֮

way·yō·mə·rū

But they said ､

לֹ֣א

נוּכַל֒

nū·ḵal

we

עַ֣ד

‘aḏ

אֲשֶׁ֤ר

’ă·šer

יֵאָֽסְפוּ֙

yê·’ā·sə·p̄ū

are gathered together

כָּל־

kāl-

､ הָ֣עֲדָרִ֔ים

hā·‘ă·ḏā·rîm,

the flocks ､

וְגָֽלֲלוּ֙

wə·ḡā·lă·lū

and they have rolled

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הָאֶ֔בֶן

hā·’e·ḇen,

– הַבְּאֵ֑ר

of the well –

וְהִשְׁקִ֖ינוּ

then we will water

the sheep .

עוֹדֶ֖נּוּ

מְדַבֵּ֣ר

he was still speaking

､ עִמָּ֑ם

‘im·mām;

with them ､

וְרָחֵ֣ל ׀

､ ה֔וּא

And said

וּבְשָׂרִ֖י

and my flesh

. אָ֑תָּה

וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב

And he stayed

עִמּ֖וֹ

‘im·mōw

with him

חֹ֥דֶשׁ

ḥō·ḏeš

. יָמִֽים׃

yā·mîm.

the time .

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

לָבָן֙

lā·ḇān

､ לְיַעֲקֹ֔ב

lə·ya·‘ă·qōḇ,

to Jacob ､

הֲכִי־

hă·ḵî-

､ אָחִ֣י

’ā·ḥî

my relative ､

אַ֔תָּה

’at·tāh,

וַעֲבַדְתַּ֖נִי

wa·‘ă·ḇaḏ·ta·nî

therefore should you serve me

؟ חִנָּ֑ם

ḥin·nām;

הַגִּ֥ידָה

hag·gî·ḏāh

לִּ֖י

מַה־

mah-

؟ מַּשְׂכֻּרְתֶּֽךָ׃

[shall be] your wages ؟

וְרָחֵל֙

הָֽיְתָ֔ה

､ יְפַת־

and

. מַרְאֶֽה׃

mar·’eh.

וַיֶּאֱהַ֥ב

so he said ､

אֶֽעֱבָדְךָ֙

I will serve you

､ בְּרָחֵ֥ל

. הַקְּטַנָּֽה׃

､ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said ､

לָבָ֗ן

[it is] better

תִּתִּ֣י

אֹתָ֣הּ

לָ֔ךְ

to you

מִתִּתִּ֥י

than that I should give

and they seemed

בְעֵינָיו֙

to him

､ אֲחָדִ֔ים

a few ､

בְּאַהֲבָת֖וֹ

bə·’a·hă·ḇā·ṯōw

because of his love for

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

And said

יַעֲקֹ֤ב

הָבָ֣ה

Give [me]

אֶת־

’eṯ-

､ אִשְׁתִּ֔י

’iš·tî,

my wife ､

מָלְא֖וּ

､ יָמָ֑י

yā·māy;

my days ､

וְאָב֖וֹאָה

that I may go in

And it came to pass

､ בָעֶ֔רֶב

､ בִתּ֔וֹ

his daughter ､

וַיָּבֵ֥א

to Jacob ､

וַיָּבֹ֖א

and he went in

. אֵלֶֽיהָ׃

וַיִּתֵּ֤ן

And gave

לָבָן֙

his maidservant

[as] a maidservant .

､ וַיְהִ֣י

way·hî

So it came to pass ､

､ בַבֹּ֔קֶר

in the morning ､

､ וְהִנֵּה־

wə·hin·nêh-

that behold ､

הִ֖וא

hî

it [was]

! לֵאָ֑ה

lê·’āh;

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

and he said

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ לָבָ֗ן

lā·ḇān,

מַה־

mah-

what [is]

זֹּאת֙

zōṯ

עָשִׂ֣יתָ

‘ā·śî·ṯā

לִּ֔י

lî,

to me

؟ הֲלֹ֤א

Was it not ؟

בְרָחֵל֙

ḇə·rā·ḥêl

עָבַ֣דְתִּי

‘ā·ḇaḏ·tî

､ עִמָּ֔ךְ

you ､

וְלָ֖מָּה

have you deceived me ؟

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

and said

､ לָבָ֔ן

לֹא־

it must be done

so

､ בִּמְקוֹמֵ֑נוּ

in our country ､

הַצְּעִירָ֖ה

לִפְנֵ֥י

. הַבְּכִירָֽה׃

שְׁבֻ֣עַ

this ､

וְנִתְּנָ֨ה

and we will give

לְךָ֜

בַּעֲבֹדָה֙

ba·‘ă·ḇō·ḏāh

for the service

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

with me

ע֖וֹד

And did

And [Jacob] went in

And she conceived

and bore

and said ､

שְׂנוּאָ֣ה

､ אָנֹ֔כִי

’ā·nō·ḵî,

I [am] ､

וַיִּתֶּן־

way·yit·ten-

therefore He has given

לִ֖י

lî

me

. גַּם־

gam-

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

– זֶ֑ה

zeh;

this [son] –

וַתִּקְרָ֥א

wat·tiq·rā

שְׁמ֖וֹ

šə·mōw

. שִׁמְעֽוֹן׃

šim·‘ō·wn.

וַתַּ֣הַר

wat·ta·har

And she conceived

､ עוֹד֮

‘ō·wḏ

וַתֵּ֣לֶד

wat·tê·leḏ

and bore

– בֵּן֒

bên

a son –

､ וַתֹּ֗אמֶר

wat·tō·mer,

and said ､

עַתָּ֤ה

‘at·tāh

הַפַּ֙עַם֙

hap·pa·‘am

יִלָּוֶ֤ה

yil·lā·weh

will become attached

אִישִׁי֙

’î·šî

､ אֵלַ֔י

’ê·lay,

to me ､

כִּֽי־

kî-

יָלַ֥דְתִּי

yā·laḏ·tî

ל֖וֹ

lōw

שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה

šə·lō·šāh

. בָנִ֑ים

ḇā·nîm;

עַל־

‘al-

כֵּ֥ן

kên

קָרָֽא־

qā·rā-

שְׁמ֖וֹ

šə·mōw

. לֵוִֽי׃

lê·wî.

וַתַּ֨הַר

wat·ta·har

And she conceived

､ ע֜וֹד

‘ō·wḏ

וַתֵּ֣לֶד

wat·tê·leḏ

and bore

– בֵּ֗ן

bên,

a son –

､ וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙

wat·tō·mer

and said ､

הַפַּ֙עַם֙

hap·pa·‘am

אוֹדֶ֣ה

’ō·w·ḏeh

I will praise

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

. יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

עַל־

‘al-

כֵּ֛ן

kên

קָרְאָ֥ה

qā·rə·’āh

שְׁמ֖וֹ

šə·mōw

– יְהוּדָ֑ה

yə·hū·ḏāh;

וַֽתַּעֲמֹ֖ד

wat·ta·‘ă·mōḏ

and she stopped

. מִלֶּֽדֶת׃

mil·le·ḏeṯ.
