and told

､ לְפַרְעֹה֒

､ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר

way·yō·mer,

and said ､

אָבִ֨י

’ā·ḇî

､ וְאַחַ֜י

wə·’a·ḥay

and my brothers ､

､ וְצֹאנָ֤ם

wə·ṣō·nām

and their flocks ､

､ וּבְקָרָם֙

ū·ḇə·qā·rām

and their herds ､

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and all

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

לָהֶ֔ם

lā·hem,

בָּ֖אוּ

bā·’ū

מֵאֶ֣רֶץ

mê·’e·reṣ

– כְּנָ֑עַן

kə·nā·‘an;

of Canaan –

וְהִנָּ֖ם

wə·hin·nām

and indeed they [are]

בְּאֶ֥רֶץ

bə·’e·reṣ

in the land

. גֹּֽשֶׁן׃

gō·šen.

וּמִקְצֵ֣ה

ū·miq·ṣêh

אֶחָ֔יו

’e·ḥāw,

､ לָקַ֖ח

lā·qaḥ

he took ､

חֲמִשָּׁ֣ה

ḥă·miš·šāh

､ אֲנָשִׁ֑ים

’ă·nā·šîm;

men ､

וַיַּצִּגֵ֖ם

way·yaṣ·ṣi·ḡêm

and presented them

לִפְנֵ֥י

lip̄·nê

to

. פַרְעֹֽה׃

p̄ar·‘ōh.

וַיֹּ֧אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

פַּרְעֹ֛ה

par·‘ōh

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ אֶחָ֖יו

’e·ḥāw

his brothers ､

מַה־

mah-

what [is]

؟ מַּעֲשֵׂיכֶ֑ם

ma·‘ă·śê·ḵem;

your occupation ؟

וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ

אֶל־

to

､ פַּרְעֹ֗ה

par·‘ōh,

רֹעֵ֥ה

､ צֹאן֙

עֲבָדֶ֔יךָ

your servants [are]

גַּם־

､ אֲנַ֖חְנוּ

we ､

גַּם־

[and] also

. אֲבוֹתֵֽינוּ׃

וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ

in the land

– בָּאנוּ֒

､ לַעֲבָדֶ֔יךָ

the famine [is]

בְּאֶ֣רֶץ

in the land

. כְּנָ֑עַן

וְעַתָּ֛ה

יֵֽשְׁבוּ־

､ נָ֥א

עֲבָדֶ֖יךָ

in the land

the days

of the years

מְגוּרַ֔י

of my sojourning [are]

שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים

וּמְאַ֖ת

ū·mə·’aṯ

– שָׁנָ֑ה

šā·nāh;

מְעַ֣ט

mə·‘aṭ

וְרָעִ֗ים

wə·rā·‘îm,

and evil

הָיוּ֙

hā·yū

יְמֵי֙

yə·mê

the days

שְׁנֵ֣י

šə·nê

of the years

､ חַיַּ֔י

ḥay·yay,

of my life ､

וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

and not

הִשִּׂ֗יגוּ

hiś·śî·ḡū,

they have attained

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

to the days

שְׁנֵי֙

of the years

חַיֵּ֣י

؟ נֶגְדֶּ֑ךָ

neḡ·de·ḵā;

in your presence ؟

כִּ֥י

אָפֵ֖ס

. כָּֽסֶף׃

the money .

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

､ יוֹסֵף֙

הָב֣וּ

– מִקְנֵיכֶ֔ם

miq·nê·ḵem,

your livestock –

וְאֶתְּנָ֥ה

wə·’et·tə·nāh

and I will exchange

לָכֶ֖ם

､ בְּמִקְנֵיכֶ֑ם

bə·miq·nê·ḵem;

for your livestock ､

אִם־

for the horses ､

the flocks ､

､ וּבְמִקְנֵ֥ה

and the livestock ､

､ הַבָּקָ֖ר

of the herds ､

– וּבַחֲמֹרִ֑ים

ū·ḇa·ḥă·mō·rîm;

for the donkeys –

וַיְנַהֲלֵ֤ם

way·na·hă·lêm

thus he fed them

בַּלֶּ֙חֶם֙

with bread

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

מִקְנֵהֶ֔ם

miq·nê·hem,

their livestock

בַּשָּׁנָ֖ה

. הַהִֽוא׃

וַתִּתֹּם֮

And when had ended

הַשָּׁנָ֣ה

､ הַהִוא֒

we will hide

､ מֵֽאֲדֹנִ֔י

from my lord ､

כִּ֚י

､ הַכֶּ֔סֶף

וּמִקְנֵ֥ה

הַבְּהֵמָ֖ה

my lord ､

גְּוִיָּתֵ֖נוּ

. וְאַדְמָתֵֽנוּ׃

and our lands .

לָ֧מָּה

נָמ֣וּת

nā·mūṯ

､ לְעֵינֶ֗יךָ

lə·‘ê·ne·ḵā,

before your eyes ､

גַּם־

gam-

אֲנַ֙חְנוּ֙

we

and

؟ אַדְמָתֵ֔נוּ

’aḏ·mā·ṯê·nū,

קְנֵֽה־

qə·nêh-

אֹתָ֥נוּ

וְאֶת־

and

אַדְמָתֵ֖נוּ

､ בַּלָּ֑חֶם

bal·lā·ḥem;

וְנִֽהְיֶ֞ה

and will be

אֲנַ֤חְנוּ

we

וְאַדְמָתֵ֙נוּ֙

wə·’aḏ·mā·ṯê·nū

עֲבָדִ֣ים

‘ă·ḇā·ḏîm

. לְפַרְעֹ֔ה

וְתֶן־

wə·ṯen-

And give [us]

､ זֶ֗רַע

ze·ra‘,

seed ､

､ וְנִֽחְיֶה֙

wə·niḥ·yeh

that we may live ､

וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

and not

､ נָמ֔וּת

nā·mūṯ,

die ､

וְהָאֲדָמָ֖ה

wə·hā·’ă·ḏā·māh

. תֵשָֽׁם׃

may be desolate .

the famine .

וַתְּהִ֥י

the land

. לְפַרְעֹֽה׃

וְאֶ֨ת־

wə·’eṯ-

And as for

､ הָעָ֔ם

hā·‘ām,

the people ､

הֶעֱבִ֥יר

he·‘ĕ·ḇîr

אֹת֖וֹ

’ō·ṯōw

､ לֶעָרִ֑ים

le·‘ā·rîm;

into the cities ､

מִקְצֵ֥ה

miq·ṣêh

גְבוּל־

ḡə·ḇūl-

of the borders

מִצְרַ֖יִם

miṣ·ra·yim

וְעַד־

wə·‘aḏ-

and to

. קָצֵֽהוּ׃

qā·ṣê·hū.

the [other] end .

. לְפַרְעֹ֑ה

Look ､

לָכֶ֣ם

for you [here is]

､ זֶ֔רַע

ze·ra‘,

seed ､

וּזְרַעְתֶּ֖ם

ū·zə·ra‘·tem

and you shall sow

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

. הָאֲדָמָֽה׃

hā·’ă·ḏā·māh.

the land .

וְהָיָה֙

wə·hā·yāh

And it shall come to pass

､ בַּתְּבוּאֹ֔ת

bat·tə·ḇū·’ōṯ,

at the harvest ､

וּנְתַתֶּ֥ם

ū·nə·ṯat·tem

that you shall give

חֲמִישִׁ֖ית

ḥă·mî·šîṯ

､ לְפַרְעֹ֑ה

lə·p̄ar·‘ōh;

to Pharaoh ､

וְאַרְבַּ֣ע

wə·’ar·ba‘

and four

הַיָּדֹ֡ת

hay·yā·ḏōṯ

of the parts

יִהְיֶ֣ה

yih·yeh

לָכֶם֩

lā·ḵem

לְזֶ֨רַע

lə·ze·ra‘

､ הַשָּׂדֶ֧ה

haś·śā·ḏeh

the field ､

､ וּֽלְאָכְלְכֶ֛ם

ū·lə·’ā·ḵə·lə·ḵem

for your food ､

וְלַאֲשֶׁ֥ר

wə·la·’ă·šer

､ בְּבָתֵּיכֶ֖ם

bə·ḇāt·tê·ḵem

of your households ､

וְלֶאֱכֹ֥ל

wə·le·’ĕ·ḵōl

and as food

. לְטַפְּכֶֽם׃

lə·ṭap·pə·ḵem.

You have saved our lives –

נִמְצָא־

בְּעֵינֵ֣י

in the sight

､ אֲדֹנִ֔י

’ă·ḏō·nî,

of my lord ､

וְהָיִ֥ינוּ

wə·hā·yî·nū

and we will be

עֲבָדִ֖ים

‘ă·ḇā·ḏîm

. לְפַרְעֹֽה׃

lə·p̄ar·‘ōh.

וַיָּ֣שֶׂם

way·yā·śem

And made

אֹתָ֣הּ

’ō·ṯāh

יוֹסֵ֡ף

לְחֹק֩

lə·ḥōq

עַד־

‘aḏ-

to

הַיּ֨וֹם

､ הַזֶּ֜ה

this ､

the land

､ מִצְרַ֛יִם

miṣ·ra·yim

of Egypt ､

לְפַרְעֹ֖ה

lə·p̄ar·‘ōh

､ לַחֹ֑מֶשׁ

– גֹּ֑שֶׁן

gō·šen;

of Goshen –

וַיֵּאָחֲז֣וּ

way·yê·’ā·ḥă·zū

and they had possessions

､ בָ֔הּ

ḇāh,

､ וַיִּפְר֥וּ

way·yip̄·rū

and grew ､

וַיִּרְבּ֖וּ

way·yir·bū

. מְאֹֽד׃

mə·’ōḏ.

וַיְחִ֤י

way·ḥî

יַעֲקֹב֙

ya·‘ă·qōḇ

בְּאֶ֣רֶץ

bə·’e·reṣ

in the land

מִצְרַ֔יִם

miṣ·ra·yim,

שְׁבַ֥ע

šə·ḇa‘

עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה

‘eś·rêh

[and] ten

– שָׁנָ֑ה

šā·nāh;

וַיְהִ֤י

way·hî

so was

יְמֵֽי־

yə·mê-

the age

יַעֲקֹב֙

ya·‘ă·qōḇ

שְׁנֵ֣י

šə·nê

חַיָּ֔יו

ḥay·yāw,

שֶׁ֣בַע

še·ḇa‘

שָׁנִ֔ים

šā·nîm,

וְאַרְבָּעִ֥ים

wə·’ar·bā·‘îm

וּמְאַ֖ת

ū·mə·’aṯ

. שָׁנָֽה׃

šā·nāh.

וַיִּקְרְב֣וּ

way·yiq·rə·ḇū

And when drew near

יְמֵֽי־

yə·mê-

the time

יִשְׂרָאֵ֘ל‪‬

yiś·rā·’êl

– לָמוּת֒

lā·mūṯ

to die –

וַיִּקְרָ֣א ׀

way·yiq·rā

לִבְנ֣וֹ

liḇ·nōw

､ לְיוֹסֵ֗ף

lə·yō·w·sêp̄,

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר

way·yō·mer

and said

､ לוֹ֙

lōw

to him ､

אִם־

נָ֨א

מָצָ֤אתִי

mā·ṣā·ṯî

חֵן֙

､ בְּעֵינֶ֔יךָ

bə·‘ê·ne·ḵā,

in your sight ､

､ שִֽׂים־

put ､

､ נָ֥א

יָדְךָ֖

yā·ḏə·ḵā

תַּ֣חַת

ta·ḥaṯ

､ יְרֵכִ֑י

yə·rê·ḵî;

my thigh ､

וְעָשִׂ֤יתָ

wə·‘ā·śî·ṯā

and deal

עִמָּדִי֙

‘im·mā·ḏî

with me

חֶ֣סֶד

ḥe·seḏ

. וֶאֱמֶ֔ת

we·’ĕ·meṯ,

and truly .

אַל־

’al-

Not

נָ֥א

nā

תִקְבְּרֵ֖נִי

ṯiq·bə·rê·nî

do bury me

､ בְּמִצְרָֽיִם׃

bə·miṣ·rā·yim.

in Egypt ､

וְשָֽׁכַבְתִּי֙

wə·šā·ḵaḇ·tî

but let me lie

עִם־

‘im-

with

､ אֲבֹתַ֔י

’ă·ḇō·ṯay,

my fathers ､

וּנְשָׂאתַ֙נִי֙

ū·nə·śā·ṯa·nî

And you shall carry me

מִמִּצְרַ֔יִם

mim·miṣ·ra·yim,

וּקְבַרְתַּ֖נִי

ū·qə·ḇar·ta·nî

and bury me

. בִּקְבֻרָתָ֑ם

biq·ḇu·rā·ṯām;

in their burial place .

､ וַיֹּאמַ֕ר

way·yō·mar

And he said ､

אָנֹכִ֖י

’ā·nō·ḵî

I

אֶֽעֱשֶׂ֥ה

’e·‘ĕ·śeh

will do

. כִדְבָרֶֽךָ׃

ḵiḏ·ḇā·re·ḵā.

as you have said .

､ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר

way·yō·mer,

And he said ､

הִשָּֽׁבְעָה֙

hiš·šā·ḇə·‘āh

. לִ֔י

lî,

to me .

וַיִּשָּׁבַ֖ע

way·yiš·šā·ḇa‘

And he swore

､ ל֑וֹ

lōw;

to him ､

וַיִּשְׁתַּ֥חוּ

way·yiš·ta·ḥū

so bowed himself

יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל

yiś·rā·’êl

עַל־

‘al-

on

רֹ֥אשׁ

rōš

the head

. הַמִּטָּֽה׃

ham·miṭ·ṭāh.

of the bed .
