Ephraim's Iniquity

כְּרָפְאִ֣י

kə·rā·p̄ə·’î

When I would have healed

､ לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל

lə·yiś·rā·’êl,

､ וְנִגְלָ֞ה

wə·niḡ·lāh

and was uncovered ､

עֲוֺ֤ן

‘ă·wōn

אֶפְרַ֙יִם֙

’ep̄·ra·yim

וְרָע֣וֹת

wə·rā·‘ō·wṯ

and the wickedness

､ שֹֽׁמְר֔וֹן

šō·mə·rō·wn,

of Samaria ､

כִּ֥י

kî

פָעֲל֖וּ

p̄ā·‘ă·lū

they have committed

– שָׁ֑קֶר

šā·qer;

וְגַנָּ֣ב

wə·ḡan·nāḇ

and a thief

､ יָב֔וֹא

yā·ḇō·w,

comes in ､

פָּשַׁ֥ט

pā·šaṭ

גְּד֖וּד

gə·ḏūḏ

a band of [robbers]

. בַּחֽוּץ׃

ba·ḥūṣ.

וּבַל־

ū·ḇal-

And not

יֹֽאמְרוּ֙

yō·mə·rū

they do consider

לִלְבָבָ֔ם

lil·ḇā·ḇām,

in their hearts

כָּל־

kāl-

– רָעָתָ֖ם

rā·‘ā·ṯām

their wickedness –

זָכָ֑רְתִּי

zā·ḵā·rə·tî;

[That] I remember

עַתָּה֙

‘at·tāh

– סְבָב֣וּם

sə·ḇā·ḇūm

have surrounded them –

מַֽעַלְלֵיהֶ֔ם

ma·‘al·lê·hem,

their own deeds

נֶ֥גֶד

ne·ḡeḏ

פָּנַ֖י

pā·nay

. הָיֽוּ׃

hā·yū.

､ בְּרָעָתָ֖ם

bə·rā·‘ā·ṯām

With their wickedness ､

יְשַׂמְּחוּ־

yə·śam·mə·ḥū-

מֶ֑לֶךְ

me·leḵ;

וּבְכַחֲשֵׁיהֶ֖ם

ū·ḇə·ḵa·ḥă·šê·hem

and with their lies

. שָׂרִֽים׃

śā·rîm.

כֻּלָּם֙

kul·lām

､ מְנָ֣אֲפִ֔ים

mə·nā·’ă·p̄îm,

כְּמ֣וֹ

kə·mōw

תַנּ֔וּר

ṯan·nūr,

בֹּעֵ֖רָה

bō·‘ê·rāh

､ מֵֽאֹפֶ֑ה

mê·’ō·p̄eh;

by a baker ､

יִשְׁבּ֣וֹת

yiš·bō·wṯ

מֵעִ֔יר

mê·‘îr,

stirring [the fire]

מִלּ֥וּשׁ

mil·lūš

､ בָּצֵ֖ק

bā·ṣêq

the dough ､

עַד־

‘aḏ-

. חֻמְצָתֽוֹ׃

ḥum·ṣā·ṯōw.

it is leavened .

י֣וֹם

yō·wm

In the day

מַלְכֵּ֔נוּ

mal·kê·nū,

הֶחֱל֥וּ

he·ḥĕ·lū

have made [him] sick

שָׂרִ֖ים

śā·rîm

חֲמַ֣ת

ḥă·maṯ

– מִיָּ֑יִן

mî·yā·yin;

with wine –

מָשַׁ֥ךְ

mā·šaḵ

He stretched out

יָד֖וֹ

yā·ḏōw

אֶת־

’eṯ-

with

. לֹצְצִֽים׃

lō·ṣə·ṣîm.

כִּֽי־

kî-

קֵרְב֧וּ

qê·rə·ḇū

､ כַתַּנּ֛וּר

ḵat·tan·nūr

like an oven ､

לִבָּ֖ם

lib·bām

– בְּאָרְבָּ֑ם

bə·’ā·rə·bām;

while they lie in wait –

כָּל־

kāl-

– הַלַּ֙יְלָה֙

hal·lay·lāh

יָשֵׁ֣ן

yā·šên

אֹֽפֵהֶ֔ם

’ō·p̄ê·hem,

בֹּ֕קֶר

bō·qer

in the morning

ה֥וּא

hū

it

בֹעֵ֖ר

ḇō·‘êr

כְּאֵ֥שׁ

kə·’êš

. לֶהָבָֽה׃

le·hā·ḇāh.

כֻּלָּ֤ם

kul·lām

יֵחַ֙מּוּ֙

yê·ḥam·mū

､ כַּתַּנּ֔וּר

kat·tan·nūr,

like an oven ､

וְאָכְל֖וּ

wə·’ā·ḵə·lū

and have devoured

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

– שֹֽׁפְטֵיהֶ֑ם

šō·p̄ə·ṭê·hem;

their judges –

כָּל־

kāl-

מַלְכֵיהֶ֣ם

mal·ḵê·hem

. נָפָ֔לוּ

nā·p̄ā·lū,

אֵין־

’ên-

קֹרֵ֥א

qō·rê

בָהֶ֖ם

ḇā·hem

. אֵלָֽי׃

’ê·lāy.

upon Me .

､ אֶפְרַ֕יִם

’ep̄·ra·yim

– בָּעַמִּ֖ים

bā·‘am·mîm

among the peoples –

ה֣וּא

hū

he

יִתְבּוֹלָ֑ל

yiṯ·bō·w·lāl;

אֶפְרַ֛יִם

’ep̄·ra·yim

הָיָ֥ה

hā·yāh

is

עֻגָ֖ה

‘u·ḡāh

בְּלִ֥י

bə·lî

not

. הֲפוּכָֽה׃

hă·p̄ū·ḵāh.

אָכְל֤וּ

’ā·ḵə·lū

זָרִים֙

zā·rîm

､ כֹּח֔וֹ

kō·ḥōw,

his strength ､

וְה֖וּא

wə·hū

but he

– לֹ֣א

lō

not –

יָדָ֑ע

yā·ḏā‘;

､ גַּם־

gam-

Yes ､

שֵׂיבָה֙

śê·ḇāh

זָ֣רְקָה

zā·rə·qāh

are here and there

בּ֔וֹ

bōw,

on him

וְה֖וּא

wə·hū

and yet he

לֹ֥א

lō

not

. יָדָֽע׃

yā·ḏā‘.

does know [it] .

וְעָנָ֥ה

wə·‘ā·nāh

גְאֽוֹן־

ḡə·’ō·wn-

יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל

yiś·rā·’êl

– בְּפָנָ֑יו

bə·p̄ā·nāw;

to his face –

וְלֹֽא־

wə·lō-

but not

שָׁ֙בוּ֙

šā·ḇū

אֶל־

’el-

to

יְהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

､ אֱלֹֽהֵיהֶ֔ם

’ĕ·lō·hê·hem,

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

בִקְשֻׁ֖הוּ

ḇiq·šu·hū

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

. זֹֽאת׃

zōṯ.

וַיְהִ֣י

way·hî

And is

אֶפְרַ֔יִם

’ep̄·ra·yim,

כְּיוֹנָ֥ה

kə·yō·w·nāh

פוֹתָ֖ה

p̄ō·w·ṯāh

אֵ֣ין

’ên

– לֵ֑ב

lêḇ;

､ מִצְרַ֥יִם

miṣ·ra·yim

to Egypt ､

קָרָ֖אוּ

qā·rā·’ū

אַשּׁ֥וּר

’aš·šūr

. הָלָֽכוּ׃

hā·lā·ḵū.

they go .

כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר

ka·’ă·šer

､ יֵלֵ֗כוּ

yê·lê·ḵū,

they go ､

אֶפְר֤וֹשׂ

’ep̄·rō·wś

I will spread

עֲלֵיהֶם֙

‘ă·lê·hem

רִשְׁתִּ֔י

riš·tî,

My net

כְּע֥וֹף

kə·‘ō·wp̄

– הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם

haš·šā·ma·yim

of the air –

אֽוֹרִידֵ֑ם

’ō·w·rî·ḏêm;

I will bring them down

אַיְסִרֵ֕ם

’ay·si·rêm

I will chastise them

כְּשֵׁ֖מַע

kə·šê·ma‘

According to what has heard

. לַעֲדָתָֽם׃

la·‘ă·ḏā·ṯām.

their congregation .

כִּֽי־

נָדְד֣וּ

מִמֶּ֔נִּי

mim·men·nî,

שֹׁ֥ד

לָהֶ֖ם

כִּֽי־

kî-

פָ֣שְׁעוּ

p̄ā·šə·‘ū

they have transgressed

בִ֑י

ḇî;

וְאָנֹכִ֣י

wə·’ā·nō·ḵî

and Though I

אֶפְדֵּ֔ם

’ep̄·dêm,

וְהֵ֕מָּה

wə·hêm·māh

דִּבְּר֥וּ

dib·bə·rū

עָלַ֖י

‘ā·lay

. כְּזָבִֽים׃

kə·zā·ḇîm.

וְלֹֽא־

wə·lō-

And not

זָעֲק֤וּ

zā·‘ă·qū

they did cry out

אֵלַי֙

’ê·lay

to Me

､ בְּלִבָּ֔ם

bə·lib·bām,

with their heart ､

כִּ֥י

kî

יְיֵלִ֖ילוּ

yə·yê·lî·lū

עַל־

‘al-

– מִשְׁכְּבוֹתָ֑ם

miš·kə·ḇō·w·ṯām;

עַל־

‘al-

דָּגָ֧ן

dā·ḡān

､ וְתִיר֛וֹשׁ

wə·ṯî·rō·wōš

and new wine ､

יִתְגּוֹרָ֖רוּ

yiṯ·gō·w·rā·rū

they assemble together

יָס֥וּרוּ

yā·sū·rū

. בִֽי׃

ḇî.

וַאֲנִ֣י

wa·’ă·nî

And Though I

יִסַּ֔רְתִּי

yis·sar·tî,

חִזַּ֖קְתִּי

ḥiz·zaq·tî

[and] strengthened

､ זְרֽוֹעֹתָ֑ם

zə·rō·w·‘ō·ṯām;

וְאֵלַ֖י

wə·’ê·lay

and yet against Me

יְחַשְּׁבוּ־

yə·ḥaš·šə·ḇū-

. רָֽע׃

rā‘.

､ יָשׁ֣וּבוּ ׀

yā·šū·ḇū

They return ､

לֹ֣א

lō

[but] not

､ עָ֗ל

‘āl,

to the Most High ､

הָיוּ֙

hā·yū

– כְּקֶ֣שֶׁת

kə·qe·šeṯ

like a bow –

רְמִיָּ֔ה

rə·mî·yāh,

יִפְּל֥וּ

yip·pə·lū

בַחֶ֛רֶב

ḇa·ḥe·reḇ

by the sword

שָׂרֵיהֶ֖ם

śā·rê·hem

מִזַּ֣עַם

miz·za·‘am

for the cursings

. לְשׁוֹנָ֑ם

lə·šō·w·nām;

of their tongue .

ז֥וֹ

zōw

This [shall be]

לַעְגָּ֖ם

la‘·gām

בְּאֶ֥רֶץ

bə·’e·reṣ

in the land

. מִצְרָֽיִם׃

miṣ·rā·yim.

of Egypt .
