God's Judgments on the Nations

､ קִרְב֤וּ
qir·ḇū
､ גוֹיִם֙
ḡō·w·yim
– לִשְׁמֹ֔עַ
liš·mō·a‘,
to hear –
! וּלְאֻמִּ֖ים
ū·lə·’um·mîm
and you people !
､ הַקְשִׁ֑יבוּ
haq·šî·ḇū;
heed ､
､ תִּשְׁמַ֤ע
tiš·ma‘
let hear ､
הָאָ֙רֶץ֙
hā·’ā·reṣ
the earth
– וּמְלֹאָ֔הּ
ū·mə·lō·’āh,
and all that is in it –
､ תֵּבֵ֖ל
tê·ḇêl
the world ､
וְכָל־
wə·ḵāl
and all [things]
. צֶאֱצָאֶֽיהָ׃
ṣe·’ĕ·ṣā·’e·hā.

כִּ֣י
kî
קֶ֤צֶף
qe·ṣep̄
the indignation [is]
לַֽיהוָה֙
Yah·weh
עַל־
‘al-
כָּל־
kāl-
､ הַגּוֹיִ֔ם
hag·gō·w·yim,
וְחֵמָ֖ה
wə·ḥê·māh
and [His] fury
עַל־
‘al-
כָּל־
kāl-
– צְבָאָ֑ם
ṣə·ḇā·’ām;
הֶחֱרִימָ֖ם
he·ḥĕ·rî·mām
נְתָנָ֥ם
nə·ṯā·nām
. לַטָּֽבַח׃
laṭ·ṭā·ḇaḥ.
to the slaughter .

וְחַלְלֵיהֶ֣ם
wə·ḥal·lê·hem
､ יֻשְׁלָ֔כוּ
yuš·lā·ḵū,
､ וּפִגְרֵיהֶ֖ם
ū·p̄iḡ·rê·hem
יַעֲלֶ֣ה
ya·‘ă·leh
בָאְשָׁ֑ם
ḇā·’ə·šām;
וְנָמַ֥סּוּ
wə·nā·mas·sū
and shall be melted
הָרִ֖ים
hā·rîm
. מִדָּמָֽם׃
mid·dā·mām.
with their blood .

､ וְנָמַ֙קּוּ֙
wə·nā·maq·qū
And shall be dissolved ､
כָּל־
kāl-
צְבָ֣א
ṣə·ḇā
the host
הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם
haš·šā·ma·yim,
וְנָגֹ֥לּוּ
wə·nā·ḡōl·lū
and shall be rolled up
– כַסֵּ֖פֶר
ḵas·sê·p̄er
like a scroll –
הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם
haš·šā·mā·yim;
וְכָל־
wə·ḵāl
and all
צְבָאָ֣ם
ṣə·ḇā·’ām
､ יִבּ֔וֹל
yib·bō·wl,
כִּנְבֹ֤ל
kin·ḇōl
עָלֶה֙
‘ā·leh
the leaf
､ מִגֶּ֔פֶן
mig·ge·p̄en,
from the vine ､
וּכְנֹבֶ֖לֶת
ū·ḵə·nō·ḇe·leṯ
and as [fruit] falling
. מִתְּאֵנָֽה׃
mit·tə·’ê·nāh.

רִוְּתָ֥ה
riw·wə·ṯāh
､ בַשָּׁמַ֖יִם
ḇaš·šā·ma·yim
in heaven ､
חַרְבִּ֑י
ḥar·bî;
､ הִנֵּה֙
hin·nêh
indeed ､
עַל־
‘al-
on
､ אֱד֣וֹם
’ĕ·ḏō·wm
Edom ､
תֵּרֵ֔ד
tê·rêḏ,
וְעַל־
wə·‘al-
and on
עַ֥ם
‘am
the people
､ חֶרְמִ֖י
ḥer·mî
of My curse ､
. לְמִשְׁפָּֽט׃
lə·miš·pāṭ.

חֶ֣רֶב
ḥe·reḇ
The sword
לַיהוָ֞ה
Yah·weh
מָלְאָ֥ה
mā·lə·’āh
､ דָם֙
ḏām
with blood ､
הֻדַּ֣שְׁנָה
hud·daš·nāh
､ מֵחֵ֔לֶב
mê·ḥê·leḇ,
with fatness ､
מִדַּ֤ם
mid·dam
with the blood
כָּרִים֙
kā·rîm
､ וְעַתּוּדִ֔ים
wə·‘at·tū·ḏîm,
and goats ､
מֵחֵ֖לֶב
mê·ḥê·leḇ
with the fat
כִּלְי֣וֹת
kil·yō·wṯ
of the kidneys
. אֵילִ֑ים
’ê·lîm;
of rams .
כִּ֣י
kî
זֶ֤בַח
ze·ḇaḥ
לַֽיהוָה֙
Yah·weh
､ בְּבָצְרָ֔ה
bə·ḇā·ṣə·rāh,
in Bozrah ､
וְטֶ֥בַח
wə·ṭe·ḇaḥ
and a slaughter
גָּד֖וֹל
gā·ḏō·wl
בְּאֶ֥רֶץ
bə·’e·reṣ
in the land
. אֱדֽוֹם׃
’ĕ·ḏō·wm.
of Edom .

וְיָרְד֤וּ
wə·yā·rə·ḏū
רְאֵמִים֙
rə·’ê·mîm
עִמָּ֔ם
‘im·mām,
with them
וּפָרִ֖ים
ū·p̄ā·rîm
and the young bulls
עִם־
‘im-
with
– אַבִּירִ֑ים
’ab·bî·rîm;
the mighty [bulls] –
וְרִוְּתָ֤ה
wə·riw·wə·ṯāh
and shall be soaked
אַרְצָם֙
’ar·ṣām
､ מִדָּ֔ם
mid·dām,
with blood ､
וַעֲפָרָ֖ם
wa·‘ă·p̄ā·rām
מֵחֵ֥לֶב
mê·ḥê·leḇ
with fatness
. יְדֻשָּֽׁן׃
yə·ḏuš·šān.

כִּ֛י
kî
י֥וֹם
yō·wm
[it is] the day
､ נָקָ֖ם
nā·qām
לַֽיהוָ֑ה
Yah·weh;
שְׁנַ֥ת
šə·naṯ
the year
שִׁלּוּמִ֖ים
šil·lū·mîm
לְרִ֥יב
lə·rîḇ
. צִיּֽוֹן׃
ṣî·yō·wn.
of Zion .
9
וְנֶהֶפְכ֤וּ
wə·ne·hep̄·ḵū
And shall be turned
נְחָלֶ֙יהָ֙
nə·ḥā·le·hā
､ לְזֶ֔פֶת
lə·ze·p̄eṯ,
וַעֲפָרָ֖הּ
wa·‘ă·p̄ā·rāh
and its dust
､ לְגָפְרִ֑ית
lə·ḡā·p̄ə·rîṯ;
וְהָיְתָ֣ה
wə·hā·yə·ṯāh
אַרְצָ֔הּ
’ar·ṣāh,
לְזֶ֖פֶת
lə·ze·p̄eṯ
. בֹּעֵרָֽה׃
bō·‘ê·rāh.

לַ֤יְלָה
lay·lāh
– וְיוֹמָם֙
wə·yō·w·mām
or day –
לֹ֣א
lō
not
תִכְבֶּ֔ה
ṯiḵ·beh,
. לְעוֹלָ֖ם
lə·‘ō·w·lām
יַעֲלֶ֣ה
ya·‘ă·leh
עֲשָׁנָ֑הּ
‘ă·šā·nāh;
מִדּ֤וֹר
mid·dō·wr
לָדוֹר֙
lā·ḏō·wr
– תֶּחֱרָ֔ב
te·ḥĕ·rāḇ,
it shall lie waste –
לְנֵ֣צַח
lə·nê·ṣaḥ
. נְצָחִ֔ים
nə·ṣā·ḥîm,
and ever .
אֵ֥ין
’ên
עֹבֵ֖ר
‘ō·ḇêr
. בָּֽהּ׃
bāh.
through it .
11
וִירֵשׁ֙וּהָ֙
wî·rê·šū·hā
But shall possess it
קָאַ֣ת
qā·’aṯ
וְקִפּ֔וֹד
wə·qip·pō·wḏ,
and the porcupine
וְיַנְשׁ֥וֹף
wə·yan·šō·wp̄
and the owl
וְעֹרֵ֖ב
wə·‘ō·rêḇ
and the raven
יִשְׁכְּנוּ־
yiš·kə·nū-
בָ֑הּ
ḇāh;
in it
וְנָטָ֥ה
wə·nā·ṭāh
עָלֶ֛יהָ
‘ā·le·hā
over it
קַֽו־
qaw-
the line
､ תֹ֖הוּ
ṯō·hū
of confusion ､
וְאַבְנֵי־
wə·’aḇ·nê-
and the stones
. בֹֽהוּ׃
ḇō·hū.

חֹרֶ֥יהָ
ḥō·re·hā
וְאֵֽין־
wə·’ên-
but none [shall be]
､ שָׁ֖ם
šām
there ､
､ מְלוּכָ֣ה
mə·lū·ḵāh
to the kingdom ､
יִקְרָ֑אוּ
yiq·rā·’ū;
וְכָל־
wə·ḵāl
and all
שָׂרֶ֖יהָ
śā·re·hā
יִ֥הְיוּ
yih·yū
. אָֽפֶס׃
’ā·p̄es.
13
וְעָלְתָ֤ה
wə·‘ā·lə·ṯāh
And shall come up
､ אַרְמְנֹתֶ֙יהָ֙
’ar·mə·nō·ṯe·hā
in its palaces ､
סִירִ֔ים
sî·rîm,
קִמּ֥וֹשׂ
qim·mō·wś
וָח֖וֹחַ
wā·ḥō·w·aḥ
בְּמִבְצָרֶ֑יהָ
bə·miḇ·ṣā·re·hā;
וְהָיְתָה֙
wə·hā·yə·ṯāh
and it shall be
נְוֵ֣ה
nə·wêh
תַנִּ֔ים
ṯan·nîm,
חָצִ֖יר
ḥā·ṣîr
לִבְנ֥וֹת
liḇ·nō·wṯ
. יַעֲנָֽה׃
ya·‘ă·nāh.
14
וּפָגְשׁ֤וּ
ū·p̄ā·ḡə·šū
צִיִּים֙
ṣî·yîm
the wild beasts of the desert
אֶת־
’eṯ-
with
､ אִיִּ֔ים
’î·yîm,
the jackals ､
וְשָׂעִ֖יר
wə·śā·‘îr
and the wild goat
עַל־
‘al-
to
– רֵעֵ֣הוּ
rê·‘ê·hū
יִקְרָ֑א
yiq·rā;
אַךְ־
’aḵ-
､ שָׁם֙
šām
there ､
הִרְגִּ֣יעָה
hir·gî·‘āh
לִּילִ֔ית
lî·lîṯ,
וּמָצְאָ֥ה
ū·mā·ṣə·’āh
and find
לָ֖הּ
lāh
. מָנֽוֹחַ׃
mā·nō·w·aḥ.
a place of rest .

שָׁ֣מָּה
šām·māh
､ קִנְּנָ֤ה
qin·nə·nāh
קִפּוֹז֙
qip·pō·wz
､ וַתְּמַלֵּ֔ט
wat·tə·mal·lêṭ,
and lay [eggs] ､
､ וּבָקְעָ֖ה
ū·ḇā·qə·‘āh
and hatch ､
וְדָגְרָ֣ה
wə·ḏā·ḡə·rāh
and gather [them]
. בְצִלָּ֑הּ
ḇə·ṣil·lāh;
אַךְ־
’aḵ-
שָׁ֛ם
šām
､ נִקְבְּצ֥וּ
niq·bə·ṣū
דַיּ֖וֹת
ḏay·yō·wṯ
the hawks
אִשָּׁ֥ה
’iš·šāh
. רְעוּתָֽהּ׃
rə·‘ū·ṯāh.
with her mate .

דִּרְשׁ֨וּ
dir·šū
מֵֽעַל־
mê·‘al-
סֵ֤פֶר
sê·p̄er
the book
､ יְהוָה֙
Yah·weh
of Yahweh ､
– וּֽקְרָ֔אוּ

and read –

מֵהֵ֙נָּה֙

the lot
וְיָד֛וֹ
wə·yā·ḏōw
and His hand
חִלְּקַ֥תָּה
ḥil·lə·qat·tāh
לָהֶ֖ם
lā·hem
. בַּקָּ֑ו
baq·qāw;
with a measuring line .
עַד־
‘aḏ-
It for
､ עוֹלָם֙
‘ō·w·lām
ever ､
יִֽירָשׁ֔וּהָ

לְד֥וֹר
