You are My Servant

､ שִׁמְע֤וּ

šim·‘ū

､ אִיִּים֙

’î·yîm

אֵלַ֔י

’ê·lay,

to Me

､ וְהַקְשִׁ֥יבוּ

wə·haq·šî·ḇū

and take heed ､

､ לְאֻמִּ֖ים

lə·’um·mîm

you peoples ､

– מֵרָח֑וֹק

mê·rā·ḥō·wq;

יְהוָה֙

Yah·weh

– מִבֶּ֣טֶן

mib·be·ṭen

from the womb –

קְרָאָ֔נִי

qə·rā·’ā·nî,

מִמְּעֵ֥י

mim·mə·‘ê

from the matrix

אִמִּ֖י

’im·mî

of My mother

הִזְכִּ֥יר

hiz·kîr

He has made mention

. שְׁמִֽי׃

šə·mî.

of My name .

וַיָּ֤שֶׂם

way·yā·śem

And He has made

פִּי֙

pî

– כְּחֶ֣רֶב

kə·ḥe·reḇ

like a sword –

חַדָּ֔ה

ḥad·dāh,

בְּצֵ֥ל

bə·ṣêl

in the shadow

יָד֖וֹ

yā·ḏōw

הֶחְבִּיאָ֑נִי

heḥ·bî·’ā·nî;

He has hidden He

וַיְשִׂימֵ֙נִי֙

way·śî·mê·nî

and made Me

– לְחֵ֣ץ

lə·ḥêṣ

a shaft –

בָּר֔וּר

bā·rūr,

בְּאַשְׁפָּת֖וֹ

bə·’aš·pā·ṯōw

. הִסְתִּירָֽנִי׃

his·tî·rā·nî.

He has hidden Me .

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And He said

לִ֖י

lî

to me

､ עַבְדִּי־

‘aḇ·dî-

My servant ､

אָ֑תָּה

’āt·tāh;

､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֕ל

yiś·rā·’êl

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

בְּךָ֖

bə·ḵā

. אֶתְפָּאָֽר׃

’eṯ·pā·’ār.

I will be glorified .

וַאֲנִ֤י

wa·’ă·nî

And I

､ אָמַ֙רְתִּי֙

’ā·mar·tî

said ､

､ לְרִ֣יק

lə·rîq

in vain ､

יָגַ֔עְתִּי

yā·ḡa‘·tî,

､ לְתֹ֥הוּ

lə·ṯō·hū

for nothing ､

– וְהֶ֖בֶל

wə·he·ḇel

and in vain –

כֹּחִ֣י

kō·ḥî

כִלֵּ֑יתִי

ḵil·lê·ṯî;

אָכֵן֙

’ā·ḵên

מִשְׁפָּטִ֣י

miš·pā·ṭî

my just reward [is]

אֶת־

’eṯ-

with

､ יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

וּפְעֻלָּתִ֖י

ū·p̄ə·‘ul·lā·ṯî

and my work

אֶת־

’eṯ-

with

. אֱלֹהָֽי׃

’ĕ·lō·hāy.

my God .

､ וְעַתָּ֣ה ׀

wə·‘at·tāh

Now ､

אָמַ֣ר

’ā·mar

יְהוָ֗ה

Yah·weh

יֹצְרִ֤י

yō·ṣə·rî

מִבֶּ֙טֶן֙

mib·be·ṭen

､ לְעֶ֣בֶד

lə·‘e·ḇeḏ

[to be] Servant ､

ל֔וֹ

lōw,

לְשׁוֹבֵ֤ב

lə·šō·w·ḇêḇ

יַֽעֲקֹב֙

ya·‘ă·qōḇ

אֵלָ֔יו

’ê·lāw,

to Him

וְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל

wə·yiś·rā·’êl

[לא]

lō

-

(ל֣וֹ)

lōw

to Him

､ יֵאָסֵ֑ף

yê·’ā·sêp̄;

is gathered ､

וְאֶכָּבֵד֙

wə·’ek·kā·ḇêḏ

for I shall be glorious

בְּעֵינֵ֣י

bə·‘ê·nê

in the eyes

יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

וֵאלֹהַ֖י

wê·lō·hay

and My God

הָיָ֥ה

hā·yāh

. עֻזִּֽי׃

‘uz·zî.

､ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר

way·yō·mer,

And indeed He says ､

נָקֵ֨ל

nā·qêl

it is too small a thing

מִֽהְיוֹתְךָ֥

mih·yō·wṯ·ḵā

that You should be

לִי֙

lî

My

עֶ֔בֶד

‘e·ḇeḏ,

לְהָקִים֙

lə·hā·qîm

to raise up

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

שִׁבְטֵ֣י

šiḇ·ṭê

､ יַעֲקֹ֔ב

ya·‘ă·qōḇ,

of Jacob ､

[ונצירי]

ū·nə·ṣî·rê

-

(וּנְצוּרֵ֥י)

ū·nə·ṣū·rê

and the preserved ones of

– יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל

yiś·rā·’êl

לְהָשִׁ֑יב

lə·hā·šîḇ;

וּנְתַתִּ֙יךָ֙

ū·nə·ṯat·tî·ḵā

and I will give You

לְא֣וֹר

lə·’ō·wr

as a light to

､ גּוֹיִ֔ם

gō·w·yim,

the Gentiles ､

לִֽהְי֥וֹת

lih·yō·wṯ

that You should be

יְשׁוּעָתִ֖י

yə·šū·‘ā·ṯî

עַד־

‘aḏ-

to

קְצֵ֥ה

qə·ṣêh

the ends

. הָאָֽרֶץ׃

hā·’ā·reṣ.

of the earth .

their Holy one ､

､ לִבְזֹה־

to Him whom man despises ､

נֶ֜פֶשׁ

ne·p̄eš

､ לִמְתָ֤עֵֽב

lim·ṯā·‘êḇ

to Him whom abhors ､

גּוֹי֙

gō·w

לְעֶ֣בֶד

lə·‘e·ḇeḏ

to the Servant

､ מֹשְׁלִ֔ים

mō·šə·lîm,

of rulers ､

מְלָכִים֙

mə·lā·ḵîm

יִרְא֣וּ

yir·’ū

､ וָקָ֔מוּ

wā·qā·mū,

and arise ､

שָׂרִ֖ים

śā·rîm

､ וְיִֽשְׁתַּחֲוּ֑וּ‪‬

wə·yiš·ta·ḥăw·wū;

and shall worship ､

לְמַ֤עַן

lə·ma·‘an

יְהוָה֙

Yah·weh

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

､ נֶאֱמָ֔ן

ne·’ĕ·mān,

is faithful ､

קְדֹ֥שׁ

qə·ḏōš

､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל

yiś·rā·’êl

of Israel ､

. וַיִּבְחָרֶֽךָּ׃

way·yiḇ·ḥā·re·kā.

and He has chosen You .

The Restoration of Israel

כֹּ֣ה ׀

אָמַ֣ר

’ā·mar

､ יְהוָ֗ה

Yah·weh

בְּעֵ֤ת

bə·‘êṯ

רָצוֹן֙

rā·ṣō·wn

עֲנִיתִ֔יךָ

‘ă·nî·ṯî·ḵā,

I have heard You

וּבְי֥וֹם

ū·ḇə·yō·wm

and in the day

יְשׁוּעָ֖ה

yə·šū·‘āh

עֲזַרְתִּ֑יךָ

‘ă·zar·tî·ḵā;

I have helped You

וְאֶצָּרְךָ֗

wə·’eṣ·ṣā·rə·ḵā,

and I will preserve You

וְאֶתֶּנְךָ֙

wə·’et·ten·ḵā

לִבְרִ֣ית

liḇ·rîṯ

as a covenant to

､ עָ֔ם

‘ām,

the people ､

לְהָקִ֣ים

lə·hā·qîm

､ אֶ֔רֶץ

’e·reṣ,

the earth ､

לְהַנְחִ֖יל

lə·han·ḥîl

to cause them to inherit

– נְחָל֥וֹת

nə·ḥā·lō·wṯ

the heritages –

. שֹׁמֵמֽוֹת׃

šō·mê·mō·wṯ.

לֵאמֹ֤ר

lê·mōr

That You may say

､ לַֽאֲסוּרִים֙

la·’ă·sū·rîm

to the prisoners ､

– צֵ֔אוּ

ṣê·’ū,

go forth –

לַאֲשֶׁ֥ר

la·’ă·šer

to those who [are]

､ בַּחֹ֖שֶׁךְ

ba·ḥō·šeḵ

in darkness ､

. הִגָּל֑וּ

hig·gā·lū;

Show yourselves .

עַל־

‘al-

､ דְּרָכִ֣ים

də·rā·ḵîm

the roads ､

יִרְע֔וּ

yir·‘ū,

they shall feed

וּבְכָל־

ū·ḇə·ḵāl

and on all

שְׁפָיִ֖ים

šə·p̄ā·yîm

desolate heights

. מַרְעִיתָֽם׃

mar·‘î·ṯām.

their pastures [shall be] .

לֹ֤א

lō

יִרְעָ֙בוּ֙

yir·‘ā·ḇū

they shall hunger

וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

– יִצְמָ֔אוּ

yiṣ·mā·’ū,

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

יַכֵּ֥ם

yak·kêm

shall strike them

שָׁרָ֖ב

šā·rāḇ

וָשָׁ֑מֶשׁ

wā·šā·meš;

כִּי־

kî-

מְרַחֲמָ֣ם

mə·ra·ḥă·mām

He who has mercy on them

יְנַהֲגֵ֔ם

yə·na·hă·ḡêm,

וְעַל־

wə·‘al-

and Even by

מַבּ֥וּעֵי

mab·bū·‘ê

מַ֖יִם

ma·yim

. יְנַהֲלֵֽם׃

yə·na·hă·lêm.

He will guide them .

וְשַׂמְתִּ֥י

wə·śam·tî

And I will make

כָל־

ḵāl

הָרַ֖י

hā·ray

of My mountains

､ לַדָּ֑רֶךְ

lad·dā·reḵ;

a road ､

וּמְסִלֹּתַ֖י

ū·mə·sil·lō·ṯay

and My highways

. יְרֻמֽוּן׃

yə·ru·mūn.

shall be elevated .

､ הִנֵּה־

hin·nêh-

אֵ֕לֶּה

’êl·leh

– מֵרָח֖וֹק

mê·rā·ḥō·wq

יָבֹ֑אוּ

yā·ḇō·’ū;

､ וְהִֽנֵּה־

wə·hin·nêh-

and Look ､

אֵ֙לֶּה֙

’êl·leh

מִצָּפ֣וֹן

miṣ·ṣā·p̄ō·wn

– וּמִיָּ֔ם

ū·mî·yām,

and the west –

וְאֵ֖לֶּה

wə·’êl·leh

מֵאֶ֥רֶץ

mê·’e·reṣ

. סִינִֽים׃

sî·nîm.

of the Sinites .

､ רָנּ֤וּ

rān·nū

Sing ､

– שָׁמַ֙יִם֙

šā·ma·yim

､ וְגִ֣ילִי

wə·ḡî·lî

and Be joyful ､

– אָ֔רֶץ

’ā·reṣ,

[יפצחו]

yip̄·ṣə·ḥū

-

(וּפִצְח֥וּ)

ū·p̄iṣ·ḥū

! הָרִ֖ים

hā·rîm

､ רִנָּ֑ה

rin·nāh;

in singing ､

כִּֽי־

kî-

נִחַ֤ם

ni·ḥam

יְהוָה֙

Yah·weh

､ עַמּ֔וֹ

‘am·mōw,

וַעֲנִיָּ֖ו

wa·‘ă·nî·yāw

and on His afflicted

. יְרַחֵֽם׃

yə·ra·ḥêm.

will have mercy .

､ וַתֹּ֥אמֶר

wat·tō·mer

But said ､

צִיּ֖וֹן

ṣî·yō·wn

עֲזָבַ֣נִי

‘ă·zā·ḇa·nî

has forsaken me

יְהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

וַאדֹנָ֖י

wa·ḏō·nāy

and my Lord

. שְׁכֵחָֽנִי׃

šə·ḵê·ḥā·nî.

has forgotten me .

הֲתִשְׁכַּ֤ח

hă·ṯiš·kaḥ

אִשָּׁה֙

’iš·šāh

､ עוּלָ֔הּ

‘ū·lāh,

her nursing child ､

מֵרַחֵ֖ם

mê·ra·ḥêm

and not have compassion on

בֶּן־

ben-

the son

؟ בִּטְנָ֑הּ

biṭ·nāh;

of her womb ؟

､ גַּם־

gam-

אֵ֣לֶּה

’êl·leh

､ תִשְׁכַּ֔חְנָה

ṯiš·kaḥ·nāh,

וְאָנֹכִ֖י

wə·’ā·nō·ḵî

and yet I will

לֹ֥א

lō

not

. אֶשְׁכָּחֵֽךְ׃

’eš·kā·ḥêḵ.

､ הֵ֥ן

hên

See ､

עַל־

‘al-

on

– כַּפַּ֖יִם

kap·pa·yim

the palms [of My hands] –

חַקֹּתִ֑יךְ

ḥaq·qō·ṯîḵ;

I have inscribed you

חוֹמֹתַ֥יִךְ

ḥō·w·mō·ṯa·yiḵ

Your walls [are]

נֶגְדִּ֖י

neḡ·dî

. תָּמִֽיד׃

tā·mîḏ.

– מִֽהֲר֖וּ

mi·hă·rū

Shall make haste –

בָּנָ֑יִךְ

bā·nā·yiḵ;

מְהָֽרְסַ֥יִךְ

mə·hā·rə·sa·yiḵ

Your destroyers

וּמַחֲרִבַ֖יִךְ

ū·ma·ḥă·ri·ḇa·yiḵ

and those who laid you waste

מִמֵּ֥ךְ

mim·mêḵ

. יֵצֵֽאוּ׃

yê·ṣê·’ū.

shall go away .

שְׂאִֽי־

śə·’î-

､ סָבִ֤יב

sā·ḇîḇ

look around ､

עֵינַ֙יִךְ֙

‘ê·na·yiḵ

– וּרְאִ֔י

ū·rə·’î,

and see –

כֻּלָּ֖ם

kul·lām

､ נִקְבְּצ֣וּ

niq·bə·ṣū

gather together ､

בָֽאוּ־

ḇā·’ū-

[and] come

לָ֑ךְ

lāḵ;

to you

､ חַי־

ḥay-

[As] live ､

אָ֣נִי

’ā·nî

I

נְאֻם־

nə·’um-

､ יְהוָ֗ה

Yah·weh

כִּ֤י

kî

､ כֻלָּם֙

ḵul·lām

with them all ､

､ כָּעֲדִ֣י

kā·‘ă·ḏî

as an ornament ､

תִלְבָּ֔שִׁי

ṯil·bā·šî,

You shall clothe yourselves

וּֽתְקַשְּׁרִ֖ים

ū·ṯə·qaš·šə·rîm

and bind them [on you]

. כַּכַּלָּֽה׃

kak·kal·lāh.

as a bride [does] .

כִּ֤י

kî

חָרְבֹתַ֙יִךְ֙

ḥā·rə·ḇō·ṯa·yiḵ

､ וְשֹׁ֣מְמֹתַ֔יִךְ

wə·šō·mə·mō·ṯa·yiḵ,

and desolate places ､

וְאֶ֖רֶץ

wə·’e·reṣ

and the land

､ הֲרִֽסֻתֵ֑יךְ

hă·ri·su·ṯêḵ;

of your destruction ､

כִּ֤י

kî

עַתָּה֙

‘at·tāh

תֵּצְרִ֣י

tê·ṣə·rî

will be too small

､ מִיּוֹשֵׁ֔ב

mî·yō·wō·šêḇ,

for the inhabitants ､

וְרָחֲק֖וּ

wə·rā·ḥă·qū

and will be far away

. מְבַלְּעָֽיִךְ׃

mə·ḇal·lə·‘ā·yiḵ.

those who swallowed you up .

ע֚וֹד

‘ō·wḏ

יֹאמְר֣וּ

yō·mə·rū

will say

､ בְאָזְנַ֔יִךְ

ḇə·’ā·zə·na·yiḵ,

in your ears ､

בְּנֵ֖י

bə·nê

the sons

､ שִׁכֻּלָ֑יִךְ

šik·ku·lā·yiḵ;

you will have after you have lost the others ､

צַר־

ṣar-

לִ֥י

lî

for me

הַמָּק֖וֹם

ham·mā·qō·wm

the place [is]

גְּשָׁה־

gə·šāh-

לִּ֥י

lî

me

. וְאֵשֵֽׁבָה׃

wə·’ê·šê·ḇāh.

and where I may dwell .

וְאָמַ֣רְתְּ

wə·’ā·mart

And you will say

､ בִּלְבָבֵ֗ךְ

bil·ḇā·ḇêḵ,

in your heart ､

מִ֤י

mî

יָֽלַד־

yā·laḏ-

לִי֙

lî

for me

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ אֵ֔לֶּה

’êl·leh,

וַאֲנִ֥י

wa·’ă·nî

שְׁכוּלָ֖ה

šə·ḵū·lāh

have lost my children

､ וְגַלְמוּדָ֑ה

wə·ḡal·mū·ḏāh;

and am barren ､

גֹּלָ֣ה ׀

gō·lāh

؟ וְסוּרָ֗ה

wə·sū·rāh,

and wandering to and fro ؟

؟ וְאֵ֙לֶּה֙

wə·’êl·leh

and these ؟

מִ֣י

mî

גִדֵּ֔ל

ḡid·dêl,

､ הֵ֤ן

hên

אֲנִי֙

’ă·nî

I

נִשְׁאַ֣רְתִּי

niš·’ar·tî

– לְבַדִּ֔י

lə·ḇad·dî,

､ אֵ֖לֶּה

’êl·leh

[But] these ､

אֵיפֹ֥ה

’ê·p̄ōh

. הֵֽם׃

hêm.

כֹּֽה־

kōh-

אָמַ֞ר

’ā·mar

אֲדֹנָ֣י

’ă·ḏō·nāy

the Lord

､ יְהוִ֗ה

Yah·weh

GOD ､

､ הִנֵּ֨ה

hin·nêh

אֶשָּׂ֤א

’eś·śā

I will lift in an oath

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ גּוֹיִם֙

gō·w·yim

the nations ､

יָדִ֔י

yā·ḏî,

וְאֶל־

wə·’el-

and for

– עַמִּ֖ים

‘am·mîm

the peoples –

אָרִ֣ים

’ā·rîm

set up

נִסִּ֑י

nis·sî;

וְהֵבִ֤יאוּ

wə·hê·ḇî·’ū

and they shall bring

בָנַ֙יִךְ֙

ḇā·na·yiḵ

､ בְּחֹ֔צֶן

bə·ḥō·ṣen,

in [their] arms ､

וּבְנֹתַ֖יִךְ

ū·ḇə·nō·ṯa·yiḵ

and your daughters

עַל־

‘al-

on

כָּתֵ֥ף

kā·ṯêp̄

[their] shoulders

. תִּנָּשֶֽׂאנָה׃

tin·nā·śe·nāh.

shall be carried .

וְהָי֨וּ

wə·hā·yū

And shall be

מְלָכִ֜ים

mə·lā·ḵîm

､ אֹֽמְנַ֗יִךְ

’ō·mə·na·yiḵ,

your foster fathers ､

וְשָׂרֽוֹתֵיהֶם֙

wə·śā·rō·w·ṯê·hem

and their queens

. מֵינִ֣יקֹתַ֔יִךְ

mê·nî·qō·ṯa·yiḵ,

your nursing mothers .

אַפַּ֗יִם

’ap·pa·yim,

With [their] faces

､ אֶ֚רֶץ

’e·reṣ

to the earth ､

יִשְׁתַּ֣חֲווּ

yiš·ta·ḥă·wū

they shall bow down

לָ֔ךְ

lāḵ,

to you

וַעֲפַ֥ר

wa·‘ă·p̄ar

and the dust

– רַגְלַ֖יִךְ

raḡ·la·yiḵ

of your feet –

יְלַחֵ֑כוּ

yə·la·ḥê·ḵū;

וְיָדַ֙עַתְּ֙

wə·yā·ḏa·‘at

and you will know

כִּֽי־

kî-

אֲנִ֣י

’ă·nî

I [am]

– יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

לֹֽא־

lō-

not

יֵבֹ֖שׁוּ

yê·ḇō·šū

they shall be ashamed

. קוָֹֽי׃

qō·wāy.

who wait for Me .

הֲיֻקַּ֥ח

hă·yuq·qaḥ

､ מִגִּבּ֖וֹר

mig·gib·bō·wr

from the mighty ､

מַלְק֑וֹחַ

mal·qō·w·aḥ;

the prey

וְאִם־

wə·’im-

Or

שְׁבִ֥י

šə·ḇî

צַדִּ֖יק

ṣad·dîq

of the righteous

؟ יִמָּלֵֽט׃

yim·mā·lêṭ.

be delivered ؟

כִּי־

kî-

but

כֹ֣ה ׀

ḵōh

אָמַ֣ר

’ā·mar

､ יְהוָ֗ה

Yah·weh

גַּם־

gam-

שְׁבִ֤י

šə·ḇî

גִבּוֹר֙

ḡib·bō·wr

of the mighty

､ יֻקָּ֔ח

yuq·qāḥ,

shall be taken away ､

וּמַלְק֥וֹחַ

ū·mal·qō·w·aḥ

and the prey

עָרִ֖יץ

‘ā·rîṣ

of the terrible

– יִמָּלֵ֑ט

yim·mā·lêṭ;

be delivered –

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

יְרִיבֵךְ֙

yə·rî·ḇêḵ

with him who contends with you

אָנֹכִ֣י

’ā·nō·ḵî

I

אָרִ֔יב

’ā·rîḇ,

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

בָּנַ֖יִךְ

bā·na·yiḵ

אָנֹכִ֥י

’ā·nō·ḵî

I

. אוֹשִֽׁיעַ׃

’ō·wō·šî·a‘.

will save .

וְהַאֲכַלְתִּ֤י

wə·ha·’ă·ḵal·tî

And I will feed

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

מוֹנַ֙יִךְ֙

mō·w·na·yiḵ

those who oppress you

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

– בְּשָׂרָ֔ם

bə·śā·rām,

with their own flesh –

– וְכֶעָסִ֖יס

wə·ḵe·‘ā·sîs

and as with sweet wine –

､ דָּמָ֣ם

dā·mām

with their own blood ､

יִשְׁכָּר֑וּן

yiš·kā·rūn;

they shall be drunk

וְיָדְע֣וּ

wə·yā·ḏə·‘ū

כָל־

ḵāl

בָּשָׂ֗ר

bā·śār,

כִּ֣י

kî

אֲנִ֤י

’ă·nî

I [am]

יְהוָה֙

Yah·weh

מֽוֹשִׁיעֵ֔ךְ

mō·wō·šî·‘êḵ,

､ וְגֹאֲלֵ֖ךְ

wə·ḡō·’ă·lêḵ

and your Redeemer ､

אֲבִ֥יר

’ă·ḇîr

. יַעֲקֹֽב׃

ya·‘ă·qōḇ.

of Jacob .
