שִׁמְע֥וּ

šim·‘ū

אֵלַ֛י

’ê·lay

to Me

רֹ֥דְפֵי

rō·ḏə·p̄ê

you who follow after

､ צֶ֖דֶק

ṣe·ḏeq

righteousness ､

מְבַקְשֵׁ֣י

mə·ḇaq·šê

– יְהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

הַבִּ֙יטוּ֙

hab·bî·ṭū

אֶל־

’el-

to

צ֣וּר

ṣūr

the rock

､ חֻצַּבְתֶּ֔ם

ḥuṣ·ṣaḇ·tem,

[from which] you were hewn ､

וְאֶל־

wə·’el-

and to

מַקֶּ֥בֶת

maq·qe·ḇeṯ

the hole

בּ֖וֹר

bō·wr

of the pit

. נֻקַּרְתֶּֽם׃

nuq·qar·tem.

[from which] you were dug .

הַבִּ֙יטוּ֙

hab·bî·ṭū

אֶל־

’el-

to

אַבְרָהָ֣ם

’aḇ·rā·hām

､ אֲבִיכֶ֔ם

’ă·ḇî·ḵem,

your father ､

וְאֶל־

wə·’el-

and to

שָׂרָ֖ה

śā·rāh

תְּחוֹלֶלְכֶ֑ם

tə·ḥō·w·lel·ḵem;

כִּי־

kî-

､ אֶחָ֣ד

’e·ḥāḏ

[when only] one ､

קְרָאתִ֔יו

qə·rā·ṯîw,

וַאֲבָרְכֵ֖הוּ

wa·’ă·ḇā·rə·ḵê·hū

and blessed him

. וְאַרְבֵּֽהוּ׃

wə·’ar·bê·hū.

and increased him .

נִחַ֨ם

ni·ḥam

יְהוָ֜ה

Yah·weh

– צִיּ֗וֹן

ṣî·yō·wn,

Zion –

נִחַם֙

ni·ḥam

He will comfort

כָּל־

kāl-

– חָרְבֹתֶ֔יהָ

ḥā·rə·ḇō·ṯe·hā,

her waste places –

וַיָּ֤שֶׂם

way·yā·śem

and He will make

מִדְבָּרָהּ֙

miḏ·bā·rāh

､ כְּעֵ֔דֶן

kə·‘ê·ḏen,

וְעַרְבָתָ֖הּ

wə·‘ar·ḇā·ṯāh

כְּגַן־

kə·ḡan-

like the garden

– יְהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

of Yahweh –

שָׂשׂ֤וֹן

śā·śō·wn

וְשִׂמְחָה֙

wə·śim·ḥāh

יִמָּ֣צֵא

yim·mā·ṣê

will be found

בָ֔הּ

ḇāh,

in it

､ תּוֹדָ֖ה

tō·w·ḏāh

Thanksgiving ､

וְק֥וֹל

wə·qō·wl

and the voice

. זִמְרָֽה׃

zim·rāh.

הַקְשִׁ֤יבוּ

haq·šî·ḇū

אֵלַי֙

’ê·lay

to Me

– עַמִּ֔י

‘am·mî,

My people –

– וּלְאוּמִּ֖י

ū·lə·’ūm·mî

and My nation –

אֵלַ֣י

’ê·lay

to Me

הַאֲזִ֑ינוּ

ha·’ă·zî·nū;

כִּ֤י

kî

תוֹרָה֙

ṯō·w·rāh

מֵאִתִּ֣י

mê·’it·tî

תֵצֵ֔א

ṯê·ṣê,

וּמִשְׁפָּטִ֔י

ū·miš·pā·ṭî,

and I will make My justice

לְא֥וֹר

lə·’ō·wr

as a light

עַמִּ֖ים

‘am·mîm

of the peoples

. אַרְגִּֽיעַ׃

’ar·gî·a‘.

– קָר֤וֹב

qā·rō·wḇ

Near –

צִדְקִי֙

ṣiḏ·qî

My righteousness [is]

､ יָצָ֣א

yā·ṣā

has gone forth ､

יִשְׁעִ֔י

yiš·‘î,

וּזְרֹעַ֖י

ū·zə·rō·‘ay

and My arms

– עַמִּ֣ים

‘am·mîm

the peoples –

יִשְׁפֹּ֑טוּ

yiš·pō·ṭū;

will judge

אֵלַי֙

’ê·lay

אִיִּ֣ים

’î·yîm

יְקַוּ֔וּ

yə·qaw·wū,

will wait

וְאֶל־

wə·’el-

and on

זְרֹעִ֖י

zə·rō·‘î

My arm

. יְיַחֵלֽוּן׃

yə·ya·ḥê·lūn.

they will trust .

שְׂאוּ֩

śə·’ū

､ לַשָּׁמַ֨יִם

laš·šā·ma·yim

to the heavens ､

עֵֽינֵיכֶ֜ם

‘ê·nê·ḵem

וְֽהַבִּ֧יטוּ

wə·hab·bî·ṭū

and look

אֶל־

’el-

on

הָאָ֣רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

– מִתַּ֗חַת

mit·ta·ḥaṯ,

כִּֽי־

kî-

שָׁמַ֜יִם

šā·ma·yim

､ כֶּעָשָׁ֤ן

ke·‘ā·šān

נִמְלָ֙חוּ֙

nim·lā·ḥū

will vanish away

וְהָאָ֙רֶץ֙

wə·hā·’ā·reṣ

and the earth

､ כַּבֶּ֣גֶד

kab·be·ḡeḏ

like a garment ､

תִּבְלֶ֔ה

tiḇ·leh,

וְיֹשְׁבֶ֖יהָ

wə·yō·šə·ḇe·hā

and those who dwell in it

כְּמוֹ־

kə·mōw-

in

– כֵ֣ן

ḵên

like manner –

יְמוּת֑וּן

yə·mū·ṯūn;

will die

וִישֽׁוּעָתִי֙

wî·šū·‘ā·ṯî

but My salvation

､ לְעוֹלָ֣ם

lə·‘ō·w·lām

תִּֽהְיֶ֔ה

tih·yeh,

will be

וְצִדְקָתִ֖י

wə·ṣiḏ·qā·ṯî

and My righteousness

לֹ֥א

lō

not

. תֵחָֽת׃

ṯê·ḥāṯ.

will be abolished .

righteousness ､

– תּוֹרָתִ֣י

tō·w·rā·ṯî

[is] My law –

בְלִבָּ֑ם

ḇə·lib·bām;

אַל־

’al-

not

תִּֽירְאוּ֙

tî·rə·’ū

חֶרְפַּ֣ת

ḥer·paṯ

､ אֱנ֔וֹשׁ

’ĕ·nō·wōš,

of men ､

וּמִגִּדֻּפֹתָ֖ם

ū·mig·gid·du·p̄ō·ṯām

and of their insults

אַל־

’al-

. תֵּחָֽתּוּ׃

tê·ḥāt·tū.

כִּ֤י

kî

､ כַבֶּ֙גֶד֙

ḵab·be·ḡeḏ

like a garment ､

יֹאכְלֵ֣ם

yō·ḵə·lêm

will eat them up

עָ֔שׁ

‘āš,

the moth

. וְכַצֶּ֖מֶר

wə·ḵaṣ·ṣe·mer

and like wool .

יֹאכְלֵ֣ם

yō·ḵə·lêm

סָ֑ס

sās;

the worm

וְצִדְקָתִי֙

wə·ṣiḏ·qā·ṯî

but My righteousness

､ לְעוֹלָ֣ם

lə·‘ō·w·lām

תִּֽהְיֶ֔ה

tih·yeh,

will be

וִישׁוּעָתִ֖י

wî·šū·‘ā·ṯî

and My salvation

לְד֥וֹר

lə·ḏō·wr

from generation to

. דּוֹרִֽים׃

dō·w·rîm.

לִבְשִׁי־

put on

､ עֹז֙

‘ōz

זְר֣וֹעַ

Yah·weh,

､ ע֚וּרִי

‘ū·rî

､ כִּ֣ימֵי

kî·mê

as in the days ､

קֶ֔דֶם

qe·ḏem,

דֹּר֖וֹת

dō·rō·wṯ

in the generations

. עוֹלָמִ֑ים

‘ō·w·lā·mîm;

of old .

הֲל֥וֹא

אַתְּ־

’at-

הִ֛יא

hî

הַמַּחְצֶ֥בֶת

ham·maḥ·ṣe·ḇeṯ

[the arm] that cut apart

רַ֖הַב

ra·haḇ

מְחוֹלֶ֥לֶת

mə·ḥō·w·le·leṯ

؟ תַּנִּֽין׃

tan·nîn.

the serpent ؟

הֲל֤וֹא

hă·lō·w

not

אַתְּ־

’at-

הִיא֙

hî

הַמַּחֲרֶ֣בֶת

ham·ma·ḥă·re·ḇeṯ

[the One] who dried up

､ יָ֔ם

yām,

the sea ､

מֵ֖י

mê

– תְּה֣וֹם

tə·hō·wm

of the deep –

רַבָּ֑ה

rab·bāh;

הַשָּׂ֙מָה֙

haś·śā·māh

מַֽעֲמַקֵּי־

ma·‘ă·maq·qê-

יָ֔ם

yām,

of the sea

דֶּ֖רֶךְ

de·reḵ

לַעֲבֹ֥ר

la·‘ă·ḇōr

for to cross over

؟ גְּאוּלִֽים׃

gə·’ū·lîm.

the redeemed ؟

וּפְדוּיֵ֨י

ū·p̄ə·ḏū·yê

so the ransomed

יְהוָ֜ה

Yah·weh

､ יְשׁוּב֗וּן

yə·šū·ḇūn,

shall return ､

וּבָ֤אוּ

ū·ḇā·’ū

and come

– צִיּוֹן֙

ṣî·yō·wn

to Zion –

בְּרִנָּ֔ה

bə·rin·nāh,

וְשִׂמְחַ֥ת

wə·śim·ḥaṯ

and with joy

עוֹלָ֖ם

‘ō·w·lām

עַל־

‘al-

on

. רֹאשָׁ֑ם

rō·šām;

שָׂשׂ֤וֹן

śā·śō·wn

– וְשִׂמְחָה֙

wə·śim·ḥāh

and gladness –

יַשִּׂיג֔וּן

yaś·śî·ḡūn,

they shall obtain

. נָ֖סוּ

nā·sū

shall flee away .

יָג֥וֹן

yā·ḡō·wn

. וַאֲנָחָֽה׃

wa·’ă·nā·ḥāh.

’ā·nō·ḵî

I

､ אָנֹכִ֛י

’ā·nō·ḵî

[even] I [am] ､

ה֖וּא

hū

He

מְנַחֶמְכֶ֑ם

mə·na·ḥem·ḵem;

who comforts you

מִֽי־

mî-

､ אַ֤תְּ

’at

you ､

וַתִּֽירְאִי֙

wat·tî·rə·’î

that you should be afraid

מֵאֱנ֣וֹשׁ

mê·’ĕ·nō·wōš

of a man

､ יָמ֔וּת

yā·mūṯ,

[who] will die ､

וּמִבֶּן־

ū·mib·ben-

and of the son of a

אָדָ֖ם

’ā·ḏām

– חָצִ֥יר

ḥā·ṣîr

. יִנָּתֵֽן׃

yin·nā·ṯên.

[who] will be made .

וַתִּשְׁכַּ֞ח

wat·tiš·kaḥ

יְהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

､ עֹשֶׂ֗ךָ

‘ō·śe·ḵā,

נוֹטֶ֣ה

nō·w·ṭeh

who stretched out

､ שָׁמַיִם֮

šā·ma·yim

the heavens ､

וְיֹסֵ֣ד

wə·yō·sêḏ

and laid the foundations

– אָרֶץ֒

’ā·reṣ

of the earth –

וַתְּפַחֵ֨ד

wat·tə·p̄a·ḥêḏ

and You have feared

תָּמִ֜יד

tā·mîḏ

כָּל־

kāl-

הַיּ֗וֹם

hay·yō·wm,

מִפְּנֵי֙

mip·pə·nê

חֲמַ֣ת

ḥă·maṯ

of the fury

､ הַמֵּצִ֔יק

ham·mê·ṣîq,

of the oppressor ､

כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר

ka·’ă·šer

כּוֹנֵ֖ן

kō·w·nên

[he has] prepared

؟ לְהַשְׁחִ֑ית

lə·haš·ḥîṯ;

וְאַיֵּ֖ה

wə·’ay·yêh

and where [is]

חֲמַ֥ת

ḥă·maṯ

the fury

؟ הַמֵּצִֽיק׃

ham·mê·ṣîq.

of the oppressor ؟

מִהַ֥ר

mi·har

צֹעֶ֖ה

ṣō·‘eh

the captive exile

､ לְהִפָּתֵ֑חַ

lə·hip·pā·ṯê·aḥ;

that he may be loosed ､

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

that not

יָמ֣וּת

yā·mūṯ

､ לַשַּׁ֔חַת

laš·ša·ḥaṯ,

in the pit ､

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

and not

יֶחְסַ֖ר

yeḥ·sar

that should fail

. לַחְמֽוֹ׃

laḥ·mōw.

וְאָֽנֹכִי֙

wə·’ā·nō·ḵî

But I [am]

יְהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

､ אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ

’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā,

רֹגַ֣ע

rō·ḡa‘

､ הַיָּ֔ם

hay·yām,

the sea ､

– וַיֶּהֱמ֖וּ

way·ye·hĕ·mū

and roared –

גַּלָּ֑יו

gal·lāw;

יְהוָ֥ה

Yah·weh

צְבָא֖וֹת

ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ

. שְׁמֽוֹ׃

šə·mōw.

[is] His name .

וָאָשִׂ֤ים

wā·’ā·śîm

And I have put

דְּבָרַי֙

də·ḇā·ray

､ בְּפִ֔יךָ

bə·p̄î·ḵā,

in your mouth ､

וּבְצֵ֥ל

ū·ḇə·ṣêl

and with the shadow

､ יָדִ֖י

yā·ḏî

of My hand ､

כִּסִּיתִ֑יךָ

kis·sî·ṯî·ḵā;

I have covered you

לִנְטֹ֤עַ

lin·ṭō·a‘

that I may plant

､ שָׁמַ֙יִם֙

šā·ma·yim

the heavens ､

וְלִיסֹ֣ד

wə·lî·sōḏ

and Lay the foundations

､ אָ֔רֶץ

’ā·reṣ,

of the earth ､

וְלֵאמֹ֥ר

wə·lê·mōr

and say

､ לְצִיּ֖וֹן

lə·ṣî·yō·wn

to Zion ､

עַמִּי־

‘am·mî-

. אָֽתָּה׃

’āt·tāh.

The Cup of Wrath

הִתְעוֹרְרִ֣י

hiṯ·‘ō·wr·rî

､ הִֽתְעוֹרְרִ֗י

hiṯ·‘ō·wr·rî,

､ ק֚וּמִי

qū·mî

Stand up ､

､ יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם

yə·rū·šā·lim,

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

שָׁתִ֛ית

šā·ṯîṯ

You who have drunk

מִיַּ֥ד

mî·yaḏ

at the hand

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

כּ֣וֹס

kō·ws

the cup

– חֲמָת֑וֹ

ḥă·mā·ṯōw;

of His fury –

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

קֻבַּ֜עַת

qub·ba·‘aṯ

כּ֧וֹס

kō·ws

of the cup

､ הַתַּרְעֵלָ֛ה

hat·tar·‘ê·lāh

of trembling ､

שָׁתִ֖ית

šā·ṯîṯ

. מָצִֽית׃

mā·ṣîṯ.

[And] drained [it] out .

אֵין־

’ên-

[There is] no one

מְנַהֵ֣ל

mə·na·hêl

לָ֔הּ

lāh,

מִכָּל־

mik·kāl

בָּנִ֖ים

bā·nîm

the sons

– יָלָ֑דָה

yā·lā·ḏāh;

she has brought forth –

וְאֵ֤ין

wə·’ên

and [there is] no

מַחֲזִיק֙

ma·ḥă·zîq

one who takes her

בְּיָדָ֔הּ

bə·yā·ḏāh,

by the hand

מִכָּל־

mik·kāl

בָּנִ֖ים

bā·nîm

the sons

. גִּדֵּֽלָה׃

gid·dê·lāh.

she has brought up .

שְׁתַּ֤יִם

šə·ta·yim

הֵ֙נָּה֙

hên·nāh

קֹֽרְאֹתַ֔יִךְ

qō·rə·’ō·ṯa·yiḵ,

have come to you

מִ֖י

mî

יָנ֣וּד

yā·nūḏ

will be sorry

לָ֑ךְ

lāḵ;

､ הַשֹּׁ֧ד

haš·šōḏ

､ וְהַשֶּׁ֛בֶר

wə·haš·še·ḇer

and destruction ､

､ וְהָרָעָ֥ב

wə·hā·rā·‘āḇ

and famine ､

– וְהַחֶ֖רֶב

wə·ha·ḥe·reḇ

and sword –

מִ֥י

mî

[By] whom

. אֲנַחֲמֵֽךְ׃

’ă·na·ḥă·mêḵ.

will I comfort you .

בָּנַ֜יִךְ

bā·na·yiḵ

､ עֻלְּפ֥וּ

‘ul·lə·p̄ū

have fainted ､

שָׁכְב֛וּ

šā·ḵə·ḇū

בְּרֹ֥אשׁ

bə·rōš

at the head

כָּל־

kāl-

of all

､ חוּצ֖וֹת

ḥū·ṣō·wṯ

the streets ､

כְּת֣וֹא

kə·ṯō·w

Like an antelope in

､ מִכְמָ֑ר

miḵ·mār;

a net ､

הַֽמְלֵאִ֥ים

ham·lê·’îm

חֲמַת־

ḥă·maṯ-

of the fury

､ יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

of Yahweh ､

גַּעֲרַ֥ת

ga·‘ă·raṯ

. אֱלֹהָֽיִךְ׃

’ĕ·lō·hā·yiḵ.

לָכֵ֛ן

lā·ḵên

שִׁמְעִי־

šim·‘î-

נָ֥א

nā

､ זֹ֖את

zōṯ

this ､

､ עֲנִיָּ֑ה

‘ă·nî·yāh;

you afflicted ､

､ וּשְׁכֻרַ֖ת

ū·šə·ḵu·raṯ

and drunk ､

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

but not

– מִיָּֽיִן׃

mî·yā·yin.

with wine –

kōh-

אָמַ֞ר

’ā·mar

אֲדֹנַ֣יִךְ

’ă·ḏō·na·yiḵ

､ יְהוָ֗ה

Yah·weh

וֵאלֹהַ֙יִךְ֙

wê·lō·ha·yiḵ

יָרִ֣יב

yā·rîḇ

[Who] pleads the cause

､ עַמּ֔וֹ

‘am·mōw,

of His people ､

､ הִנֵּ֥ה

hin·nêh

See ､

לָקַ֛חְתִּי

lā·qaḥ·tî

מִיָּדֵ֖ךְ

mî·yā·ḏêḵ

out of your hand

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

כּ֣וֹס

kō·ws

the cup

､ הַתַּרְעֵלָ֑ה

hat·tar·‘ê·lāh;

of trembling ､

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

קֻבַּ֙עַת֙

qub·ba·‘aṯ

כּ֣וֹס

kō·ws

of the cup

– חֲמָתִ֔י

ḥă·mā·ṯî,

of My fury –

לֹא־

תוֹסִ֥יפִי

ṯō·w·sî·p̄î

לִשְׁתּוֹתָ֖הּ

liš·tō·w·ṯāh

– עֽוֹד׃

‘ō·wḏ.

וְשַׂמְתִּ֙יהָ֙

wə·śam·tî·hā

but I will put it

בְּיַד־

bə·yaḏ-

מוֹגַ֔יִךְ

mō·w·ḡa·yiḵ,

of those who afflict you

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

אָמְר֥וּ

’ā·mə·rū

､ לְנַפְשֵׁ֖ךְ

lə·nap̄·šêḵ

to you ､

､ שְׁחִ֣י

šə·ḥî

– וְנַעֲבֹ֑רָה

wə·na·‘ă·ḇō·rāh;

that we may walk over you –

וַתָּשִׂ֤ימִי

wat·tā·śî·mî

and you have laid

､ כָאָ֙רֶץ֙

ḵā·’ā·reṣ

like the ground ､

גֵּוֵ֔ךְ

gê·wêḵ,

､ וְכַח֖וּץ

wə·ḵa·ḥūṣ

and as the street ､

. לַעֹבְרִֽים׃

la·‘ō·ḇə·rîm.

for those who walk over .
