of heaven –

הַגּוֹיִ֖ם

. מֵהֵֽמָּה׃

חֻקּ֥וֹת

הָֽעַמִּ֖ים

hā·‘am·mîm

of the peoples

– הֶ֣בֶל

he·ḇel

ה֑וּא

hū;

כִּֽי־

kî-

עֵץ֙

‘êṣ

､ מִיַּ֣עַר

mî·ya·‘ar

from the forest ､

כְּרָת֔וֹ

kə·rā·ṯōw,

מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה

ma·‘ă·śêh

the work

יְדֵ֥י־

yə·ḏê-

of the hands

､ חָרָ֖שׁ

ḥā·rāš

of the workman ､

. בַּֽמַּעֲצָֽד׃

bam·ma·‘ă·ṣāḏ.

with the ax .

בְּכֶ֥סֶף

bə·ḵe·sep̄

– וּבְזָהָ֖ב

ū·ḇə·zā·hāḇ

and gold –

יְיַפֵּ֑הוּ

yə·yap·pê·hū;

they decorate it

בְּמַסְמְר֧וֹת

bə·mas·mə·rō·wṯ

with nails

､ וּבְמַקָּב֛וֹת

ū·ḇə·maq·qā·ḇō·wṯ

and hammers ､

יְחַזְּק֖וּם

yə·ḥaz·zə·qūm

וְל֥וֹא

wə·lō·w

so that not

. יָפִֽיק׃

yā·p̄îq.

it will topple .

､ כְּתֹ֨מֶר

kə·ṯō·mer

Like a palm tree ､

מִקְשָׁ֥ה

miq·šāh

הֵ֙מָּה֙

hêm·māh

– וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

and cannot –

יְדַבֵּ֔רוּ

yə·ḏab·bê·rū,

נָשׂ֥וֹא

nā·śō·w

､ יִנָּשׂ֖וּא

yin·nā·śū

they be carried ､

כִּ֣י

kî

לֹ֣א

lō

. יִצְעָ֑דוּ

yiṣ·‘ā·ḏū;

they go [by themselves] .

אַל־

’al-

Not

תִּֽירְא֤וּ

tî·rə·’ū

do be afraid

מֵהֶם֙

mê·hem

כִּי־

kî-

לֹ֣א

lō

､ יָרֵ֔עוּ

yā·rê·‘ū,

they do evil ､

וְגַם־

wə·ḡam-

and also

. הֵיטֵ֖יב

hê·ṭêḇ

אֵ֥ין

’ên

[can] not

. אוֹתָֽם׃

’ō·w·ṯām.

Inasmuch as [there is] none

､ כָּמ֖וֹךָ

kā·mō·w·ḵā

– יְהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

､ גָּד֥וֹל

אַתָּ֛ה

’at·tāh

וְגָד֥וֹל

wə·ḡā·ḏō·wl

שִׁמְךָ֖

. בִּגְבוּרָֽה׃

biḡ·ḇū·rāh.

in might .

יִֽרָאֲךָ֙

מֶ֣לֶךְ

؟ הַגּוֹיִ֔ם

hag·gō·w·yim,

of the nations ؟

לְךָ֖

! יָאָ֑תָה

yā·’ā·ṯāh;

כִּ֣י

kî

בְכָל־

ḇə·ḵāl-

חַכְמֵ֧י

ḥaḵ·mê

the wise [men]

､ הַגּוֹיִ֛ם

hag·gō·w·yim

of the nations ､

וּבְכָל־

ū·ḇə·ḵāl

and in all

､ מַלְכוּתָ֖ם

mal·ḵū·ṯām

their kingdoms ､

מֵאֵ֥ין

mê·’ên

[There is] none

. כָּמֽוֹךָ׃

kā·mō·w·ḵā.

וּבְאַחַ֖ת

ū·ḇə·’a·ḥaṯ

But in one [mind]

יִבְעֲר֣וּ

yiḇ·‘ă·rū

they are dull-hearted

– וְיִכְסָ֑לוּ

wə·yiḵ·sā·lū;

and foolish –

מוּסַ֥ר

mū·sar

הֲבָלִ֖ים

hă·ḇā·lîm

עֵ֥ץ

‘êṣ

a wooden [idol]

. הֽוּא׃

hū.

is .

כֶּ֣סֶף

ke·sep̄

מְרֻקָּ֞ע

mə·ruq·qā‘

is beaten into plates

מִתַּרְשִׁ֣ישׁ

mit·tar·šîš

יוּבָ֗א

yū·ḇā,

וְזָהָב֙

wə·zā·hāḇ

and gold

מֵֽאוּפָ֔ז

mê·’ū·p̄āz,

מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה

ma·‘ă·śêh

the work

､ חָרָ֖שׁ

ḥā·rāš

of the craftsman ､

וִידֵ֣י

wî·ḏê

and of the hands

– צוֹרֵ֑ף

ṣō·w·rêp̄;

of the metalsmith –

תְּכֵ֤לֶת

tə·ḵê·leṯ

וְאַרְגָּמָן֙

wə·’ar·gā·mān

– לְבוּשָׁ֔ם

lə·ḇū·šām,

[are] their clothing –

מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה

ma·‘ă·śêh

the work

חֲכָמִ֖ים

ḥă·ḵā·mîm

of skillful [men]

. כֻּלָּֽם׃

kul·lām.

they [are] all .

וַֽיהוָ֤ה

Yah·weh

But Yahweh [is]

､ אֱלֹהִים֙

’ĕ·lō·hîm

the God ､

אֱמֶ֔ת

’ĕ·meṯ,

הֽוּא־

hū-

He [is]

､ אֱלֹהִ֥ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

the God ､

חַיִּ֖ים

ḥay·yîm

. וּמֶ֣לֶךְ

ū·me·leḵ

and the King .

עוֹלָ֑ם

‘ō·w·lām;

מִקִּצְפּוֹ֙

miq·qiṣ·pōw

､ תִּרְעַ֣שׁ

tir·‘aš

will tremble ､

הָאָ֔רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ,

וְלֹֽא־

wə·lō-

and not

יָכִ֥לוּ

yā·ḵi·lū

will be able to endure

גוֹיִ֖ם

ḡō·w·yim

. זַעְמֽוֹ׃

za‘·mōw.

His indignation .

לְה֔וֹם

אֱלָ֣הַיָּ֔א

the gods

שְׁמַיָּ֥א

､ וְאַרְקָ֖א

wə·’ar·qā

and the earth ､

לָ֣א

not

עֲבַ֑דוּ

‘ă·ḇa·ḏū;

יֵאבַ֧דוּ

yê·ḇa·ḏū

מֵֽאַרְעָ֛א

mê·’ar·‘ā

､ וּמִן־

ū·min-

and from ､

תְּח֥וֹת

tə·ḥō·wṯ

שְׁמַיָּ֖א

šə·may·yā

. אֵֽלֶּה׃

עֹשֵׂ֥ה

‘ō·śêh

אֶ֙רֶץ֙

’e·reṣ

､ בְּכֹח֔וֹ

bə·ḵō·ḥōw,

by His power ､

מֵכִ֥ין

mê·ḵîn

He has established

תֵּבֵ֖ל

tê·ḇêl

､ בְּחָכְמָת֑וֹ

bə·ḥā·ḵə·mā·ṯōw;

by His wisdom ､

וּבִתְבוּנָת֖וֹ

ū·ḇiṯ·ḇū·nā·ṯōw

and at His discretion

נָטָ֥ה

nā·ṭāh

has stretched out

. שָׁמָֽיִם׃

šā·mā·yim.

､ לְק֨וֹל

lə·qō·wl

When His voice ､

תִּתּ֜וֹ

tit·tōw

הֲמ֥וֹן

hă·mō·wn

[There is] a multitude

מַ֙יִם֙

ma·yim

､ בַּשָּׁמַ֔יִם

baš·šā·ma·yim,

in the heavens ､

וַיַּעֲלֶ֥ה

way·ya·‘ă·leh

and He causes to ascend

נְשִׂאִ֖ים

nə·śi·’îm

מִקְצֵ֣ה

miq·ṣêh

[ארץ]

’e·reṣ

of

– (הָאָ֑רֶץ)

hā·’ā·reṣ;

the earth –

בְּרָקִ֤ים

bə·rā·qîm

､ לַמָּטָר֙

lam·mā·ṭār

for the rain ､

עָשָׂ֔ה

‘ā·śāh,

וַיּ֥וֹצֵא

way·yō·w·ṣê

and He brings

ר֖וּחַ

rū·aḥ

the wind

. מֵאֹצְרֹתָֽיו׃

mê·’ō·ṣə·rō·ṯāw.

out of His treasuries .

נִבְעַ֤ר

niḇ·‘ar

Is dull-hearted

כָּל־

kāl-

אָדָם֙

’ā·ḏām

– מִדַּ֔עַת

mid·da·‘aṯ,

without knowledge –

הֹבִ֥ישׁ

hō·ḇîš

is put to shame

כָּל־

kāl-

צוֹרֵ֖ף

ṣō·w·rêp̄

– מִפָּ֑סֶל

mip·pā·sel;

by an image –

כִּ֛י

kî

､ שֶׁ֥קֶר

še·qer

נִסְכּ֖וֹ

nis·kōw

his molded image [is]

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

and [there is] no

ר֥וּחַ

rū·aḥ

. בָּֽם׃

bām.

in them .

､ הֶ֣בֶל

he·ḇel

הֵ֔מָּה

hêm·māh,

מַעֲשֵׂ֖ה

ma·‘ă·śêh

– תַּעְתֻּעִ֑ים

ta‘·tu·‘îm;

of errors –

בְּעֵ֥ת

bə·‘êṯ

in the time

פְּקֻדָּתָ֖ם

pə·qud·dā·ṯām

of their punishment

. יֹאבֵֽדוּ׃

yō·ḇê·ḏū.

they shall perish .

לֹֽא־

lō-

[is] not

– כְאֵ֜לֶּה

ḵə·’êl·leh

חֵ֣לֶק

ḥê·leq

יַעֲקֹ֗ב

ya·‘ă·qōḇ,

כִּֽי־

kî-

יוֹצֵ֤ר

yō·w·ṣêr

הַכֹּל֙

hak·kōl

of all [things]

ה֔וּא

hū,

He [is]

וְיִ֨שְׂרָאֵ֔ל

wə·yiś·rā·’êl,

and Israel [is]

שֵׁ֖בֶט

šê·ḇeṭ

– נַֽחֲלָת֑וֹ

na·ḥă·lā·ṯōw;

of His inheritance –

יְהוָ֥ה

Yah·weh

צְבָא֖וֹת

ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ

. שְׁמֽוֹ׃

šə·mōw.

[is] His name .

The Coming Destruction

אִסְפִּ֥י

’is·pî

､ מֵאֶ֖רֶץ

mê·’e·reṣ

from the land ､

כִּנְעָתֵ֑ךְ

kin·‘ā·ṯêḵ;

[ישבתי]

yō·šaḇ·tî

-

(יֹשֶׁ֖בֶת)

yō·še·ḇeṯ

. בַּמָּצֽוֹר׃

bam·mā·ṣō·wr.

of the fortress .

אָמַ֣ר

’ā·mar

יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

הִנְנִ֥י

hin·nî

קוֹלֵ֛עַ

I will throw out

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

יוֹשְׁבֵ֥י

yō·wō·šə·ḇê

the inhabitants

הָאָ֖רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

of the land

､ בַּפַּ֣עַם

bap·pa·‘am

at time ､

הַזֹּ֑את

haz·zōṯ;

וַהֲצֵר֥וֹתִי

wa·hă·ṣê·rō·w·ṯî

and will distress

לָהֶ֖ם

lā·hem

לְמַ֥עַן

lə·ma·‘an

. יִמְצָֽאוּ׃

yim·ṣā·’ū.

they may find [it so] .

Woe is

לִי֙

lî

me

עַל־

‘al-

! שִׁבְרִ֔י

šiḇ·rî,

my hurt !

. נַחְלָ֖ה

naḥ·lāh

מַכָּתִ֑י

mak·kā·ṯî;

My wound is

וַאֲנִ֣י

wa·’ă·nî

but I

､ אָמַ֔רְתִּי

’ā·mar·tî,

say ､

אַ֛ךְ

’aḵ

זֶ֥ה

zeh

this [is]

､ חֳלִ֖י

ḥo·lî

an infirmity ､

. וְאֶשָּׂאֶֽנּוּ׃

wə·’eś·śā·’en·nū.

and I must bear it .

אָהֳלִ֣י

’ā·ho·lî

､ שֻׁדָּ֔ד

šud·dāḏ,

is plundered ､

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and all

מֵיתָרַ֖י

mê·ṯā·ray

– נִתָּ֑קוּ

nit·tā·qū;

בָּנַ֤י

bā·nay

יְצָאֻ֙נִי֙

yə·ṣā·’u·nî

have gone from me

– וְאֵינָ֔ם

wə·’ê·nām,

and they [are] no [more] –

אֵין־

’ên-

[There is] no one

נֹטֶ֥ה

nō·ṭeh

､ עוֹד֙

‘ō·wḏ

אָהֳלִ֔י

’ā·ho·lî,

וּמֵקִ֖ים

ū·mê·qîm

Or set up

. יְרִיעוֹתָֽי׃

כִּ֤י

､ נִבְעֲרוּ֙

niḇ·‘ă·rū

have become dull-hearted ､

הָֽרֹעִ֔ים

– יְהוָ֖ה

דָרָ֑שׁוּ

ḏā·rā·šū;

עַל־

‘al-

כֵּן֙

､ הִשְׂכִּ֔ילוּ

hiś·kî·lū,

they shall prosper ､

וְכָל־

and all

מַרְעִיתָ֖ם

mar·‘î·ṯām

. נָפֽוֹצָה׃

nā·p̄ō·w·ṣāh.

shall be scattered .

with justice –

Not

､ בְּאַפְּךָ֖

in Your anger ､

פֶּן־

pen-

. תַּמְעִטֵֽנִי׃

tam·‘i·ṭê·nî.

You bring me to nothing .

שְׁפֹ֣ךְ

חֲמָתְךָ֗

עַל־

הַגּוֹיִם֙

hag·gō·w·yim

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

יְדָע֔וּךָ

מִשְׁפָּח֔וֹת

– בְּשִׁמְךָ֖

on Your name –

they have eaten up

אֶֽת־

and Devoured him

וַיְכַלֻּ֔הוּ

and consumed him

his dwelling place

made desolate .
