נָ֣א

– כְגֶ֣בֶר

ḵə·ḡe·ḇer

like a man –

חֲלָצֶ֑יךָ

ḥă·lā·ṣe·ḵā;

וְ֝אֶשְׁאָלְךָ֗

wə·’eš·’ā·lə·ḵā,

and I will question you

. וְהוֹדִיעֵֽנִי׃

wə·hō·w·ḏî·‘ê·nî.

and you shall answer Me .

אֵיפֹ֣ה

הָ֭יִיתָ

hā·yî·ṯā

בְּיָסְדִי־

bə·yā·sə·ḏî-

when I laid the foundations

؟ אָ֑רֶץ

’ā·reṣ;

of the earth ؟

､ הַ֝גֵּ֗ד

hag·gêḏ,

Tell [Me] ､

אִם־

יָדַ֥עְתָּ

. בִינָֽה׃

בְּרָן־

כּ֣וֹכְבֵי

kō·wḵ·ḇê

בֹ֑קֶר

ḇō·qer;

؟ וַ֝יָּרִ֗יעוּ

way·yā·rî·‘ū,

and shouted for joy ؟

כָּל־

kāl-

בְּנֵ֥י

bə·nê

the sons

. אֱלֹהִֽים׃

’ĕ·lō·hîm.

of God .

וַיָּ֣סֶךְ

way·yā·seḵ

Or [who] shut in

､ בִּדְלָתַ֣יִם

biḏ·lā·ṯa·yim

with doors ､

יָ֑ם

yām;

the sea

､ בְּ֝גִיח֗וֹ

bə·ḡî·ḥōw,

when it burst forth ､

מֵרֶ֥חֶם

mê·re·ḥem

؟ יֵצֵֽא׃

yê·ṣê.

[and] issued ؟

בְּשׂוּמִ֣י

bə·śū·mî

עָנָ֣ן

‘ā·nān

לְבֻשׁ֑וֹ

lə·ḇu·šōw;

וַ֝עֲרָפֶ֗ל

wa·‘ă·rā·p̄el,

and thick darkness

. חֲתֻלָּתֽוֹ׃

ḥă·ṯul·lā·ṯōw.

its swaddling band .

וָאֶשְׁבֹּ֣ר

wā·’eš·bōr

And when I fixed

עָלָ֣יו

‘ā·lāw

for it

חֻקִּ֑י

ḥuq·qî;

וָֽ֝אָשִׂ֗ים

wā·’ā·śîm,

and set

בְּרִ֣יחַ

bə·rî·aḥ

､ וּדְלָתָֽיִם׃

ū·ḏə·lā·ṯā·yim.

and doors ､

､ וָאֹמַ֗ר

wā·’ō·mar,

and when I said ､

עַד־

‘aḏ-

פֹּ֣ה

pōh

､ תָ֭בוֹא

ṯā·ḇō·w

you may come ､

וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

but no

– תֹסִ֑יף

ṯō·sîp̄;

וּפֹ֥א־

ū·p̄ō-

and here

؟ יָ֝שִׁ֗ית

yā·šîṯ,

בִּגְא֥וֹן

biḡ·’ō·wn

. גַּלֶּֽיךָ׃

gal·le·ḵā.

– הְֽ֭מִיָּמֶיךָ‪‬

hə·mî·yā·me·ḵā

Have since your days [began] –

צִוִּ֣יתָ

ṣiw·wî·ṯā

בֹּ֑קֶר

bō·qer;

[ידעתה]

yid·da‘·tāh

-

[שחר]

ša·ḥar

-

(יִדַּ֖עְתָּה‪‬)

yid·da‘·tā

[And] caused to know

(הַשַּׁ֣חַר)

haš·ša·ḥar

the dawn

– מְקֹמֽוֹ׃

mə·qō·mōw.

לֶ֭אֱחֹז

le·’ĕ·ḥōz

that it might take hold

בְּכַנְפ֣וֹת

bə·ḵan·p̄ō·wṯ

of the ends

､ הָאָ֑רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ;

of the earth ､

וְיִנָּעֲר֖וּ

wə·yin·nā·‘ă·rū

and be shaken

רְשָׁעִ֣‪‬ים

rə·šā·‘îm

. מִמֶּֽנָּה׃

mim·men·nāh.

out of it .

תִּ֭תְהַפֵּךְ

tiṯ·hap·pêḵ

It takes on form

כְּחֹ֣מֶר

kə·ḥō·mer

– חוֹתָ֑ם

ḥō·w·ṯām;

[under] a seal –

וְ֝יִֽתְיַצְּב֗וּ

wə·yiṯ·yaṣ·ṣə·ḇū,

כְּמ֣וֹ

kə·mōw

. לְבֽוּשׁ׃

lə·ḇūš.

､ וְיִמָּנַ֣ע

wə·yim·mā·na‘

And is withheld ､

מֵרְשָׁעִ֣‪‬ים

mê·rə·šā·‘îm

from the wicked

אוֹרָ֑ם

’ō·w·rām;

וּזְר֥וֹעַ

ū·zə·rō·w·a‘

and the arm

רָ֝מָ֗ה

rā·māh,

. תִּשָּׁבֵֽר׃

tiš·šā·ḇêr.

הֲ֭בָאתָ

hă·ḇā·ṯā

Have you entered

עַד־

‘aḏ-

נִבְכֵי־

niḇ·ḵê-

؟ יָ֑ם

yām;

of the sea ؟

וּבְחֵ֥קֶר

ū·ḇə·ḥê·qer

Or in search

תְּ֝ה֗וֹם

tə·hō·wm,

of the depths

؟ הִתְהַלָּֽכְתָּ׃

hiṯ·hal·lā·ḵə·tā.

have you walked ؟

הֲנִגְל֣וּ

hă·niḡ·lū

have been revealed

לְ֭ךָ

to you

שַׁעֲרֵי־

ša·‘ă·rê-

מָ֑וֶת

mā·weṯ;

וְשַׁעֲרֵ֖י

wə·ša·‘ă·rê

Or the doors

צַלְמָ֣וֶת

ṣal·mā·weṯ

of the shadow of death

؟ תִּרְאֶֽה׃

tir·’eh.

have you seen ؟

הִ֭תְבֹּנַנְתָּ

hiṯ·bō·nan·tā

have you comprehended

עַד־

רַחֲבֵי־

ra·ḥă·ḇê-

؟ אָ֑רֶץ

of the earth ؟

הַ֝גֵּ֗ד

נְתִיב֥וֹת

the paths [to]

יָ֭דַעְתָּ

yā·ḏa‘·tā

Do you know [it]

כִּי־

אָ֣ז

’āz

؟ תִּוָּלֵ֑ד

tiw·wā·lêḏ;

you were born ؟

וּמִסְפַּ֖ר

ū·mis·par

Or [because] the number

יָמֶ֣יךָ

yā·me·ḵā

of your days [is]

؟ רַבִּֽים׃

rab·bîm.

הֲ֭בָאתָ

hă·ḇā·ṯā

have you entered

אֶל־

’el-

אֹצְר֣וֹת

’ō·ṣə·rō·wṯ

؟ שָׁ֑לֶג

šā·leḡ;

of snow ؟

וְאֹצְר֖וֹת

wə·’ō·ṣə·rō·wṯ

Or the treasury

､ בָּרָ֣ד

bā·rāḏ

of hail ､

. תִּרְאֶֽה׃

tir·’eh.

have you seen .

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

חָשַׂ֥כְתִּי

ḥā·śaḵ·tî

I have reserved

לְעֶת־

lə·‘eṯ-

､ צָ֑ר

ṣār;

of trouble ､

לְי֥וֹם

lə·yō·wm

קְ֝רָ֗ב

qə·rāḇ,

؟ וּמִלְחָמָֽה׃

ū·mil·ḥā·māh.

and war ؟

אֵי־

’ê-

זֶ֣ה

is diffused ､

the earth ؟

for the overflowing [water] ､

תְּעָלָ֑ה

tə·‘ā·lāh;

וְ֝דֶ֗רֶךְ

Or a path

לַחֲזִ֥יז

la·ḥă·zîz

– קֹלֽוֹת׃

qō·lō·wṯ.

the thunderbolt –

לְ֭הַמְטִיר

lə·ham·ṭîr

to cause it to rain

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ אֶ֣רֶץ

’e·reṣ

a land ､

לֹא־

lō-

no

אִ֑ישׁ

’îš;

[where there is] one

､ מִ֝דְבָּ֗ר

miḏ·bār,

a wilderness ､

לֹא־

lō-

no

– אָדָ֥ם

’ā·ḏām

[there is] man –

. בּֽוֹ׃

bōw.

in which .

לְהַשְׂבִּ֣יעַ

lə·haś·bî·a‘

שֹׁ֭אָה

šō·’āh

וּמְשֹׁאָ֑ה

ū·mə·šō·’āh;

؟ וּ֝לְהַצְמִ֗יחַ

ū·lə·haṣ·mî·aḥ,

and cause to spring forth ؟

מֹ֣צָא

mō·ṣā

. דֶֽשֶׁא׃

ḏe·še.

of tender grass .

הֲיֵשׁ־

hă·yêš-

לַמָּטָ֥ר

lam·mā·ṭār

the rain

؟ אָ֑ב

’āḇ;

א֥וֹ

’ōw

Or

ה֝וֹלִ֗יד

אֶגְלֵי־

’eḡ·lê-

؟ טָֽל׃

of dew ؟

מַעֲדַנּ֣וֹת

of the Pleiades ､

the belt

כְּסִ֣יל

؟ תְּפַתֵּֽחַ׃

tə·p̄at·tê·aḥ.

הֲתֹצִ֣יא

can you bring out

מַזָּר֣וֹת

maz·zā·rō·wṯ

؟ בְּעִתּ֑וֹ

bə·‘it·tōw;

in its season ؟

וְ֝עַ֗יִשׁ

wə·‘a·yiš,

Or the Great Bear

עַל־

‘al-

with

בָּנֶ֥יהָ

bā·ne·hā

؟ תַנְחֵֽם׃

ṯan·ḥêm.

can you guide ؟

הֲ֭יָדַעְתָּ

hă·yā·ḏa‘·tā

חֻקּ֣וֹת

ḥuq·qō·wṯ

؟ שָׁמָ֑יִם

šā·mā·yim;

of the heavens ؟

אִם־

תָּשִׂ֖ים

מִשְׁטָר֣וֹ

miš·ṭā·rōw

؟ בָאָֽרֶץ׃

ḇā·’ā·reṣ.

over the earth ؟

הֲתָרִ֣ים

can you lift up

､ לָעָ֣ב

lā·‘āḇ

to the clouds ､

קוֹלֶ֑ךָ

qō·w·le·ḵā;

וְֽשִׁפְעַת־

wə·šip̄·‘aṯ-

that an abundance

מַ֥יִם

ma·yim

. תְּכַסֶּֽךָּ׃

tə·ḵas·se·kā.

may cover you .

הַֽתְשַׁלַּ֣ח

haṯ·šal·laḥ

Can you send out

､ בְּרָקִ֣ים

bə·rā·qîm

､ וְיֵלֵ֑כוּ

wə·yê·lê·ḵū;

that they may go ､

וְיֹאמְר֖וּ

wə·yō·mə·rū

and say

לְךָ֣

lə·ḵā

to you

. הִנֵּֽנוּ׃

hin·nê·nū.

Here we [are] .

the dust

､ לַמּוּצָ֑ק

in clumps ､

וּרְגָבִ֥ים

and the clods

؟ יְדֻבָּֽקוּ׃

yə·ḏub·bā·qū.

cling together ؟

הֲתָצ֣וּד

hă·ṯā·ṣūḏ

؟ לְלָבִ֣יא

lə·lā·ḇî

for the lion ؟

טָ֑רֶף

ṭā·rep̄;

the prey

וְחַיַּ֖ת

wə·ḥay·yaṯ

Or the appetite

､ כְּפִירִ֣ים

kə·p̄î·rîm

of the young lions ､

. תְּמַלֵּֽא׃

tə·mal·lê.

כִּי־

יָשֹׁ֥חוּ

yā·šō·ḥū

､ בַמְּעוֹנ֑וֹת

ḇam·mə·‘ō·w·nō·wṯ;

in [their] dens ､

יֵשְׁב֖וּ

[Or] lurk

בַסֻּכָּ֣ה

לְמוֹ־

to

؟ אָֽרֶב׃

’ā·reḇ.

lie in wait ؟

לָעֹרֵ֗ב

lā·‘ō·rêḇ,

؟ צֵ֫יד֥וֹ
