You Have Searched Me and Know Me

､ לַ֭מְנַצֵּחַ

lam·naṣ·ṣê·aḥ

lə·ḏā·wiḏ

מִזְמ֑וֹר

miz·mō·wr;

､ יְהוָ֥ה

Yah·weh

חֲ֝קַרְתַּ֗נִי

ḥă·qar·ta·nî,

You have searched me

. וַתֵּדָֽע׃

wat·tê·ḏā‘.

and known [me] .

אַתָּ֣ה

’at·tāh

יָ֭דַעְתָּ

yā·ḏa‘·tā

שִׁבְתִּ֣י

šiḇ·tî

my sitting down

､ וְקוּמִ֑י

wə·qū·mî;

and my rising up ､

בַּ֥נְתָּה

ban·tāh

לְ֝רֵעִ֗י

lə·rê·‘î,

. מֵרָחֽוֹק׃

mê·rā·ḥō·wq.

אָרְחִ֣י

’ā·rə·ḥî

､ וְרִבְעִ֣י

wə·riḇ·‘î

and my lying down ､

זֵרִ֑יתָ

zê·rî·ṯā;

וְֽכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and all

דְּרָכַ֥י

də·rā·ḵay

. הִסְכַּֽנְתָּה׃

his·kan·tāh.

are acquainted [with] .

כִּ֤י

kî

אֵ֣ין

’ên

[there is] not

מִ֭לָּה

mil·lāh

､ בִּלְשׁוֹנִ֑י

bil·šō·w·nî;

on my tongue ､

､ הֵ֥ן

hên

[But] behold ､

､ יְ֝הוָ֗ה

Yah·weh

יָדַ֥עְתָּ

yā·ḏa‘·tā

. כֻלָּֽהּ׃

ḵul·lāh.

it altogether .

אָח֣וֹר

’ā·ḥō·wr

､ וָקֶ֣דֶם

wā·qe·ḏem

and before ､

צַרְתָּ֑נִי

ṣar·tā·nî;

You have hedged me

וַתָּ֖שֶׁת

wat·tā·šeṯ

and laid

עָלַ֣י

‘ā·lay

. כַּפֶּֽכָה׃

kap·pe·ḵāh.

[פלאיה]

pil·’î·yāh

-

(פְּלִ֣יאָֽה)

pə·lî·’āh

דַ֣עַת

ḏa·‘aṯ

[Such] knowledge [is]

מִמֶּ֑נִּי

mim·men·nî;

for me

､ נִ֝שְׂגְּבָ֗ה

niś·gə·ḇāh,

it is high ､

לֹא־

lō-

א֥וּכַֽל

’ū·ḵal

. לָֽהּ׃

lāh.

it .

אָ֭נָ֥ה

’ā·nāh

אֵלֵ֣ךְ

’ê·lêḵ

can I go

؟ מֵרוּחֶ֑ךָ

mê·rū·ḥe·ḵā;

from Your Spirit ؟

וְ֝אָ֗נָה

wə·’ā·nāh,

מִפָּנֶ֥יךָ

mip·pā·ne·ḵā

from Your presence

؟ אֶבְרָֽח׃

’eḇ·rāḥ.

אִם־

’im-

if

אֶסַּ֣ק

’es·saq

､ שָׁ֭מַיִם

ma·yim

into heaven ､

– שָׁ֣ם

šām

אָ֑תָּה

’āt·tāh;

וְאַצִּ֖יעָה

wə·’aṣ·ṣî·‘āh

and if I make my bed

､ שְּׁא֣וֹל

šə·’ō·wl

in hell ､

. הִנֶּֽךָּ׃

hin·ne·kā.

behold You [are there] .

אֶשָּׂ֥א

’eś·śā

[If] I take

כַנְפֵי־

ḵan·p̄ê-

､ שָׁ֑חַר

šā·ḥar;

of the morning ､

אֶ֝שְׁכְּנָ֗ה

’eš·kə·nāh,

[And] dwell

בְּאַחֲרִ֥ית

bə·’a·ḥă·rîṯ

in the uttermost parts

– יָֽם׃

yām.

of the sea –

גַּם־

ga·mō·šā-

שָׁ֭ם

m

יָדְךָ֣

yā·ḏə·ḵā

תַנְחֵ֑נִי

ṯan·ḥê·nî;

וְֽתֹאחֲזֵ֥נִי

wə·ṯō·ḥă·zê·nî

and shall hold me

. יְמִינֶֽךָ׃

yə·mî·ne·ḵā.

Your right hand .

､ וָ֭אֹמַר

wā·’ō·mar

And if I say ､

אַךְ־

’aḵ-

חֹ֣שֶׁךְ

ḥō·šeḵ

יְשׁוּפֵ֑נִי

yə·šū·p̄ê·nî;

shall fall on me

וְ֝לַ֗יְלָה

wə·lay·lāh,

and Even the night

א֣וֹר

’ō·wr

. בַּעֲדֵֽנִי׃

ba·‘ă·ḏê·nî.

about me .

､ גַּם־

gam-

חֹשֶׁךְ֮

ḥō·šeḵ

לֹֽא־

lō-

not

יַחְשִׁ֪יךְ

yaḥ·šîḵ

מִ֫מֶּ֥ךָ

mim·me·ḵā

וְ֭לַיְלָה

wə·lay·lāh

but the night

. כַּיּ֣וֹם

kay·yō·wm

as the day .

יָאִ֑יר

yā·’îr;

כַּ֝חֲשֵׁיכָ֗ה

ka·ḥă·šê·ḵāh,

. כָּאוֹרָֽה׃

kā·’ō·w·rāh.

both alike [to You] the and light [are] .

כִּֽי־

kî-

אַ֭תָּה

’at·tāh

קָנִ֣יתָ

qā·nî·ṯā

– כִלְיֹתָ֑י

ḵil·yō·ṯāy;

my inward parts –

תְּ֝סֻכֵּ֗נִי

tə·suk·kê·nî,

בְּבֶ֣טֶן

bə·ḇe·ṭen

. אִמִּֽי׃

’im·mî.

of my mother .

אֽוֹדְךָ֗

’ō·wḏ·ḵā,

I will praise You

עַ֤ל

‘al

כִּ֥י

kî

נוֹרָא֗וֹת

nō·w·rā·’ō·wṯ,

נִ֫פְלֵ֥יתִי

nip̄·lê·ṯî

[and] wonderfully made

נִפְלָאִ֥ים

nip̄·lā·’îm

Marvelous [are]

– מַעֲשֶׂ֑יךָ

ma·‘ă·śe·ḵā;

וְ֝נַפְשִׁ֗י

wə·nap̄·šî,

and [that] my soul

יֹדַ֥עַת

yō·ḏa·‘aṯ

. מְאֹֽד׃

mə·’ōḏ.

לֹא־

lō-

Not

נִכְחַ֥ד

niḵ·ḥaḏ

עָצְמִ֗י

‘ā·ṣə·mî,

מִ֫מֶּ֥ךָּ

mim·me·kā

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

עֻשֵּׂ֥יתִי

‘uś·śê·ṯî

､ בַסֵּ֑תֶר

ḇas·sê·ṯer;

in secret ､

רֻ֝קַּ֗מְתִּי

ruq·qam·tî,

[And] skillfully wrought

בְּֽתַחְתִּיּ֥וֹת

bə·ṯaḥ·tî·yō·wṯ

in the lowest parts

. אָֽרֶץ׃

’ā·reṣ.

of the earth .

– גָּלְמִ֤י ׀

gā·lə·mî

My [substance being] yet unformed –

רָ֘א֤וּ

rā·’ū

עֵינֶ֗יךָ

‘ê·ne·ḵā,

וְעַֽל־

wə·‘al-

and in

סִפְרְךָ֮

sip̄·rə·ḵā

כֻּלָּ֪ם

kul·lām

､ יִכָּ֫תֵ֥בוּ

yik·kā·ṯê·ḇū

they were written ､

יָמִ֥ים

yā·mîm

the days

､ יֻצָּ֑רוּ

yuṣ·ṣā·rū;

fashioned for me ､

[ולא]

wə·lō

-

(וְל֖וֹ)

wə·lōw

when [as yet there were] not

אֶחָ֣ד

’e·ḥāḏ

. בָּהֶֽם׃

bā·hem.

of them .

וְלִ֗י

wə·lî,

And to me

מַה־

mah-

יָּקְר֣וּ

yā·qə·rū

רֵעֶ֣יךָ

rê·‘e·ḵā

! אֵ֑ל

’êl;

מֶ֥ה

meh

עָ֝צְמוּ

‘ā·ṣə·mū

. רָאשֵׁיהֶֽם׃

rā·šê·hem.

the sum of them .

אֶ֭סְפְּרֵם

’es·pə·rêm

[If] I should count them

. מֵח֣וֹל

mê·ḥō·wl

than the sand .

יִרְבּ֑וּן

yir·būn;

They would be more in number

､ הֱ֝קִיצֹ֗תִי

hĕ·qî·ṣō·ṯî,

when I awake ､

וְעוֹדִ֥י

wə·‘ō·w·ḏî

and I am still

. עִמָּֽךְ׃

‘im·māḵ.

with You .

אִם־

’im-

תִּקְטֹ֖ל

tiq·ṭōl

– אֱל֥וֹהַּ ׀

’ĕ·lō·w·ah

God –

､ רָשָׁ֑ע

rā·šā‘;

the wicked ､

וְאַנְשֵׁ֥י

wə·’an·šê

therefore you men

דָ֝מִ֗ים

ḏā·mîm,

ס֣וּרוּ

sū·rū

. מֶֽנִּי׃

men·nî.

from me .

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

יֹ֭אמְרֻךָ

yō·mə·ru·ḵā

they speak against You

､ לִמְזִמָּ֑ה

lim·zim·māh;

נָשֻׂ֖א

nā·śu

take [Your name]

לַשָּׁ֣וְא

laš·šāw

. עָרֶֽיךָ׃

‘ā·re·ḵā.

הֲלֽוֹא־

hă·lō·w-

Do not

מְשַׂנְאֶ֖יךָ

mə·śan·’e·ḵā

them who hate You

､ יְהוָ֥ה ׀

Yah·weh

אֶשְׂנָ֑א

’eś·nā;

וּ֝בִתְקוֹמְמֶ֗יךָ

ū·ḇiṯ·qō·wm·me·ḵā,

and those who rise up against You

. אֶתְקוֹטָֽט׃

’eṯ·qō·w·ṭāṭ.

do I not loathe .

תַּכְלִ֣ית

taḵ·lîṯ

– שִׂנְאָ֣ה

śin·’āh

שְׂנֵאתִ֑ים

śə·nê·ṯîm;

לְ֝אוֹיְבִ֗ים

lə·’ō·wy·ḇîm,

הָ֣יוּ

hā·yū

. לִֽי׃

lî.

I .

חָקְרֵ֣נִי

ḥā·qə·rê·nî

､ אֵ֭ל

’êl

God ､

וְדַ֣ע

wə·ḏa‘

and know

– לְבָבִ֑י

lə·ḇā·ḇî;

my heart –

בְּ֝חָנֵ֗נִי

bə·ḥā·nê·nî,

Try me

וְדַ֣ע

wə·ḏa‘

and know

– שַׂרְעַפָּֽי׃

śar·‘ap·pāy.

my anxieties –

וּרְאֵ֗ה

ū·rə·’êh,

and see

אִם־

’im-

if [there is any]

דֶּֽרֶךְ־

de·reḵ-

עֹ֥צֶב

‘ō·ṣeḇ

בִּ֑י

bî;

in me

וּ֝נְחֵ֗נִי

ū·nə·ḥê·nî,

and lead me

בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ

bə·ḏe·reḵ

in the way

. עוֹלָֽם׃

‘ō·w·lām.
