The Providence of God

､ לְדָוִ֗ד

lə·ḏā·wiḏ,

A Psalm of David ､

. מַ֫שְׂכִּ֥יל

a Contemplation .

אַשְׁרֵ֥י

’aš·rê

Blessed [is he]

､ נְֽשׂוּי־

nə·śui-

[is] forgiven ､

פֶּ֗שַׁע

pe·ša‘,

[whose] transgression

כְּס֣וּי

kə·sui

. חֲטָאָֽה׃

ḥă·ṭā·’āh.

אַ֥שְֽׁרֵי

’aš·rê

אָדָ֗ם

’ā·ḏām,

the man

לֹ֤א

lō

not

יַחְשֹׁ֬ב

yaḥ·šōḇ

יְהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

ל֣וֹ

lōw

､ עָוֺ֑ן

‘ā·wōn;

וְאֵ֖ין

wə·’ên

and [there is] no

בְּרוּח֣וֹ

bə·rū·ḥōw

in whose spirit

. רְמִיָּה׃‪‬

rə·mî·yāh

כִּֽי־

kî-

､ הֶ֭חֱרַשְׁתִּי

he·ḥĕ·raš·tî

I kept silent ､

בָּל֣וּ

bā·lū

עֲצָמָ֑י

‘ă·ṣā·māy;

בְּ֝שַׁאֲגָתִ֗י

bə·ša·’ă·ḡā·ṯî,

Through my groaning

כָּל־

kāl-

. הַיּֽוֹם׃

hay·yō·wm.

the day long .

כִּ֤י ׀

kî

יוֹמָ֣ם

yō·w·mām

וָלַיְלָה֮

wā·lay·lāh

תִּכְבַּ֥ד

tiḵ·baḏ

עָלַ֗י

‘ā·lay,

יָ֫דֶ֥ךָ

yā·ḏe·ḵā

נֶהְפַּ֥ךְ

neh·paḵ

לְשַׁדִּ֑י

lə·šad·dî;

בְּחַרְבֹ֖נֵי

bə·ḥar·ḇō·nê

into the drought

. קַ֣יִץ

qa·yiṣ

. סֶֽלָה׃

se·lāh.

חַטָּאתִ֨י

ḥaṭ·ṭā·ṯî

My sin

אוֹדִ֪יעֲךָ֡

’ō·w·ḏî·‘ă·ḵā

I acknowledged to You

וַעֲוֺ֘נִ֤י

wa·‘ă·wō·nî

and my iniquity

לֹֽא־

lō-

not

. כִסִּ֗יתִי

ḵis·sî·ṯî,

I have hidden .

､ אָמַ֗רְתִּי

’ā·mar·tî,

I said ､

אוֹדֶ֤ה

’ō·w·ḏeh

I will confess

עֲלֵ֣י

‘ă·lê

on

פְ֭שָׁעַי

p̄ə·šā·‘ay

my transgressions

– לַיהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

to Yahweh –

וְאַתָּ֨ה

wə·’at·tāh

and You

נָ֘שָׂ֤אתָ

nā·śā·ṯā

עֲוֺ֖ן

‘ă·wōn

. חַטָּאתִ֣י

ḥaṭ·ṭā·ṯî

of my sin .

. סֶֽלָה׃

se·lāh.

עַל־

‘al-

זֹ֡את

zōṯ

יִתְפַּלֵּ֬ל

yiṯ·pal·lêl

כָּל־

kāl-

חָסִ֨יד ׀

ḥā·sîḏ

אֵלֶיךָ֮

’ê·le·ḵā

to You

לְעֵ֪ת

lə·‘êṯ

in a time

– מְ֫צֹ֥א

mə·ṣō

when You may be found –

רַ֗ק

raq,

לְ֭שֵׁטֶף

lə·šê·ṭep̄

in a flood

מַ֣יִם

ma·yim

רַבִּ֑ים

rab·bîm;

אֵ֝לָ֗יו

’ê·lāw,

לֹ֣א

lō

not

. יַגִּֽיעוּ׃

yag·gî·‘ū.

they shall come .

אַתָּ֤ה ׀

’at·tāh

– סֵ֥תֶר

sê·ṯer

hiding place –

לִי֮

lî

my

– מִצַּ֪ר

miṣ·ṣar

from trouble –

תִּ֫צְּרֵ֥נִי

tiṣ·ṣə·rê·nî

You shall preserve me

רָנֵּ֥י

rān·nê

with songs

פַלֵּ֑ט

p̄al·lêṭ;

תְּס֖וֹבְבֵ֣נִי

tə·sō·wḇ·ḇê·nî

You shall surround me

. סֶֽלָה׃

se·lāh.

אַשְׂכִּֽילְךָ֨ ׀

’aś·kî·lə·ḵā

I will instruct you

וְֽאוֹרְךָ֗

wə·’ō·wr·ḵā,

בְּדֶֽרֶךְ־

bə·ḏe·reḵ-

in the way

ז֥וּ

zū

– תֵלֵ֑ךְ

ṯê·lêḵ;

you should go –

אִֽיעֲצָ֖ה

’î·‘ă·ṣāh

I will guide

עָלֶ֣יךָ

‘ā·le·ḵā

. עֵינִֽי׃

‘ê·nî.

with My eye .

אַל־

’al-

Do not

תִּֽהְי֤וּ ׀

tih·yū

be

､ כְּס֥וּס

kə·sūs

like the horse ､

､ כְּפֶרֶד֮

kə·p̄e·reḏ

[or] like the mule ､

אֵ֤ין

’ên

[Which] have no

､ הָ֫בִ֥ין

hā·ḇîn

understanding ､

בְּמֶֽתֶג־

bə·me·ṯeḡ-

with bit

､ וָרֶ֣סֶן

wā·re·sen

and bridle ､

עֶדְי֣וֹ

‘eḏ·yōw

לִבְל֑וֹם

liḇ·lō·wm;

which must be harnessed

בַּ֝֗ל

bal,

קְרֹ֣ב

qə·rōḇ

they will not come near

. אֵלֶֽיךָ׃

’ê·le·ḵā.

רַבִּ֥ים

rab·bîm

מַכְאוֹבִ֗ים

maḵ·’ō·w·ḇîm,

sorrows [shall be]

､ לָרָ֫שָׁ֥ע

lā·rā·šā‘

to the wicked ､

וְהַבּוֹטֵ֥חַ

wə·hab·bō·w·ṭê·aḥ

but he who trusts

､ בַּיהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

in Yahweh ､

חֶ֝֗סֶד

ḥe·seḏ,

. יְסוֹבְבֶֽנּוּ׃

yə·sō·wḇ·ḇen·nū.

shall surround him .

שִׂמְח֬וּ

śim·ḥū

､ בַֽיהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

in Yahweh ､

､ וְ֭גִילוּ

wə·ḡî·lū

and rejoice ､

– צַדִּיקִ֑ים

ṣad·dî·qîm;

you righteous –

､ וְ֝הַרְנִ֗ינוּ

wə·har·nî·nū,

and shout for joy ､

כָּל־

kāl-

יִשְׁרֵי־

yiš·rê-

. לֵֽב׃

lêḇ.
