Cast Your Cares on the Lord

לַמְנַצֵּ֥חַ

lam·naṣ·ṣê·aḥ

To the Chief Musician

､ בִּנְגִינֹ֗ת

bin·ḡî·nōṯ,

with stringed instruments ､

､ מַשְׂכִּ֥יל

maś·kîl

a Contemplation ､

. לְדָוִֽד׃

lə·ḏā·wiḏ.

of David .

הַאֲזִ֣ינָה

ha·’ă·zî·nāh

– אֱ֭לֹהִים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

God –

､ תְּפִלָּתִ֑י

tə·p̄il·lā·ṯî;

to my prayer ､

וְאַל־

wə·’al-

and not

תִּ֝תְעַלַּ֗ם

tiṯ·‘al·lam,

do hide Yourself

. מִתְּחִנָּתִֽי׃

mit·tə·ḥin·nā·ṯî.

from my supplication .

הַקְשִׁ֣יבָה

haq·šî·ḇāh

לִּ֣י

lî

to me

וַעֲנֵ֑נִי

wa·‘ă·nê·nî;

and hear me

אָרִ֖יד

’ā·rîḏ

､ בְּשִׂיחִ֣י

bə·śî·ḥî

in my complaint ､

– וְאָהִֽימָה׃

wə·’ā·hî·māh.

and moan noisily –

מִקּ֤וֹל

miq·qō·wl

because of the voice

､ אוֹיֵ֗ב

’ō·w·yêḇ,

of the enemy ､

מִפְּנֵ֣י

mip·pə·nê

עָקַ֣ת

‘ā·qaṯ

of the oppression

– רָשָׁ֑ע

rā·šā‘;

of the wicked –

כִּי־

kî-

יָמִ֥יטוּ

yā·mî·ṭū

they bring down

עָלַ֥י

‘ā·lay

אָ֝֗וֶן

’ā·wen,

וּבְאַ֥ף

ū·ḇə·’ap̄

and in wrath

. יִשְׂטְמֽוּנִי׃

yiś·ṭə·mū·nî.

לִ֭בִּי

lib·bî

יָחִ֣יל

yā·ḥîl

is severely pained

בְּקִרְבִּ֑י

bə·qir·bî;

וְאֵימ֥וֹת

wə·’ê·mō·wṯ

and the terrors

מָ֝֗וֶת

mā·weṯ,

נָפְל֥וּ

nā·p̄ə·lū

. עָלָֽי׃

‘ā·lāy.

upon me .

יִרְאָ֣ה

yir·’āh

וָ֭רַעַד

wā·ra·‘aḏ

יָ֣בֹא

yā·ḇō

בִ֑י

ḇî;

וַ֝תְּכַסֵּ֗נִי

wat·tə·ḵas·sê·nî,

and has overwhelmed me

. פַּלָּצֽוּת׃

pal·lā·ṣūṯ.

､ וָאֹמַ֗ר

wā·’ō·mar,

So I said ､

מִֽי־

mî-

יִתֶּן־

yit·ten-

לִּ֣י

lî

to

אֵ֭בֶר

’ê·ḇer

! כַּיּוֹנָ֗ה

kay·yō·w·nāh,

､ אָע֥וּפָה

’ā·‘ū·p̄āh

I would fly away ､

. וְאֶשְׁכֹּֽנָה׃

wə·’eš·kō·nāh.

and be at rest .

､ הִ֭נֵּה

hin·nêh

､ אַרְחִ֣יק

’ar·ḥîq

נְדֹ֑ד

nə·ḏōḏ;

אָלִ֖ין

’ā·lîn

[And] remain

. בַּמִּדְבָּ֣ר

bam·miḏ·bār

in the wilderness .

. סֶֽלָה׃

se·lāh.

אָחִ֣ישָׁה

’ā·ḥî·šāh

מִפְלָ֣ט

mip̄·lāṭ

לִ֑י

lî;

מֵר֖וּחַ

mê·rū·aḥ

סֹעָ֣ה

sō·‘āh

. מִסָּֽעַר׃

mis·sā·‘ar.

[and] tempest .

､ בַּלַּ֣ע

bal·la‘

､ אֲ֭דֹנָי

’ă·ḏō·nāy

Lord ､

פַּלַּ֣ג

pal·laḡ

[and] divide

､ לְשׁוֹנָ֑ם

lə·šō·w·nām;

their tongues ､

כִּֽי־

kî-

רָאִ֨יתִי

rā·’î·ṯî

חָמָ֖ס

ḥā·mās

וְרִ֣יב

wə·rîḇ

. בָּעִֽיר׃

bā·‘îr.

in the city .

יוֹמָ֤ם

yō·w·mām

וָלַ֗יְלָה

wā·lay·lāh,

יְסוֹבְבֻ֥הָ

yə·sō·wḇ·ḇu·hā

they go around it

עַל־

‘al-

on

חוֹמֹתֶ֑יהָ

ḥō·w·mō·ṯe·hā;

וְאָ֖וֶן

wə·’ā·wen

וְעָמָ֣ל

wə·‘ā·māl

and trouble [are]

. בְּקִרְבָּֽהּ׃

bə·qir·bāh.

in the midst of it .

הַוּ֥וֹת

haw·wō·wṯ

Destruction [is]

בְּקִרְבָּ֑הּ

bə·qir·bāh;

וְֽלֹא־

wə·lō-

and not

יָמִ֥ישׁ

yā·mîš

מֵ֝רְחֹבָ֗הּ

mê·rə·ḥō·ḇāh,

from its streets

תֹּ֣ךְ

tōḵ

. וּמִרְמָֽה׃

ū·mir·māh.

and deceit .

כִּ֤י

kî

לֹֽא־

lō-

[it is] not

אוֹיֵ֥ב

’ō·w·yêḇ

יְחָֽרְפֵ֗נִי

yə·ḥā·rə·p̄ê·nî,

[who] reproaches me

וְאֶ֫שָּׂ֥א

wə·’eś·śā

and I could bear [it]

לֹֽא־

lō-

nor [is it]

מְ֭שַׂנְאִי

mə·śan·’î

one [who] hates me

עָלַ֣י

‘ā·lay

הִגְדִּ֑יל

hiḡ·dîl;

who has exalted [himself]

וְאֶסָּתֵ֥ר

wə·’es·sā·ṯêr

and I could hide

. מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃

mim·men·nū.

､ וְאַתָּ֣ה

wə·’at·tāh

But [it was] you ､

אֱנ֣וֹשׁ

’ĕ·nō·wōš

､ כְּעֶרְכִּ֑י

kə·‘er·kî;

my equal ､

､ אַ֝לּוּפִ֗י

’al·lū·p̄î,

My companion ､

. וּמְיֻדָּֽעִי׃

ū·mə·yud·dā·‘î.

and my acquaintance .

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

We who

､ יַ֭חְדָּו

yaḥ·dāw

נַמְתִּ֣יק

nam·tîq

ס֑וֹד

sō·wḏ;

בְּבֵ֥ית

bə·ḇêṯ

to the house

אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm,

of God

נְהַלֵּ֥ךְ

nə·hal·lêḵ

[And] walked

. בְּרָֽגֶשׁ׃

bə·rā·ḡeš.

in the throng .

ישימות

yaš·šî·mā·weṯ

-

[יַשִּׁ֤י]

yaš·šî

(מָ֨וֶת ׀)

mā·weṯ

(עָלֵ֗ימוֹ)

‘ā·lê·mōw,

יֵרְד֣וּ

yê·rə·ḏū

let them go down

､ שְׁא֣וֹל

šə·’ō·wl

חַיִּ֑ים

ḥay·yîm;

כִּֽי־

kî-

רָע֖וֹת

rā·‘ō·wṯ

wickedness [is]

､ בִּמְגוּרָ֣ם

bim·ḡū·rām

in their dwellings ､

. בְּקִרְבָּֽם׃

bə·qir·bām.

[and] among them .

אֲ֭נִי

’ă·nî

I

אֶל־

’el-

– אֱלֹהִ֣ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

God –

אֶקְרָ֑א

’eq·rā;

will call

וַ֝יהוָ֗ה

Yah·weh

. יוֹשִׁיעֵֽנִי׃

yō·wō·šî·‘ê·nî.

shall save me .

､ עֶ֤רֶב

‘e·reḇ

､ וָבֹ֣קֶר

wā·ḇō·qer

and morning ､

､ וְ֭צָהֳרַיִם

wə·ṣā·ho·ra·yim

and at noon ､

､ אָשִׂ֣יחָה

’ā·śî·ḥāh

I will pray ､

､ וְאֶהֱמֶ֑ה

wə·’e·hĕ·meh;

and cry aloud ､

וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע

way·yiš·ma‘

and He shall hear

. קוֹלִֽי׃

qō·w·lî.

my voice .

פָּ֘דָ֤ה

pā·ḏāh

He has redeemed

בְשָׁל֣וֹם

ḇə·šā·lō·wm

נַ֭פְשִׁי

nap̄·šî

מִקֲּרָב־

miq·qă·rāḇ-

from the battle

לִ֑י

lî;

[that was] against me

כִּֽי־

kî-

בְ֝רַבִּ֗ים

ḇə·rab·bîm,

הָי֥וּ

hā·yū

. עִמָּדִֽי׃

‘im·mā·ḏî.

､ יִשְׁמַ֤ע ׀

yiš·ma‘

Will hear ､

אֵ֨ל ׀

’êl

וְֽיַעֲנֵם֮

wə·ya·‘ă·nêm

and afflict them

וְיֹ֤שֵׁ֥ב

wə·yō·šêḇ

and Even He who abides

. קֶ֗דֶם

qe·ḏem,

. סֶ֥לָה

se·lāh

אֲשֶׁ֤ר

’ă·šer

אֵ֣ין

’ên

not

､ חֲלִיפ֣וֹת

ḥă·lî·p̄ō·wṯ

do change ､

לָ֑מוֹ

lā·mōw;

וְלֹ֖א

wə·lō

יָרְא֣וּ

yā·rə·’ū

. אֱלֹהִֽים׃

’ĕ·lō·hîm.

שָׁלַ֣ח

šā·laḥ

He has put forth

יָ֭דָיו

yā·ḏāw

בִּשְׁלֹמָ֗יו

biš·lō·māw,

against those who were at peace with him

חִלֵּ֥ל

ḥil·lêl

. בְּרִיתֽוֹ׃

bə·rî·ṯōw.

חָלְק֤וּ ׀

ḥā·lə·qū

､ מַחְמָאֹ֣ת

maḥ·mā·’ōṯ

than butter ､

פִּיו֮

pîw

[The words] of his mouth

וּֽקֲרָב־

ū·qă·rāḇ-

but war [was]

– לִ֫בּ֥וֹ

lib·bōw

in his heart –

רַכּ֖וּ

rak·kū

דְבָרָ֥יו

ḏə·ḇā·rāw

､ מִשֶּׁ֗מֶן

miš·še·men,

וְהֵ֣מָּה

wə·hêm·māh

and yet they [were]

. פְתִחֽוֹת׃

p̄ə·ṯi·ḥō·wṯ.

הַשְׁלֵ֤ךְ

haš·lêḵ

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ יְהוָ֨ה ׀

Yah·weh

יְהָבְךָ֮

yə·hā·ḇə·ḵā

וְה֪וּא

wə·hū

and He

יְכַ֫לְכְּלֶ֥ךָ

yə·ḵal·kə·le·ḵā

shall sustain you

לֹא־

lō-

יִתֵּ֖ן

yit·tên

He shall permit

לְעוֹלָ֥ם

lə·‘ō·w·lām

to

מ֗וֹט

mō·wṭ,

. לַצַּדִּֽיק׃

laṣ·ṣad·dîq.

the righteous .

､ וְאַתָּ֤ה

wə·’at·tāh

But You ､

､ אֱלֹהִ֨ים ׀

’ĕ·lō·hîm

God ､

תּוֹרִדֵ֬ם ׀

tō·w·ri·ḏêm

shall bring them down

לִבְאֵ֬ר

liḇ·’êr

to the pit

– שַׁ֗חַת

ša·ḥaṯ,

of destruction –

אַנְשֵׁ֤י

’an·šê

דָמִ֣ים

ḏā·mîm

וּ֭מִרְמָה

ū·mir·māh

לֹא־

lō-

not

יֶחֱצ֣וּ

ye·ḥĕ·ṣū

shall live out half

– יְמֵיהֶ֑ם

yə·mê·hem;

וַ֝אֲנִ֗י

wa·’ă·nî,

but I

אֶבְטַח־

’eḇ·ṭaḥ-

will trust

. בָּֽךְ׃

bāḵ.

in You .
