In Distress, I Sought the Lord

､ לַמְנַצֵּ֥חַ

yə·ḏū·ṯūn,

of Asaph .

מִזְמֽוֹר׃

miz·mō·wr.

､ קוֹלִ֣י

qō·w·lî

with my voice ､

אֶל־

’el-

to

אֱלֹהִ֣ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

וְאֶצְעָ֑קָה

wə·’eṣ·‘ā·qāh;

and I cried out

– קוֹלִ֥י

qō·w·lî

with my voice –

אֶל־

’el-

to

אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm,

וְהַאֲזִ֥ין

wə·ha·’ă·zîn

and He gave ear

. אֵלָֽי׃

’ê·lāy.

to me .

בְּי֥וֹם

bə·yō·wm

In the day

צָרָתִי֮

ṣā·rā·ṯî

– אֲדֹנָ֪י

’ă·ḏō·nāy

the Lord –

דָּ֫רָ֥שְׁתִּי

dā·rā·šə·tî

יָדִ֤י ׀

yā·ḏî

､ לַ֣יְלָה

lay·lāh

in the night ､

נִ֭גְּרָה

nig·gə·rāh

was stretched out

– וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

and without –

תָפ֑וּג

ṯā·p̄ūḡ;

מֵאֲנָ֖ה

mê·’ă·nāh

הִנָּחֵ֣ם

hin·nā·ḥêm

to be comforted

. נַפְשִֽׁי׃

nap̄·šî.

My soul .

אֶזְכְּרָ֣ה

’ez·kə·rāh

､ אֱלֹהִ֣ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

God ､

– וְאֶֽהֱמָיָ֑ה

wə·’e·hĕ·mā·yāh;

and was troubled –

､ אָשִׂ֓יחָה ׀

’ā·śî·ḥāh

I complained ､

וְתִתְעַטֵּ֖ף

wə·ṯiṯ·‘aṭ·ṭêp̄

and was overwhelmed

רוּחִ֣י

rū·ḥî

. סֶֽלָה׃

se·lāh.

אָ֭חַזְתָּ

’ā·ḥaz·tā

– שְׁמֻר֣וֹת

šə·mu·rō·wṯ

[open ] –

עֵינָ֑י

‘ê·nāy;

נִ֝פְעַ֗מְתִּי

nip̄·‘am·tî,

I am so troubled

וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

. אֲדַבֵּֽר׃

’ă·ḏab·bêr.

חִשַּׁ֣בְתִּי

ḥiš·šaḇ·tî

I have considered

יָמִ֣ים

yā·mîm

the days

､ מִקֶּ֑דֶם

miq·qe·ḏem;

of old ､

שְׁ֝נ֗וֹת

nō·wṯ,

. עוֹלָמִֽים׃

‘ō·w·lā·mîm.

of ancient times .

אֶֽזְכְּרָ֥ה

’ez·kə·rāh

I call to remembrance

נְגִינָתִ֗י

nə·ḡî·nā·ṯî,

– בַּ֫לָּ֥יְלָה

bal·lā·yə·lāh

in the night –

עִם־

‘im-

､ לְבָבִ֥י

lə·ḇā·ḇî

my heart ､

אָשִׂ֑יחָה

’ā·śî·ḥāh;

וַיְחַפֵּ֥שׂ

way·ḥap·pêś

and makes diligent search

. רוּחִֽי׃

rū·ḥî.

؟ הַֽ֭לְעוֹלָמִים

hal·‘ō·w·lā·mîm

Will forever ؟

יִזְנַ֥ח ׀

yiz·naḥ

אֲדֹנָ֑י

’ă·ḏō·nāy;

the Lord

וְלֹֽא־

wə·lō-

and no

؟ יֹסִ֖יף

yō·sîp̄

will He more ؟

לִרְצ֣וֹת

lir·ṣō·wṯ

؟ עֽוֹד׃

‘ō·wḏ.

הֶאָפֵ֣ס

he·’ā·p̄ês

؟ לָנֶ֣צַח

lā·ne·ṣaḥ

חַסְדּ֑וֹ

ḥas·dōw;

גָּ֥מַר

gā·mar

אֹ֝֗מֶר

’ō·mer,

לְדֹ֣ר

lə·ḏōr

؟ וָדֹֽר׃

wā·ḏōr.

and forevermore ؟

הֲשָׁכַ֣ח

hă·šā·ḵaḥ

؟ חַנּ֣וֹת

ḥan·nō·wṯ

to be gracious ؟

אֵ֑ל

’êl;

אִם־

’im-

Or

קָפַ֥ץ

qā·p̄aṣ

Has He shut up

בְּ֝אַ֗ף

bə·’ap̄,

רַחֲמָ֥יו

ra·ḥă·māw

His tender mercies

؟ סֶֽלָה׃

se·lāh.

､ וָ֭אֹמַר

wā·’ō·mar

and I said ､

､ חַלּ֣וֹתִי

ḥal·lō·w·ṯî

my anguish ､

הִ֑יא

hî;

that [is]

שְׁ֝נ֗וֹת

nō·wṯ,

[But I will remember] the years

יְמִ֣ין

yə·mîn

of the right hand

. עֶלְיֽוֹן׃

‘el·yō·wn.

of the Most High .

אזכיר

’az·kîr

-

[אֶזְכּ֥וֹר]

’ez·kō·wr

I will remember

(מַֽעַלְלֵי־)

ma·‘al·lê-

– יָ֑הּ

yāh;

of YAH –

כִּֽי־

kî-

אֶזְכְּרָ֖ה

’ez·kə·rāh

I will remember

מִקֶּ֣דֶם

miq·qe·ḏem

of old

. פִּלְאֶֽךָ׃

pil·’e·ḵā.

וְהָגִ֥יתִי

wə·hā·ḡî·ṯî

And I will meditate

בְכָל־

ḇə·ḵāl-

on all

､ פָּעֳלֶ֑ךָ

pā·‘o·le·ḵā;

וּֽבַעֲלִ֖ילוֹתֶ֣יךָ

ū·ḇa·‘ă·lî·lō·w·ṯe·ḵā

and of Your deeds

. אָשִֽׂיחָה׃

’ā·śî·ḥāh.

､ אֱ֭לֹהִים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

God ､

– בַּקֹּ֣דֶשׁ

baq·qō·ḏeš

in the sanctuary –

､ דַּרְכֶּ֑ךָ

dar·ke·ḵā;

Your way [is] ､

מִי־

mî-

who [is]

אֵ֥ל

’êl

גָּ֝ד֗וֹל

gā·ḏō·wl,

؟ כֵּֽאלֹהִֽים׃

kê·lō·hîm.

as [our] God ؟

אַתָּ֣ה

’at·tāh

הָ֭אֵל

hā·’êl

the God

עֹ֣שֵׂה

‘ō·śêh

– פֶ֑לֶא

p̄e·le;

הוֹדַ֖עְתָּ

hō·w·ḏa‘·tā

You have declared

בָעַמִּ֣ים

ḇā·‘am·mîm

among the peoples

. עֻזֶּֽךָ׃

‘uz·ze·ḵā.

Your strength .

גָּאַ֣לְתָּ

gā·’al·tā

You have redeemed

בִּזְר֣וֹעַ

biz·rō·w·a‘

with [Your] arm

､ עַמֶּ֑ךָ

‘am·me·ḵā;

[Your] people ､

בְּנֵי־

bə·nê-

the sons

יַעֲקֹ֖ב

ya·‘ă·qōḇ

. וְיוֹסֵ֣ף

wə·yō·w·sêp̄

and Joseph .

. סֶֽלָה׃

se·lāh.

רָ֘א֤וּךָ

rā·’ū·ḵā

מַּ֨יִם ׀

ma·yim

､ אֱ‍ֽלֹהִ֗ים

’ĕlō·hîm,

God ､

רָא֣וּךָ

rā·’ū·ḵā

מַּ֣יִם

ma·yim

– יָחִ֑ילוּ

yā·ḥî·lū;

they were afraid –

אַ֝֗ף

’ap̄,

יִרְגְּז֥וּ

yir·gə·zū

. תְהֹמֽוֹת׃

ṯə·hō·mō·wṯ.

the depths .

זֹ֤רְמוּ

zō·rə·mū

– מַ֨יִם ׀

ma·yim

עָב֗וֹת

‘ā·ḇō·wṯ,

– ק֭וֹל

qō·wl

a sound –

נָתְנ֣וּ

nā·ṯə·nū

שְׁחָקִ֑ים

šə·ḥā·qîm;

אַף־

’ap̄-

חֲ֝צָצֶ֗יךָ

ḥă·ṣā·ṣe·ḵā,

. יִתְהַלָּֽכוּ׃

yiṯ·hal·lā·ḵū.

flashed about .

ק֤וֹל

qō·wl

רַעַמְךָ֨ ׀

ra·‘am·ḵā

of Your thunder

– בַּגַּלְגַּ֗ל

bag·gal·gal,

[was] in the whirlwind –

הֵאִ֣ירוּ

hê·’î·rū

lit up

בְרָקִ֣ים

ḇə·rā·qîm

– תֵּבֵ֑ל

tê·ḇêl;

the world –

רָגְזָ֖ה

rā·ḡə·zāh

וַתִּרְעַ֣שׁ

wat·tir·‘aš

. הָאָֽרֶץ׃

hā·’ā·reṣ.

the earth .

､ בַּיָּ֤ם

bay·yām

In the sea ､

דַּרְכֶּ֗ךָ

dar·ke·ḵā,

ושביליך

ū·šə·ḇî·le·ḵā

-

[וּֽ֭שְׁבִֽילְךָ]

ū·šə·ḇî·lə·ḵā

､ (בְּמַ֣יִם)

bə·ma·yim

in the waters ､

רַבִּ֑ים

rab·bîm;

וְ֝עִקְּבוֹתֶ֗יךָ

wə·‘iq·qə·ḇō·w·ṯe·ḵā,

and Your footsteps

לֹ֣א

lō

not

. נֹדָֽעוּ׃

nō·ḏā·‘ū.

נָחִ֣יתָ

nā·ḥî·ṯā

כַצֹּ֣אן

ḵaṣ·ṣōn

עַמֶּ֑ךָ

‘am·me·ḵā;

בְּֽיַד־

bə·yaḏ-

by the hand

מֹשֶׁ֥ה

mō·šeh

. וְאַהֲרֹֽן׃

wə·’a·hă·rōn.

and Aaron .
