､ עַ֭מִּי

‘am·mî

my people ､

– תּוֹרָתִ֑י

tō·w·rā·ṯî;

[to] my law –

הַטּ֥וּ

haṭ·ṭū

אָ֝זְנְכֶ֗ם

’ā·zə·nə·ḵem,

לְאִמְרֵי־

lə·’im·rê-

to the words

. פִֽי׃

of my mouth .

אֶפְתְּחָ֣ה

’ep̄·tə·ḥāh

I will open

– בְמָשָׁ֣ל

ḇə·mā·šāl

in a parable –

פִּ֑י

pî;

אַבִּ֥יעָה

’ab·bî·‘āh

I will utter

חִ֝יד֗וֹת

ḥî·ḏō·wṯ,

מִנִּי־

min·nî-

of

､ קֶֽדֶם׃

qe·ḏem.

old ､

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

שָׁ֭מַעְנוּ

ma‘·nū

､ וַנֵּדָעֵ֑ם

wan·nê·ḏā·‘êm;

and known ､

וַ֝אֲבוֹתֵ֗ינוּ

wa·’ă·ḇō·w·ṯê·nū,

and our fathers

סִפְּרוּ־

sip·pə·rū-

. לָֽנוּ׃

lā·nū.

Not

נְכַחֵ֨ד ׀

nə·ḵa·ḥêḏ

we will hide [them]

､ מִבְּנֵיהֶ֗ם

mib·bə·nê·hem,

from their children ､

לְד֥וֹר

lə·ḏō·wr

to the generation

אַחֲר֗וֹן

’a·ḥă·rō·wn,

מְֽ֭סַפְּרִים

mə·sap·pə·rîm

תְּהִלּ֣וֹת

tə·hil·lō·wṯ

､ יְהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

of Yahweh ､

､ וֶעֱזוּז֥וֹ

we·‘ĕ·zū·zōw

and His strength ､

וְ֝נִפְלְאוֹתָ֗יו

wə·nip̄·lə·’ō·w·ṯāw,

and His wonderful works

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

. עָשָֽׂה׃

‘ā·śāh.

וַיָּ֤קֶם

way·yā·qem

For He established

עֵד֨וּת ׀

‘ê·ḏūṯ

､ בְּֽיַעֲקֹ֗ב

bə·ya·‘ă·qōḇ,

in Jacob ､

וְתוֹרָה֮

wə·ṯō·w·rāh

and a law

שָׂ֤ם

śām

､ בְּיִשְׂרָ֫אֵ֥ל

bə·yiś·rā·’êl

in Israel ､

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

צִ֭וָּה

ṣiw·wāh

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ אֲבוֹתֵ֑ינוּ

’ă·ḇō·w·ṯê·nū;

our fathers ､

לְ֝הוֹדִיעָ֗ם

lə·hō·w·ḏî·‘ām,

that they should make them known

､ לִבְנֵיהֶֽם׃

liḇ·nê·hem.

to their children ､

לְמַ֤עַן

lə·ma·‘an

יֵדְע֨וּ ׀

yê·ḏə·‘ū

might know [them]

דּ֣וֹר

dō·wr

אַ֭חֲרוֹן

’a·ḥă·rō·wn

בָּנִ֣ים

bā·nîm

the sons

– יִוָּלֵ֑דוּ

yiw·wā·lê·ḏū;

[who] would be born –

יָ֝קֻ֗מוּ

yā·qu·mū,

[That] they may arise

וִֽיסַפְּר֥וּ

wî·sap·pə·rū

and declare [them]

､ לִבְנֵיהֶֽם׃

liḇ·nê·hem.

to their children ､

וְיָשִׂ֥ימוּ

wə·yā·śî·mū

that they may set

､ בֵֽאלֹהִ֗ים

ḇê·lō·hîm,

in God ､

כִּ֫סְלָ֥ם

kis·lām

וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

and not

יִ֭שְׁכְּחוּ

yiš·kə·ḥū

מַֽעַלְלֵי־

ma·‘al·lê-

､ אֵ֑ל

’êl;

of God ､

､ וּמִצְוֺתָ֥יו

ū·miṣ·wō·ṯāw

but His commandments ､

. יִנְצֹֽרוּ׃

yin·ṣō·rū.

וְלֹ֤א

wə·lō

And not

יִהְי֨וּ ׀

yih·yū

may be

､ כַּאֲבוֹתָ֗ם

ka·’ă·ḇō·w·ṯām,

like their fathers ､

– דּוֹר֮

dō·wr

a generation –

סוֹרֵ֪ר

sō·w·rêr

וּמֹ֫רֶ֥ה

ū·mō·reh

דּ֭וֹר

dō·wr

לֹא־

lō-

not

､ הֵכִ֣ין

hê·ḵîn

[that] did set aright ､

לִבּ֑וֹ

lib·bōw;

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

and not

נֶאֶמְנָ֖ה

ne·’em·nāh

אֶת־

’eṯ-

to

אֵ֣ל

’êl

. רוּחֽוֹ׃

rū·ḥōw.

בְּֽנֵי־

bə·nê-

The sons

､ אֶפְרַ֗יִם

’ep̄·ra·yim,

of Ephraim ､

､ נוֹשְׁקֵ֥י

nō·wō·šə·qê

[being] armed ､

רוֹמֵי־

rō·w·mê-

､ קָ֑שֶׁת

qā·šeṯ;

bows ､

הָ֝פְכ֗וּ

hā·p̄ə·ḵū,

בְּי֣וֹם

bə·yō·wm

in the day

. קְרָֽב׃

Not

שָׁ֭מְרוּ

､ אֱלֹהִ֑ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm;

of God ､

– וּ֝בְתוֹרָת֗וֹ

and in His law –

מֵאֲנ֥וּ

. לָלֶֽכֶת׃

lā·le·ḵeṯ.

to walk .

וַיִּשְׁכְּח֥וּ

way·yiš·kə·ḥū

､ עֲלִילוֹתָ֑יו

‘ă·lî·lō·w·ṯāw;

וְ֝נִפְלְאוֹתָ֗יו

wə·nip̄·lə·’ō·w·ṯāw,

and His wonders

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

. הֶרְאָֽם׃

her·’ām.

He had shown them .

נֶ֣גֶד

ne·ḡeḏ

In the sight

､ אֲ֭בוֹתָם

’ă·ḇō·w·ṯām

of their fathers ､

עָ֣שָׂה

‘ā·śāh

He did

פֶ֑לֶא

p̄e·le;

Marvelous things

בְּאֶ֖רֶץ

bə·’e·reṣ

in the land

､ מִצְרַ֣יִם

miṣ·ra·yim

of Egypt ､

שְׂדֵה־

śə·ḏêh-

[in] the field

. צֹֽעַן׃

ṣō·‘an.

of Zoan .

בָּ֣קַע

bā·qa‘

､ יָ֭ם

yām

the sea ､

– וַיַּֽעֲבִירֵ֑ם

way·ya·‘ă·ḇî·rêm;

and caused them to pass through –

וַֽיַּצֶּב־

way·yaṣ·ṣeḇ-

and He made stand up

מַ֥יִם

ma·yim

כְּמוֹ־

kə·mōw-

. נֵֽד׃

nêḏ.

a heap .

וַיַּנְחֵ֣ם

way·yan·ḥêm

And He led them

､ בֶּעָנָ֣ן

be·‘ā·nān

with the cloud ､

יוֹמָ֑ם

yō·w·mām;

in the daytime

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and all

הַ֝לַּ֗יְלָה

hal·lay·lāh,

בְּא֣וֹר

bə·’ō·wr

with a light

. אֵֽשׁ׃

’êš.

of fire .

יְבַקַּ֣ע

yə·ḇaq·qa‘

צֻ֭רִים

ṣu·rîm

､ בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר

bam·miḏ·bār;

in the wilderness ､

וַ֝יַּ֗שְׁקְ

way·yašq,

and gave [them] drink

כִּתְהֹמ֥וֹת

kiṯ·hō·mō·wṯ

like the depths

. רַבָּֽה׃

rab·bāh.

וַיּוֹצִ֣א

way·yō·w·ṣi

And He brought

נוֹזְלִ֣ים

nō·wz·lîm

､ מִסָּ֑לַע

mis·sā·la‘;

out of the rock ､

וַיּ֖וֹרֶד

way·yō·w·reḏ

and caused to run down

כַּנְּהָר֣וֹת

kan·nə·hā·rō·wṯ

. מָֽיִם׃

mā·yim.

וַיּוֹסִ֣יפוּ

way·yō·w·sî·p̄ū

But more

ע֭וֹד

‘ō·wḏ

לַחֲטֹא־

la·ḥă·ṭō-

ל֑וֹ

lōw;

לַֽמְר֥וֹת

lam·rō·wṯ

by rebelling against

עֶ֝לְי֗וֹן

‘el·yō·wn,

. בַּצִּיָּֽה׃

baṣ·ṣî·yāh.

in the wilderness .

וַיְנַסּוּ־

way·nas·sū-

And they tested

אֵ֥ל

’êl

בִּלְבָבָ֑ם

bil·ḇā·ḇām;

לִֽשְׁאָל־

liš·’āl-

אֹ֥כֶל

’ō·ḵel

the food

. לְנַפְשָֽׁם׃

lə·nap̄·šām.

of their fancy .

וַֽיְדַבְּר֗וּ

way·ḏab·bə·rū,

And Yes they spoke

– בֵּֽאלֹ֫הִ֥ים

bê·lō·hîm

against God –

､ אָ֭מְרוּ

’ā·mə·rū

הֲי֣וּכַל

hă·yū·ḵal

אֵ֑ל

’êl;

לַעֲרֹ֥ךְ

la·‘ă·rōḵ

שֻׁ֝לְחָ֗ן

lə·ḥān,

؟ בַּמִּדְבָּֽר׃

bam·miḏ·bār.

in the wilderness ؟

､ הֵ֤ן

hên

הִכָּה־

hik·kāh-

､ צ֨וּר ׀

ṣūr

the rock ､

､ וַיָּז֣וּבוּ

way·yā·zū·ḇū

so that gushed out ､

מַיִם֮

ma·yim

וּנְחָלִ֪ים

ū·nə·ḥā·lîm

and the streams

– יִ֫שְׁטֹ֥פוּ

yiš·ṭō·p̄ū

؟ הֲגַם־

hă·ḡam-

לֶ֭חֶם

le·ḥem

י֣וּכַל

yū·ḵal

He

תֵּ֑ת

têṯ;

אִם־

’im-

lo

יָכִ֖ין

שְׁאֵ֣ר

؟ לְעַמּֽוֹ׃

for His people ؟

לָכֵ֤ן ׀

שָׁמַ֥ע

יְהוָ֗ה

Yah·weh

– וַֽיִּתְעַבָּ֥ר

way·yiṯ·‘ab·bār

and was furious –

וְ֭אֵשׁ

wə·’êš

so a fire

נִשְּׂקָ֣ה

niś·śə·qāh

､ בְיַעֲקֹ֑ב

ḇə·ya·‘ă·qōḇ;

against Jacob ､

וְגַם־

wə·ḡam-

and also

אַ֝֗ף

’ap̄,

עָלָ֥ה

‘ā·lāh

– בְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

ḇə·yiś·rā·’êl.

against Israel –

כִּ֤י

kî

לֹ֣א

lō

not

הֶ֭אֱמִינוּ

he·’ĕ·mî·nū

they did believe

､ בֵּאלֹהִ֑ים

bê·lō·hîm;

in God ､

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

and not

בָ֝טְח֗וּ

ḇā·ṭə·ḥū,

. בִּֽישׁוּעָתֽוֹ׃

bî·šū·‘ā·ṯōw.

in His salvation .

וַיְצַ֣ו

way·ṣaw

And yet He had commanded

שְׁחָקִ֣ים

šə·ḥā·qîm

､ מִמָּ֑עַל

mim·mā·‘al;

וְדַלְתֵ֖י

wə·ḏal·ṯê

and the doors

､ שָׁמַ֣יִם

šā·ma·yim

of heaven ､

. פָּתָֽח׃

pā·ṯāḥ.

וַיַּמְטֵ֬ר

way·yam·ṭêr

And Had rained down

עֲלֵיהֶ֣ם

‘ă·lê·hem

מָ֣ן

mān

､ לֶאֱכֹ֑ל

le·’ĕ·ḵōl;

to eat ､

וּדְגַן־

ū·ḏə·ḡa·nō·šā-

and of the bread

שָׁ֝מַ֗יִם

ma·yim,

נָ֣תַן

nā·ṯan

. לָֽמוֹ׃

lā·mōw.

– לֶ֣חֶם

le·ḥem

Food –

אַ֭בִּירִים

’ab·bî·rîm

of mighty [angels]

אָ֣כַל

’ā·ḵal

אִ֑ישׁ

’îš;

צֵידָ֬ה

ṣê·ḏāh

שָׁלַ֖ח

šā·laḥ

לָהֶ֣ם

lā·hem

. לָשֹֽׂבַע׃

lā·śō·ḇa‘.

yas·sa‘

He caused to blow

קָ֭דִים

qā·ḏîm

– בַּשָּׁמָ֑יִם

baš·šā·mā·yim;

in the heavens –

וַיְנַהֵ֖ג

way·na·hêḡ

and He brought in

בְּעֻזּ֣וֹ

bə·‘uz·zōw

. תֵימָֽן׃

ṯê·mān.

the south wind .

וַיַּמְטֵ֬ר

way·yam·ṭêr

And He rained

עֲלֵיהֶ֣ם

‘ă·lê·hem

､ כֶּעָפָ֣ר

ke·‘ā·p̄ār

like the dust ､

שְׁאֵ֑ר

šə·’êr;

וּֽכְח֥וֹל

ū·ḵə·ḥō·wl

and like the sand

､ יַ֝מִּ֗ים

yam·mîm,

of the seas ､

ע֣וֹף

‘ō·wp̄

. כָּנָֽף׃

kā·nāp̄.

וַ֭יַּפֵּל

way·yap·pêl

And He let [them] fall

בְּקֶ֣רֶב

bə·qe·reḇ

in the midst

､ מַחֲנֵ֑הוּ

ma·ḥă·nê·hū;

of their camp ､

סָ֝בִ֗יב

sā·ḇîḇ,

. לְמִשְׁכְּנֹתָֽיו׃

lə·miš·kə·nō·ṯāw.

their dwellings .

､ וַיֹּאכְל֣וּ

way·yō·ḵə·lū

So they ate ､

､ וַיִּשְׂבְּע֣וּ

way·yiś·bə·‘ū

and were filled ､

מְאֹ֑ד

mə·’ōḏ;

– וְ֝תַֽאֲוָתָ֗ם

wə·ṯa·’ă·wā·ṯām,

for their own desire –

יָבִ֥א

yā·ḇi

. לָהֶֽם׃

lā·hem.

לֹא־

lō-

Not

זָר֥וּ

zā·rū

they were deprived

. מִתַּאֲוָתָ֑ם

mit·ta·’ă·wā·ṯām;

of their craving .

ע֝֗וֹד

‘ō·wḏ,

אָכְלָ֥ם

’ā·ḵə·lām

their food [was]

､ בְּפִיהֶֽם׃

bə·p̄î·hem.

still in their mouths ､

וְאַ֤ף

wə·’ap̄

and the wrath

אֱלֹהִ֨ים ׀

’ĕ·lō·hîm

of God

עָ֘לָ֤ה

‘ā·lāh

בָהֶ֗ם

ḇā·hem,

וַֽ֭יַּהֲרֹג

way·ya·hă·rōḡ

and slew

בְּמִשְׁמַנֵּיהֶ֑ם

bə·miš·man·nê·hem;

the stoutest of them

וּבַחוּרֵ֖י

ū·ḇa·ḥū·rê

and the choice [men]

יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל

yiś·rā·’êl

. הִכְרִֽיעַ׃

hiḵ·rî·a‘.

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

זֹ֭את

zōṯ

חָֽטְאוּ־

ḥā·ṭə·’ū-

､ ע֑וֹד

‘ō·wḏ;

וְלֹֽא־

wə·lō-

and not

הֶ֝אֱמִ֗ינוּ

he·’ĕ·mî·nū,

. בְּנִפְלְאוֹתָֽיו׃

bə·nip̄·lə·’ō·w·ṯāw.

in His wondrous works .

וַיְכַל־

way·ḵal-

Therefore He consumed

､ בַּהֶ֥בֶל

ba·he·ḇel

in futility ､

יְמֵיהֶ֑ם

yə·mê·hem;

וּ֝שְׁנוֹתָ֗ם

ū·šə·nō·w·ṯām,

and their years

. בַּבֶּהָלָֽה׃

bab·be·hā·lāh.

in fear .

אִם־

’im-

הֲרָגָ֥ם

hă·rā·ḡām

וּדְרָשׁ֑וּהוּ

ū·ḏə·rā·šū·hū;

then they sought Him

וְ֝שָׁ֗בוּ

wə·šā·ḇū,

and they returned

וְשִֽׁחֲרוּ־

wə·ši·ḥă·rū-

and sought earnestly

. אֵֽל׃

’êl.

וַֽ֭יִּזְכְּרוּ

way·yiz·kə·rū

And they remembered

כִּֽי־

kî-

אֱלֹהִ֣ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

､ צוּרָ֑ם

ṣū·rām;

וְאֵ֥ל

wə·’êl

and the God

עֶ֝לְיוֹן

‘el·yō·wn

. גֹּאֲלָֽם׃

gō·’ă·lām.

their Redeemer .

וַיְפַתּ֥וּהוּ

way·p̄at·tū·hū

And nevertheless they flattered Him

､ בְּפִיהֶ֑ם

bə·p̄î·hem;

with their mouth ､

וּ֝בִלְשׁוֹנָ֗ם

ū·ḇil·šō·w·nām,

and with their tongue

יְכַזְּבוּ־

yə·ḵaz·zə·ḇū-

. לֽוֹ׃

lōw.

to Him .

וְ֭לִבָּם

wə·lib·bām

For their heart

לֹא־

lō-

not

נָכ֣וֹן

nā·ḵō·wn

עִמּ֑וֹ

‘im·mōw;

with Him

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

נֶ֝אֶמְנ֗וּ

ne·’em·nū,

were they faithful

. בִּבְרִיתֽוֹ׃

biḇ·rî·ṯōw.

in His covenant .

､ וְה֤וּא

wə·hū

But He ､

､ רַח֨וּם ׀

ra·ḥūm

[being full] of compassion ､

יְכַפֵּ֥ר

yə·ḵap·pêr

､ עָוֺן֮

‘ā·wōn

[their] iniquity ､

– וְֽלֹא־

wə·lō-

and not –

יַ֫שְׁחִ֥ית

yaš·ḥîṯ

did destroy [them]

וְ֭הִרְבָּה

wə·hir·bāh

and Yes many a time

לְהָשִׁ֣יב

lə·hā·šîḇ

､ אַפּ֑וֹ

’ap·pōw;

וְלֹֽא־

wə·lō-

and not

יָ֝עִיר

yā·‘îr

כָּל־

kāl-

. חֲמָתֽוֹ׃

ḥă·mā·ṯōw.

וַ֭יִּזְכֹּר

way·yiz·kōr

For He remembered

כִּי־

kî-

– בָשָׂ֣ר

ḇā·śār

הֵ֑מָּה

hêm·māh;

they [were but]

ר֥וּחַ

rū·aḥ

､ ה֝וֹלֵ֗ךְ

hō·w·lêḵ,

that passes away ､

וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

and not

. יָשֽׁוּב׃

yā·šūḇ.

does come again .

כַּ֭מָּה

kam·māh

יַמְר֣וּהוּ

yam·rū·hū

they provoked Him

､ בַמִּדְבָּ֑ר

ḇam·miḏ·bār;

in the wilderness ､

יַ֝עֲצִיב֗וּהוּ

ya·‘ă·ṣî·ḇū·hū,

[And] grieved Him

! בִּֽישִׁימֽוֹן׃

bî·šî·mō·wn.

in the desert !

וַיָּשׁ֣וּבוּ

way·yā·šū·ḇū

and Yes again and again

וַיְנַסּ֣וּ

way·nas·sū

and they tempted

､ אֵ֑ל

’êl;

God ､

וּקְד֖וֹשׁ

ū·qə·ḏō·wōš

and the Holy one

יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל

yiś·rā·’êl

. הִתְווּ׃‪‬

hiṯ·wū.

לֹא־

lō-

Not

זָכְר֥וּ

zā·ḵə·rū

they did remember

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ יָד֑וֹ

yā·ḏōw;

י֝֗וֹם

yō·wm,

the day

אֲ‍ֽשֶׁר־

’ăšer-

פָּדָ֥ם

pā·ḏām

He redeemed them

מִנִּי־

min·nî-

. צָֽר׃

ṣār.

the enemy .

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

שָׂ֣ם

śām

､ בְּ֭מִצְרַיִם

bə·miṣ·ra·yim

in Egypt ､

אֹֽתוֹתָ֑יו

’ō·ṯō·w·ṯāw;

וּ֝מוֹפְתָ֗יו

ū·mō·wp̄·ṯāw,

and His wonders

בִּשְׂדֵה־

biś·ḏêh-

in the field

､ צֹֽעַן׃

ṣō·‘an.

of Zoan ､

וַיַּהֲפֹ֣ךְ

way·ya·hă·p̄ōḵ

– לְ֭דָם

lə·ḏām

יְאֹרֵיהֶ֑ם

yə·’ō·rê·hem;

､ וְ֝נֹזְלֵיהֶ֗ם

wə·nō·zə·lê·hem,

and their streams ､

בַּל־

bal-

not

. יִשְׁתָּיֽוּן׃

yiš·tā·yūn.

that they could drink .

יְשַׁלַּ֬ח

yə·šal·laḥ

בָּהֶ֣ם

bā·hem

עָ֭רֹב

‘ā·rōḇ

swarms of [flies]

וַיֹּאכְלֵ֑ם

way·yō·ḵə·lêm;

and which devoured them

､ וּ֝צְפַרְדֵּ֗עַ

ū·ṣə·p̄ar·dê·a‘,

and frogs ､

. וַתַּשְׁחִיתֵֽם׃

wat·taš·ḥî·ṯêm.

and which destroyed them .

וַיִּתֵּ֣ן

way·yit·tên

And He gave

､ לֶחָסִ֣יל

le·ḥā·sîl

to the caterpillar ､

יְבוּלָ֑ם

yə·ḇū·lām;

וִֽ֝יגִיעָ֗ם

wî·ḡî·‘ām,

and their labor

. לָאַרְבֶּֽה׃

lā·’ar·beh.

to the locust .

יַהֲרֹ֣ג

ya·hă·rōḡ

､ בַּבָּרָ֣ד

bab·bā·rāḏ

with hail ､

גַּפְנָ֑ם

gap̄·nām;

וְ֝שִׁקְמוֹתָ֗ם

wə·šiq·mō·w·ṯām,

and their sycamore trees

. בַּֽחֲנָמַֽל׃

ba·ḥă·nā·mal.

with frost .

וַיַּסְגֵּ֣ר

way·yas·gêr

And He gave up

､ לַבָּרָ֣ד

lab·bā·rāḏ

to the hail ､

בְּעִירָ֑ם

bə·‘î·rām;

וּ֝מִקְנֵיהֶ֗ם

ū·miq·nê·hem,

and their flocks

. לָרְשָׁפִֽים׃

lā·rə·šā·p̄îm.

to fiery lightning .

יְשַׁלַּח־

’ap·pōw,

of His anger ､

､ עֶבְרָ֣ה

‘eḇ·rāh

､ וָזַ֣עַם

wā·za·‘am

and indignation ､

､ וְצָרָ֑ה

wə·ṣā·rāh;

and trouble ､

מִ֝שְׁלַ֗חַת

miš·la·ḥaṯ,

by sending [among them]

מַלְאֲכֵ֥י

mal·’ă·ḵê

. רָעִֽים׃

rā·‘îm.

of destruction .

יְפַלֵּ֥ס

yə·p̄al·lês

נָתִ֗יב

nā·ṯîḇ,

– לְאַ֫פּ֥וֹ

lə·’ap·pōw

for His anger –

לֹא־

lō-

not

חָשַׂ֣ךְ

ḥā·śaḵ

､ מִמָּ֣וֶת

mim·mā·weṯ

נַפְשָׁ֑ם

nap̄·šām;

וְ֝חַיָּתָ֗ם

wə·ḥay·yā·ṯām,

– לַדֶּ֥בֶר

lad·de·ḇer

to the plague –

. הִסְגִּֽיר׃

his·gîr.

וַיַּ֣ךְ

way·yaḵ

כָּל־

kāl-

בְּכ֣וֹר

bə·ḵō·wr

– בְּמִצְרָ֑יִם

bə·miṣ·rā·yim;

in Egypt –

רֵאשִׁ֥ית

rê·šîṯ

א֝וֹנִ֗ים

’ō·w·nîm,

of [their] strength

בְּאָהֳלֵי־

bə·’ā·ho·lê-

in the tents

. חָֽם׃

ḥām.

of Ham .

וַיַּסַּ֣ע

way·yas·sa‘

But He made go forth

､ כַּצֹּ֣אן

kaṣ·ṣōn

עַמּ֑וֹ

‘am·mōw;

וַֽיְנַהֲגֵ֥ם

way·na·hă·ḡêm

and guided them

כַּ֝עֵ֗דֶר

ka·‘ê·ḏer,

. בַּמִּדְבָּֽר׃

bam·miḏ·bār.

in the wilderness .

וַיַּנְחֵ֣ם

way·yan·ḥêm

And He led them

､ לָ֭בֶטַח

lā·ḇe·ṭaḥ

on safely ､

– וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

so that not –

פָחָ֑דוּ

p̄ā·ḥā·ḏū;

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

but

א֝וֹיְבֵיהֶ֗ם

’ō·wy·ḇê·hem,

כִּסָּ֥ה

kis·sāh

. הַיָּֽם׃

hay·yām.

the sea .

וַ֭יְבִיאֵם

way·ḇî·’êm

And He brought them

אֶל־

’el-

to

גְּב֣וּל

gə·ḇūl

､ קָדְשׁ֑וֹ

qā·ḏə·šōw;

､ הַר־

har-

זֶ֝֗ה

zeh,

קָנְתָ֥ה

qā·nə·ṯāh

[which] had acquired

. יְמִינֽוֹ׃

yə·mî·nōw.

His right hand .

וַיְגָ֤רֶשׁ

way·ḡā·reš

And He drove out

מִפְּנֵיהֶ֨ם ׀

mip·pə·nê·hem

גּוֹיִ֗ם

gō·w·yim,

וַֽ֭יַּפִּילֵם

way·yap·pî·lêm

and Allotted them

､ בְּחֶ֣בֶל

bə·ḥe·ḇel

by survey ､

נַחֲלָ֑ה

na·ḥă·lāh;

וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֥ן

way·yaš·kên

בְּ֝אָהֳלֵיהֶ֗ם

bə·’ā·ho·lê·hem,

שִׁבְטֵ֥י

šiḇ·ṭê

. יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

yiś·rā·’êl.

וַיְנַסּ֣וּ

way·nas·sū

And yet they tested

וַ֭יַּמְרוּ

way·yam·rū

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ אֱלֹהִ֣ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

God ､

עֶלְי֑וֹן

‘el·yō·wn;

､ וְ֝עֵדוֹתָ֗יו

wə·‘ê·ḏō·w·ṯāw,

and His testimonies ､

לֹ֣א

lō

not

. שָׁמָֽרוּ׃

šā·mā·rū.

､ וַיִּסֹּ֣גוּ

way·yis·sō·ḡū

But turned back ､

וַֽ֭יִּבְגְּדוּ

way·yiḇ·gə·ḏū

and acted unfaithfully

– כַּאֲבוֹתָ֑ם

ka·’ă·ḇō·w·ṯām;

like their fathers –

נֶ֝הְפְּכ֗וּ

neh·pə·ḵū,

they were turned aside

כְּקֶ֣שֶׁת

kə·qe·šeṯ

. רְמִיָּֽה׃

rə·mî·yāh.

וַיַּכְעִיס֥וּהוּ

way·yaḵ·‘î·sū·hū

For they provoked Him to anger

､ בְּבָמוֹתָ֑ם

bə·ḇā·mō·w·ṯām;

with their high places ､

וּ֝בִפְסִילֵיהֶ֗ם

ū·ḇip̄·sî·lê·hem,

and with their carved images

. יַקְנִיאֽוּהוּ׃

yaq·nî·’ū·hū.

moved Him to jealousy .

שָׁמַ֣ע

šā·ma‘

When heard [this]

אֱ֭לֹהִים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

､ וַֽיִּתְעַבָּ֑ר

way·yiṯ·‘ab·bār;

and He was furious ､

וַיִּמְאַ֥ס

way·yim·’as

מְ֝אֹ֗ד

mə·’ōḏ,

– בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

bə·yiś·rā·’êl.

וַ֭יִּטֹּשׁ

way·yiṭ·ṭōš

so that He forsook

מִשְׁכַּ֣ן

miš·kan

､ שִׁל֑וֹ

ši·lōw;

of Shiloh ､

אֹ֝֗הֶל

’ō·hel,

the tent

שִׁכֵּ֥ן

šik·kên

– בָּאָדָֽם׃

bā·’ā·ḏām.

וַיִּתֵּ֣ן

way·yit·tên

､ לַשְּׁבִ֣י

laš·šə·ḇî

into captivity ､

עֻזּ֑וֹ

‘uz·zōw;

וְֽתִפְאַרְתּ֥וֹ

wə·ṯip̄·’ar·tōw

בְיַד־

ḇə·yaḏ-

. צָֽר׃

ṣār.

of enemy .

וַיַּסְגֵּ֣ר

way·yas·gêr

And He gave over

– לַחֶ֣רֶב

la·ḥe·reḇ

to the sword –

עַמּ֑וֹ

‘am·mōw;

וּ֝בְנַחֲלָת֗וֹ

ū·ḇə·na·ḥă·lā·ṯōw,

and with His inheritance

. הִתְעַבָּֽר׃

hiṯ·‘ab·bār.

– בַּחוּרָ֥יו

ba·ḥū·rāw

Their young men –

אָֽכְלָה־

’ā·ḵə·lāh-

אֵ֑שׁ

’êš;

the fire

וּ֝בְתוּלֹתָ֗יו

ū·ḇə·ṯū·lō·ṯāw,

and their maidens

לֹ֣א

lō

not

. הוּלָּֽלוּ׃

hūl·lā·lū.

were given in marriage .

כֹּ֭הֲנָיו

kō·hă·nāw

– בַּחֶ֣רֶב

ba·ḥe·reḇ

by the sword –

נָפָ֑לוּ

nā·p̄ā·lū;

וְ֝אַלְמְנֹתָ֗יו

wə·’al·mə·nō·ṯāw,

and their widows

לֹ֣א

lō

no

. תִבְכֶּֽינָה׃

ṯiḇ·ke·nāh.

made lamentation .

וַיִּקַ֖ץ

way·yi·qaṣ

､ כְּיָשֵׁ֥ן ׀

kə·yā·šên

as [from] sleep ､

אֲדֹנָ֑י

’ă·ḏō·nāy;

the Lord

כְּ֝גִבּ֗וֹר

kə·ḡib·bō·wr,

Like a mighty man

מִתְרוֹנֵ֥ן

miṯ·rō·w·nên

. מִיָּֽיִן׃

mî·yā·yin.

because of wine .

וַיַּךְ־

way·yaḵ-

And He beat

צָרָ֥יו

ṣā·rāw

– אָח֑וֹר

’ā·ḥō·wr;

back –

. חֶרְפַּ֥ת

ḥer·paṯ

to a reproach .

ע֝וֹלָ֗ם

‘ō·w·lām,

נָ֣תַן

nā·ṯan

He put

. לָֽמוֹ׃

lā·mōw.

וַ֭יִּמְאַס

way·yim·’as

Moreover He rejected

בְּאֹ֣הֶל

bə·’ō·hel

the tent

､ יוֹסֵ֑ף

yō·w·sêp̄;

of Joseph ､

וּֽבְשֵׁ֥בֶט

ū·ḇə·šê·ḇeṭ

and the tribe

､ אֶ֝פְרַ֗יִם

’ep̄·ra·yim,

of Ephraim ､

לֹ֣א

lō

not

. בָחָֽר׃

ḇā·ḥār.

וַ֭יִּבְחַר

way·yiḇ·ḥar

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

שֵׁ֣בֶט

šê·ḇeṭ

､ יְהוּדָ֑ה

yə·hū·ḏāh;

of Judah ､

אֶֽת־

’eṯ-

-

הַ֥ר

har

צִ֝יּ֗וֹן

ṣî·yō·wn,

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

. אָהֵֽב׃

’ā·hêḇ.

He loved .

וַיִּ֣בֶן

way·yi·ḇen

And He built

כְּמוֹ־

kə·mōw-

רָ֭מִים

rā·mîm

מִקְדָּשׁ֑וֹ

miq·dā·šōw;

כְּ֝אֶ֗רֶץ

kə·’e·reṣ,

יְסָדָ֥הּ

yə·sā·ḏāh

which He has established

. לְעוֹלָֽם׃

lə·‘ō·w·lām.

וַ֭יִּבְחַר

way·yiḇ·ḥar

And He chose

בְּדָוִ֣ד

bə·ḏā·wiḏ

､ עַבְדּ֑וֹ

‘aḇ·dōw;

His servant ､

וַ֝יִּקָּחֵ֗הוּ

way·yiq·qā·ḥê·hū,

מִֽמִּכְלְאֹ֥ת

mim·miḵ·lə·’ōṯ

. צֹֽאן׃

ṣōn.

the sheepfolds .

מֵאַחַ֥ר

mê·’a·ḥar

עָל֗וֹת

‘ā·lō·wṯ,

the ewes that had young

הֱ֫בִיא֥וֹ

hĕ·ḇî·’ōw

לִ֭רְעוֹת

lir·‘ō·wṯ

בְּיַעֲקֹ֣ב

bə·ya·‘ă·qōḇ

､ עַמּ֑וֹ

‘am·mōw;

וּ֝בְיִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל

ū·ḇə·yiś·rā·’êl,

. נַחֲלָתֽוֹ׃

na·ḥă·lā·ṯōw.

His inheritance .

וַ֭יִּרְעֵם

way·yir·‘êm

So he shepherded them

כְּתֹ֣ם

kə·ṯōm

according to the integrity

– לְבָב֑וֹ

lə·ḇā·ḇōw;

of his heart –

וּבִתְבוּנ֖וֹת

ū·ḇiṯ·ḇū·nō·wṯ

and by the skillfulness

כַּפָּ֣יו

kap·pāw

. יַנְחֵֽם׃

yan·ḥêm.
