And Joshua said to Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to LORD, the God of Israel, and make confession to him, and tell me now what thou have done. Hide it not from me.
And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Of a truth I have sinned against LORD, the God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:
Then Joshua built an altar to LORD, the God of Israel, in mount Ebal,
And the sons of Israel did not smite them, because the rulers of the congregation had sworn to them by LORD, the God of Israel. And all the congregation murmured against the rulers.
But all the rulers said to all the congregation, We have sworn to them by LORD, the God of Israel, now therefore we may not touch them.
So Joshua smote all the land, the hill-country, and the South, and the lowland, and the slopes, and all their kings. He left none remaining, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as LORD, the God of Israel, commanded.
And all these kings and their land Joshua took at one time, because LORD, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.
Only to the tribe of Levi he gave no inheritance. The offerings of LORD, the God of Israel, made by fire are his inheritance as he spoke to him.
But to the tribe of Levi Moses gave no inheritance. LORD, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, as he spoke to them.
Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day because he wholly followed LORD, the God of Israel.
Thus says the whole congregation of LORD, What trespass is this that ye have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following LORD, in that ye have built for you an altar, to rebel this day against LORD?
and if we have not [rather] out of carefulness done this, from purpose, saying, In time to come your sons might speak to our sons, saying, What have ye to do with LORD, the God of Israel?
And Joshua said to all the people, Thus says LORD, the God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt of old time beyond the River, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nahor, and they served other gods.
Now therefore, [he said], put away the foreign gods which are among you, and incline your heart to LORD, the God of Israel.
