'Labored in Vain' in the Bible

And the fish which is in the river shall die, and the river be loathsome: and the Egyptians labored in vain to drink the water from the river.

Song of ascensions to Solomon. If Jehovah shall not build the house, they building it, in it labored in vain. If Jehovah shall not watch the city, he watching, watched in vain.

But I said, I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nought and vanity; yet surely the justice due to me is with Jehovah, and my recompense with my God.
