John 5:1-13 - A Paralytic Is Healed

¹ AFTER these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. ² And there is at Jerusalem, by the sheep-gate, a pool, called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. ³ In these lay a multitude of sick, blind, lame, withered. ⁴ (Added verse not retained in Sawyer)

⁵ And there was a certain man there who had been sick thirty-eight years. ⁶ Jesus seeing him lying, and knowing that he had now been sick a long time, said to him, Do you wish to become well?

⁷ The sick man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is disturbed, to put me into the pool; but while I am coming another goes down before me.

⁸ Jesus said to him, Arise, take up your bed and walk. ⁹ And the man immediately became well, and took up his bed and walked. That day was the sabbath. ¹⁰ The Jews, therefore, said to him that was cured, It is the sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry the bed.

¹¹ He answered them, He that made me well, he said to me, Take up your bed and walk.

¹² They asked him, Who is the man that said to you, Take up your bed and walk? ¹³ And the sick man knew not who it was; for Jesus had gone away, a multitude being in that place.
