John 5:1-13 - A Paralytic Is Healed

AFTER these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2 And there is at Jerusalem, by the sheep-gate, a pool, called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. 3 In these lay a multitude of sick, blind, lame, withered. 4 (Added verse not retained in Sawyer)

And there was a certain man there who had been sick thirty-eight years. 6 Jesus seeing him lying, and knowing that he had now been sick a long time, said to him, Do you wish to become well?

The sick man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is disturbed, to put me into the pool; but while I am coming another goes down before me.

Jesus said to him, Arise, take up your bed and walk. 9 And the man immediately became well, and took up his bed and walked. That day was the sabbath. 10 The Jews, therefore, said to him that was cured, It is the sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry the bed.

He answered them, He that made me well, he said to me, Take up your bed and walk.

They asked him, Who is the man that said to you, Take up your bed and walk? 13 And the sick man knew not who it was; for Jesus had gone away, a multitude being in that place.
