Matthew 19:16-30 - A Rich Young Man

Matthew 19:16-30

16 And behold, one came, and said unto him, Good master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?"

17 He said unto him, "Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, and that is, God: But if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments."

18 The other said, "Which?" And Jesus said, "Thou shalt not kill: thou shalt not break wedlock. Thou shall not steal: thou shalt not bear false witness. 19 Honour father and mother: and thou shalt love thine neighbor as thyself."

20 And the young man said unto him, "I have observed all these things from my youth, what lack I yet?"

21 And Jesus said unto him, "If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give it to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me."

22 When the young man heard that saying, he went away mourning. For he had great possessions.

23 Then Jesus said then unto his disciples: "Verily I say unto you, it is hard for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven. 24 And moreover I say unto you: it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."

25 When his disciples heard that, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, "Who then can be saved?"

26 Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

27 Then answered Peter, and said to him, "Behold we have forsaken all, and have followed thee: what shall we have therefore?"

28 Jesus said unto them, "Verily I say to you, When the son of man shall sit in the seat of his majesty, ye which follow me in the second generation shall sit also upon twelve seats, and judge the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And whosoever forsaketh houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake; the same shall receive a hundred fold, and shall inherit everlasting life. 30 Many that are first, shall be last; and the last shall be first.

Mark 10:17-31

17 And when he was come out into the way, there came one running and kneeled to him, and asked him, "Good Master, what shall I do, that I may inherit eternal life?"

18 Jesus said to him, "Why callest thou me good? There is no man good but one, which is God. 19 Thou knowest the commandments: break not matrimony, kill not, steal not, bear no false witness, defraud no man, honour thy father and thy mother."

20 He answered and said to him, "Master, all these I have observed from my youth."

21 Jesus beheld him, and had a favour to him, and said unto him, "One thing is lacking unto thee. Go, and sell all that thou hast, and give it to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me, and take up thy cross on thee." 22 But he was discomforted with that saying, and went away mourning, for he had great possessions.

23 And Jesus looked round about, and said unto his disciples, "What a hard thing it is for them that have riches enter into the kingdom of God." 24 And his disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answered again, and said unto them, "Children: how hard is it for them, that trust in their riches, to enter into the kingdom of God? 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of an needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."

26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying between themselves, "Who then can be saved?"

27 Jesus looked upon them, and said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible."

28 And Peter began to say unto him, "Lo, we have forsaken all, and have followed thee."

29 Jesus answered and said, "Verily I say unto you, there is no man that hath forsaketh house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, other children, or lands, for my sake and the gospel's, 30 which shall not receive a hundred fold now in this life, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers and children, and lands with persecutions, and in the world to come eternal life. 31 Many that are first, shall be last. And the last, first."

Luke 18:18-30

18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, "Good Master: what ought I to do, to obtain eternal life?"

19 Jesus said unto him, "Why callest thou me good? None is good, save God only. 20 Thou knowest the commandments: Thou shalt not commit adultery, thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not bear false witness; Honour thy father, and thy mother."

21 And he said, "All of these have I kept from my youth."

22 When Jesus heard that, he said unto him, "Yet lackest thou one thing. Sell all that thou hast, and distribute it unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, and follow me."

23 When he heard that, he was heavy, for he was very rich.

24 When Jesus saw him mourn, he said, "With what difficulty shall they that have riches, enter into the kingdom of God: 25 Easier it is for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."

26 Then said they that heard that, "And who shall then be saved?"

27 And he said, "Things which are impossible with men are possible with God."

28 Then Peter said, "Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee."

29 And he said unto them, "Verily I say unto you, there is no man that leaveth house: other father and mother, other brethren, or wife, or children: for the kingdom of God's sake, 30 which same shall not receive much more in this world, and in the world to come: life everlasting."
