John 7:40-53 - Different Opinions About Jesus
40 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this discourse, said, This is in truth a prophet. 41 Others said, This is the Messiah. But some said, Shall the Messiah come out of Galilee? 42 Hath not the Scripture said, that Christ cometh of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the town whence David was. 43 So there was a division among the people about Him. 44 And some among them would have seized Him: but no one laid hands on Him.
45 Then came the officers to the chief priests and pharisees, and they said, Why have ye not brought Him? and the officers answered,
46 Never man spake like this man.
47 The pharisees therefore answered them, Are ye also deceived? 48 have any of the rulers believed on Him, or of the pharisees? 49 but these people, who know not the law, are cursed.
50 Upon this Nicodemus, (who came to Him by night) 51 being one of them, saith to them, Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he hath done?
52 They replied, Art thou also of Galilee? Search and see: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.
53 And every man went to his own house.
