Matthew 26:31-35 - Jesus Predicts Peter's Denial

³¹ Then Jesus said to them: All of you will he offended at me this night; for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered.

³² But after I have risen, I will go before you into Galilee.

³³ Peter answered and said to him: Though all shall be offended at thee, yet will I never be offended.

³⁴ Jesus said to him: Verily I say to you, This night, before the cock crows, you will deny me three times.

³⁵ Peter said to him: Though it should be necessary for me to die with thee, I will not deny thee. In like manner said all the disciples.

²⁷ And Jesus said to them: All of you will find in me an occasion for offense this night; for it is written: I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.

²⁸ But after I have risen, I will go before you into Galilee.

²⁹ Peter said to him: Though all should find occasion for offense, yet I will not.

³⁰ And Jesus said to him: Verily I say to you, this day, during this very night, before the cock crows twice, you will deny me three times.

³¹ But he said with the more vehemence: Though it should be necessary for me to die with thee, I would not deny thee. And so said they all.

³¹ And the Lord said: Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded you apostles for himself, that he may sift you as wheat. ³² But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith fail not. And when you have turned to me again, strengthen your brethren.

³³ And he said to him: Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both to prison and to death.

³⁴ He replied: I tell you, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day before you have three times denied that you know me.

³¹ When he had gone out, Jesus said: Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him. ³² If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and will immediately glorify him.

³³ Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me, and, as I said to the Jews, whither I go, you can not come, so now I say to you.

³⁴ A new commandment I give to you, That you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. ³⁵ By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one for another.

³⁶ Simon Peter said to him: Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him: Whither I go, you can not follow me now; but you shall follow me hereafter.

³⁷ Peter said to him: Lord, why can I not follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thee.

³⁸ Jesus answered him: Will you lay down your life for me? Verily, verily I say to you, the cock will not crow till you have denied me three times.
