Matthew 10:34-39 - Not Peace, But A Sword Of Divisiveness

³⁴ "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace but a sword. ³⁵ For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law, ³⁶ and a man's enemies will be members of his own family.

³⁷ Anybody who loves father or mother more than he loves me is not worthy of me, ³⁸ and nobody is worthy of me who does not take up his cross and follow me. ³⁹ Anybody who gains his lower life will lose the higher life, and anybody who loses his lower life for my sake will gain the higher life.

⁴⁹ "It is fire that I have come to bring upon the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! ⁵⁰ I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how I am pressed with anguish till it is accomplished! ⁵¹ Do you think that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not so at all, but rather discord. ⁵² For from now on, five in a house will be divided, three against two, and two against three.

⁵³ Father will be against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."
