1 Then He called His twelve disciples to Him, and gave them authority over foul spirits, so that they could drive them out, and so that they could cure any disease or ailment.
1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.
1 Then Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority over unclean spirits, so that they could drive them out and heal every disease and every illness.
2 Here are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon, who was named Peter, and his brother Andrew, James the son of Zebedee and his brother John,
2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

3 Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the tax-collector, James the son of Alpheus, and Thaddeus,

4 Simon the zealot, and Judas Iscariot, who afterward betrayed Him.
4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.
4 Simon the Cananaean and Judas Iscariot, who later betrayed Jesus.
5 Jesus sent these twelve out, after giving them the following charge: "Do not go to the heathen, or to any Samaritan town,
5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
5 These were the Twelve whom Jesus sent out after he had given them these instructions: "Don't turn on to the road that leads to the unbelievers, and don't enter Samaritan towns.
7 And as you go continue to preach, 'The kingdom of heaven is near.'
7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
7 As you go, make this announcement: "The kingdom from heaven is near!'
8 Keep on curing the sick, raising the dead, healing lepers, and driving out demons. You received and gave no pay; you must give and take none.
8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.
8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, drive out demons. You have received without payment, so give without payment.
9 Do not accept gold or silver or even copper money for your purse,
9 Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,
9 Don't take any gold, silver, or copper in your moneybags,
10 and do not take a bag for your journey, nor two shirts, nor any shoes, nor a staff, for the workman deserves his support.
10 Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.
10 or a traveling bag for the trip, or an extra shirt, or sandals, or a walking stick, because a worker deserves his food.
11 Into whatever town or village you go, inquire for some deserving person, and stay at his house until you leave the place.
11 And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, inquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence.
11 “When you enter any town or village, find out who is worthy, and stay there until you leave.
11 "Whatever town or village you enter, find out who is receptive in it and stay there until you leave.
13 and if the house should prove deserving, may your good wish for peace upon it come true, but if not, may your good wish bring peace to yourselves.
13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.
13 If the household is receptive, let your blessing of peace come on it. But if it isn't receptive, let your blessing of peace return to you.
14 And whoever will not welcome you, or listen to your words, on leaving that place shake off from your feet its very dust.
14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
14 If no one welcomes you or listens to your words, as you leave that house or town, shake its dust off your feet.
15 I tell you, the punishment on the day of judgment will be lighter for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town.
15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
15 I tell all of you with certainty, it will be more bearable for the region of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town!"
16 "Listen! I am sending you out as sheep surrounded by wolves. So you must be sensible like serpents and guileless like doves.
16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
16 "Pay attention, now! I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. So be as cunning as serpents and as innocent as doves.
17 Be on your guard against men, for they will turn you over to the courts and will flog you in their synagogues,
17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;
17 Watch out for people who will hand you over to the local councils and whip you in their synagogues.
18 and you will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness to them and the heathen.
18 and you will even be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.
18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
18 You will be brought before governors and kings because of me, to testify to them and to unbelievers.
19 But when they turn you over to the courts, you must not worry at all about how or what you ought to speak, for it will be given you at that hour what you ought to speak.
19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.
19 When they hand you over, don't worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say, because in that hour what you are to say will be given to you.
20 For it is not you who are speaking, but the Spirit of your Father that is speaking through you.
20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.
20 It won't be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
21 One brother will turn another over to death, and a father his child, and children will take a stand against their parents, and will have them put to death.
21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.
21 "Brother will hand brother over for execution, and a father his child. Children will rebel against parents and have them put to death.
22 And you will be hated by all men, because you bear my name, but whoever bears up to the end will be saved.
22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.
22 You will be hated by everyone because of my name. But the person who endures to the end will be saved.
23 But whenever they persecute you in one town, flee to a different one. For I solemnly say to you, you will not cover all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man returns.
23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.
23 So when they persecute you in one town, flee to the next, because I tell all of you with certainty that you will not have gone through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
24 No pupil is better than his teacher, and no slave is better than his master.
24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.
24 "A disciple is not above his teacher, and a slave is not above his master.
25 The pupil should be satisfied to become like his teacher, and the slave should be satisfied to become like his master. If men have called the Head of the house Beelzebub, how much worse names will they heap upon the members of His family!
25 It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. (AM)If they have called the head of the house (w)(AN)Beelzebul, how much more will they malign the members of his household!
25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?
25 It is enough for a disciple to be like his teacher and a slave to be like his master. If they have called the head of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they do the same to those of his household!"
26 So you must never be afraid of them, for there is nothing covered that will not be uncovered, nor a secret that will not be known.
26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.
26 "So never be afraid of them, because there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed, and nothing secret that will not be made known.
27 What I speak to you in the dark, tell in the light, and what you hear whispered in your ears, you must proclaim from housetops.
27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.
27 What I tell you in darkness you must speak in the daylight, and what is whispered in your ear you must shout from the housetops.
28 You must never be afraid of those who kill the body, but cannot kill the soul. But rather you must keep on fearing Him who can destroy both soul and body in the pit.
28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
28 Stop being afraid of those who kill the body but can't kill the soul. Instead, be afraid of the one who can destroy both body and soul in hell.
29 Do not sparrows sell for a cent apiece? And yet not one of them can fall to the ground without your Father's notice.
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
29 "Two sparrows are sold for a penny, aren't they? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father's permission.
31 So stop being afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
31 So stop being afraid. You are worth more than a bunch of sparrows."
32 Therefore, everyone who will own me before men I will own before my Father in heaven,
32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
32 "Therefore, everyone who acknowledges me before people I, too, will acknowledge before my Father in heaven.
33 but anyone who disowns me before men I will disown before my Father in heaven.
33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
33 But whoever denies me before people I, too, will deny before my Father in heaven."
34 "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace but a sword.
34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
34 "Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword!
35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law,
35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
35 For I came to turna man against his father,a daughter against her mother,a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
35 I came to turn "a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
36 and a man's enemies will be members of his own family.
36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
36 A person's enemies will include members of his own family.'
37 Anybody who loves father or mother more than he loves me is not worthy of me,
37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
37 "The one who loves his father or mother more than me isn't worthy of me, and the one who loves a son or daughter more than me isn't worthy of me.
38 and nobody is worthy of me who does not take up his cross and follow me.
38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
38 The one who doesn't take up his cross and follow me isn't worthy of me.
39 Anybody who gains his lower life will lose the higher life, and anybody who loses his lower life for my sake will gain the higher life.
39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
39 The one who finds his life will lose it, and the one who loses his life because of me will find it."
40 "Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes Him who sent me.
40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
40 "The one who receives you receives me, and the one who receives me receives the one who sent me.
41 Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive the same reward as a prophet, and whoever welcomes an upright man as such will receive the same reward as the upright man.
41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.
41 Anyone who(p) welcomes a prophet(AT) because he is a prophet(q) will receive a prophet’s reward. And anyone who(r) welcomes a righteous person because he’s righteous(s) will receive a righteous person’s reward.
41 The one who receives a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and the one who receives a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person's reward.
42 And I solemnly say to you, no one who gives a cup of cold water to one of the least of my disciples, because he is a disciple, will ever fail to get his reward."
42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
42 I tell all of you with certainty, whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is a disciple will never lose his reward."
