Deuteronomy 18:9-22 - Occult Practices Versus Prophetic Revelation

9 When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, see that thou learn not to do after the abominations of these nations. 10 Let there not be found among you that maketh his son or his daughter go through fire, either a bruterer or a maker of dismal days, or that useth witchcraft, or a sorcerer, 11 or a charmer, or that speaketh with a spirit, or a soothsayer, or that asketh the advice of the dead. 12 For all that do such things are abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth cast them out before thee. 13 Be pure therefore with the LORD thy God. 14 For these nations which thou shalt conquer hearken unto makers of dismal days and bruterers. But the LORD thy God permitteth not that to thee.

15 The LORD thy God will stir up a Prophet among you: even of thy brethren, like unto me, and unto him ye shall hearken 16 according to all that thou desiredest of the LORD thy God in Horeb in the day when the people were gathered, saying, 'Let me hear the voice of my LORD God no more, nor see this great fire any more, that I die not.' 17 And the LORD said unto me, 'They have well spoken; 18 I will raise them up a prophet from among their brethren like unto thee and will put my words into his mouth and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. 19 And whosoever will not hearken unto the words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him. 20 But the prophet which shall presume to speak ought in my name which I commanded him not to speak, and he that speaketh in the name of strange gods, the same prophet shall die.' 21 And if thou say in thine heart, 'How shall I know that which the LORD hath not spoken?' 22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken. But the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: be not afeared therefore of him.
