Matthew 16:13-20 - Peter's Confession At Caesarea Philippi

Matthew 16:13-20

13 When Jesus came into the neighborhood of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of man is?"

14 They replied, "Some say 'John the Baptist'; others, however, say that 'He is Elijah'; others, 'Jeremiah,' or 'One of the Prophets.'"

15 "And who do you say that I am?" he asked them.

16 So Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

17 "Blessed are you, Simon, Son of Jonah," said Jesus; "for flesh and blood have not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven! 18 "Moreover I say to you that you are Petros (a rock), and on this petra (rock) I will build my church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against her. 19 "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind upon the earth shall be bound in the heavens, and whatever you loose upon earth shall be loosed in the heavens."

20 Then he enjoined his disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.

Mark 8:27-30

27 From there Jesus and his disciples went to the villages of Caesarea Philippi, and on the way he began to question his disciples saying, "Who do people say I am?"

28 And they told him. "Some say John the Baptist, others, Elijah, and others that you are one of the prophets."

29 And he continued questioning them, "But you yourselves, Who do you say I am?" Peter in reply said to him, "You are Christ."

30 Then he strictly charged them not to say this about him to any one;
