Matthew 16:24-28 - Taking Up One's Cross To Follow Jesus

Matthew 16:24-28

24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone wants to go with me, he must disregard himself and take his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever wants to preserve his own life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for me will find it. 26 For what good will it do a man if he gains the whole world but parts with his life? What can a man give to buy back his life? 27 For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in his Father's glory, and then he will repay everyone for what he has done. 28 I tell you, some of you who stand here will certainly live to see the Son of Man come to reign!"

Mark 8:34-Mark 9:1

34 And he called the people and his disciples to him and said to them, "If anyone wants to go with me, he must disregard himself, and take his cross and follow me. 35 For whoever wants to preserve his own life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for me and for the good news will preserve it. 36 For what good does it do a man to gain the whole world and yet part with his life? 37 For what can a man give to buy back his life? 38 For if anyone is ashamed of me and my teachings in this unfaithful and sinful age, then the Son of Man will be ashamed of him, when he comes back in his Father's glory, with the holy angels."

1 And he said to them, "I tell you, some of you who stand here will certainly live to see the reign of God come in its might."

Luke 9:23-27

23 And he said to everyone, "If anyone wants to go with me, he must disregard himself, and take his cross day after day and follow me. 24 For whoever wants to preserve his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for me will preserve it. 25 What good does it do a man to gain the whole world and lose or forfeit himself? 26 For if anyone is ashamed of me and my teaching the Son of Man will be ashamed of him, when he comes with all the glory of his Father and of the holy angels. 27 I tell you, some of you who stand here will certainly live to see the Kingdom of God!"
