Matthew 26:47-56 - The Betrayal And Arrest Of Jesus

Matthew 26:47-56

47 And as He was yet speaking, behold, Judas came, one of the Twelve. And with him came a great crowd with swords and clubs, being sent from the chief priests and elders of the people. 48 And he who betrayed Him gave them a sign, saying, Whomever I shall kiss, He is the one, lay hold on Him. 49 And coming up to Jesus immediately, he said, Hail, Master! And he kissed Him.

50 And Jesus said to him, Friend, why are you here? Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took Him. 51 And, behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, and he struck a servant of the high priest and cut off his ear.

52 Then Jesus said to him, Put up your sword again into its place; for all who take the sword shall perish with a sword. 53 Do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He shall presently give Me more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then shall the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?

55 In that hour Jesus said to the crowds, Have you come out in order to take Me with swords and clubs, as against a thief? I sat daily with you, teaching in the temple, and you did not lay hands on Me. 56 But all this happened that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples fled, forsaking Him.

Mark 14:43-52

43 And immediately, while He still spoke, Judas, being one of the Twelve, came, and with him a great crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. 44 And he who betrayed Him had given them a sign, saying, Whomever I shall kiss, it is He. Take Him and lead Him away safely. 45 And coming, at once drawing near to Him, he said, Rabbi, Rabbi! And he ardently kissed Him. 46 And they laid their hands on Him and seized Him. 47 And one of those standing by, drawing a sword, struck a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

48 And answering Jesus said to them, Have you come out with swords and clubs, as against a robber, to take Me? 49 I was with you daily in the temple teaching, and you did not seize Me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled. 50 And leaving Him, all fled.

51 And one, a certain young man, followed Him, having thrown a linen cloth around his naked body. And the young men caught him. 52 And he left the linen cloth and fled from them naked.

Luke 22:47-53

47 And as He was yet speaking, behold a crowd! And he who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, went before them. And he drew near Jesus to kiss Him. 48 But Jesus said to him, Judas, do you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?

49 And those around Him seeing what was about to occur, they said to him, Lord, shall we strike with the sword? 50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.

51 And Jesus answered and said, Let it go until now. And touching his ear, He healed him. 52 And Jesus said to the chief priests and commanders of the temple, and the elders, who had come to Him, Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and staves? 53 When I was with you in the temple daily, you did not stretch out your hand on Me. But this is your hour, and the authority of the darkness.
