John 8:39-59 - The Priority Of Jesus Over Abraham

They answered and said to him, Our father is Abraham. Jesus said to them, If you were children of Abraham, you would have done the works of Abraham; 40 but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth, which I have heard from God; Abraham did not do this. 41 You do the works of your father. They said to him, We were not born by fornication, we have one father, God.

Jesus said to them, If God was your father you would have loved me; for I came forth and come from God; for I came not of myself, but he sent me. 43 Why do you not understand my speech? because you cannot hear my word. 44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you will to do. He was a murderer from the beginning and stood not by the truth; for truth is not in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own; for he is a liar, and the father of him [that lies]. 45 But because I tell you the truth you believe me not. 46 Who of you convicts me of a sin? If I say the truth, why do you not believe me? 47 He that is of God hears the words of God; you, therefore, hear not, because you are not of God.

The Jews answered and said to him, Say we not well that you are a Samaritan, and have a demon?

Jesus answered, I have not a demon; but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me. 50 But I seek not my glory; there is one that seeks and judges. 51 I tell you most truly, if any one shall keep my word he shall never see death.

The Jews said to him, Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets; and you say, If any one shall keep my word he shall never taste death. 53 Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? and the prophets died; whom do you make yourself?

Jesus answered, If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing; it is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say, He is our God; 55 and you have not known him, but I have known him; and if I should say I do not know him, I should be a liar like you; but I know him and keep his word. 56 Abraham your father rejoiced to see my day, and he saw, and was glad.

Then the Jews said to him, You have not yet fifty years, and have you seen Abraham?

Jesus said to them, I tell you most truly, that before Abraham existed, I am.

Then they took up stones to cast at him; but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple.
