Matthew 21:1-11 - The Triumphal Entry

Matthew 21:1-11

1 When they drew near to Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent away two disciples, 2 saying to them, Go into the village over against you, and you will immediately find a donkey tied, and the colt with her: loosing, lead her to me. 3 And if any one may say any thing to you, tell him, that the Lord hath need of them; and immediately he will send them away.

4 And all this took place, that the word spoken by the prophet might be fulfilled, saying,

5 Say to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy King cometh, meek, and seated upon a donkey, even a colt, the progeny of the work-beast.

6 And the disciples, having gone and done as Jesus commanded them, 7 led the donkey, and the colt, and put their garments on them; and He sat on them. 8 A great multitude strewed their garments in the road: and others cut down the branches from the trees, and were strewing them in the road. 9 And the multitudes going forward, and following, continued to cry out, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest!

10 And He having come into Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred, saying; Who is He? 11 And the multitudes continued to say, He is the prophet Jesus, the one from Nazareth of Galilee.

Mark 11:1-11

1 And when they draw nigh to Jerusalem and to Bethany, to the Mount of Olives, He sends away two of His disciples, 2 and says to them, Go into the village over against you: and immediately entering into it, you will find a colt tied, on which no one of men has ever sat; loosing him, lead him away. 3 And if any one may say to you, Why do you this? say to him, that the Lord hath need of him; and immediately he sends him hither.

4 Then they departed, and found the colt tied at the door without at the crossing of the road; and they are loosing him. 5 And certain ones of those standing there said to them, What are you doing, loosing the colt? 6 And they said to them as Jesus commanded: and they permitted them. 7 And they lead the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and He sat on him.

8 And many strewed their garments in the road; and others were cutting down the branches of the trees, (and strewing them in the road), 9 And those going before, and those following after, continued to cry out, Hosanna: blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord: 10 blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David: Hosanna in the highest!

11 And He came into Jerusalem, into the temple; and looking round upon all things, the hour being already late, He went out into Bethany along with the twelve.

Luke 19:28-40

28 And speaking these things, He was journeying before them, going up to Jerusalem. 29 And it came to pass, when He drew nigh unto Bethphage and Bethany, to the mount called the Mount of Olives, and He sent away two of His disciples, 30 saying, Go into the village over against you; in which entering you will find a colt tied, on which no one of men ever sat: loosing, lead him hither. 31 And if any one may ask you, Why do you loose him? thus say to him, that the Lord hath need of him:

32 and those having been sent, departing, found as Jesus told them. 33 And they loosing the donkey, his master said to them, Why do you loose the donkey?

34 And they said, The Lord hath need of him. 35 And they led him to Jesus: and casting their garments on the colt, they mounted Jesus on them. 36 And He going forward, they were strewing their garments in the road. 37 And He already drawing nigh to the descension of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God with a loud voice for all those miracles which they saw; shouting,

38 saying, Blessed is the King coming in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

39 And certain ones of the Pharisees from the multitude said to Him, Teacher, rebuke thy disciples:

40 and He responding said to them, I say unto you, that if these may keep silent, the rocks will cry out.

John 12:12-19

12 On the following day a great multitude having come to the feast, hearing that Jesus comes into Jerusalem, 13 They took the branches of the palm-trees, and went out to meet Him, and continued to cry out, Hosanna: blessed is He that cometh, in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel.

14 And Jesus, having found a young donkey, sat upon him, as has been written, 15 Fear not, daughter of Zion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting upon the colt of a donkey.

16 But His disciples at first did not understand these things: but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written in reference to Him, and they did them to Him. 17 Then the multitude being with Him witnessed that He called Lazarus out of the sepulcher, and raised him from the dead. 18 Therefore the multitude also went to meet Him, because they heard that He had wrought this miracle.

19 Then the Pharisees said to one another, You see, that you are prevailing as to nothing: behold, the world has gone away after Him.
