Matthew 8:18-22 - Would-Be Followers
18 And Jesus, seeing great multitudes about him, gave orders to depart to the other side. 19 And a certain scribe came and said to him, Teacher, I will follow thee wherever thou goest.
20 And Jesus saith to him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have lodgingplaces; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
21 And another of the disciples said to him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
22 But he saith to him, Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.
57 And as they were traveling on the way, one said to him, I will follow thee wherever thou goest.
58 And Jesus said to him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have lodgingplaces; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. 59 And he said to another, Follow me. But he said, Suffer me first to go and bury my father.
60 And he said to him, Let the dead bury their own dead; but go thou and carry the tidings of the kingdom of God.
61 And another also said, I will follow thee, Lord; but first let me bid farewell to those who are in my house.
62 And Jesus said to him, No one who looketh back after putting his hand to the plough is fit for the kingdom of God.
