Birds of all kinds abound in Palestine, and the capture of these for the table and for other uses formed the employment of many persons. The traps and snares used for this purpose are mentioned Ho 5:1; Pr 7:23; 22:5; Am 3:5; Ps 69:22; comp. De 22:6-7.

If a bird's nest happens to be before you in the way in any tree, or on the ground, whether they are young ones, or eggs, and the mother sitting upon the young, or upon the eggs, you shall not take the mother with the young: But you shall surely let the mother go, and take the young for yourself; that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days.
