For the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim. And therefore they gave no part unto the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in and the suburbs of the same, for their beasts and cattle.

And Joshua answered the house of Joseph, Ephraim and Manasseh, saying, "Ye be much people and have great power and shall not therefore have one lot.
Divide it into seven parts. For Judah shall abide by their coasts in the south, and the house of Joseph shall stand to their coasts in the north.
And the lot of the tribe of the children of Benjamin came up according to their kindreds. And the coasts of their lot came out between the children of Judah and the children of Joseph.
And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought out of Egypt, they buried in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem, for a hundredth pieces of silver, which parcel became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.
