Chastisement » Why the lord chastens people
Endure [it] for discipline. God is dealing with you as sons. For what son [is there] whom a father does not discipline? But if you are without discipline, in which all [legitimate sons] have become participants, then you are illegitimate and not sons. But if we were evaluating ourselves, we would not be judged. But [if we] are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined, in order that we will not be condemned with the world.

For God did not send his Son into the world in order that he should judge the world, but in order that the world should be saved through him. The one who believes in him is not judged, but the one who does not believe has already been judged, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.

But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have a reason for boasting in himself alone, and not in someone else.
