then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at once, the majority of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep.

And Yahweh said to Moses, "Look, you [are] about to lie [down] with your ancestors, and this people will arise and they will play the prostitute after {the foreign gods} of the land {to which they are going}.

And why do you not pardon my transgression and take away my guilt? For now I shall lie in the dust, and you will seek me, but {I will be no more}."


He said these [things], and after this he said to them, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going so that I can awaken him."

For David, [after] serving the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and {was buried with} his fathers, and experienced decay.

{so} a man lies down, and he does not arise. {Until the heavens are no more}, they will not awaken, and they will not be roused out of their sleep.

At their becoming hot I will set their banquets, and I will make them drunk, so that they will fall into a swoon, and they will sleep {an everlasting sleep}, and they will not wake up," {declares} Yahweh.



Behold, I tell you a mystery: we will not all fall asleep, but we will all be changed,

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose [again], thus also God will bring those who have fallen asleep through Jesus together with him. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who remain until the Lord's coming, will not possibly precede those who have fallen asleep.





Now if Christ is preached as raised up from the dead, how do some among you say that [there] is no resurrection of the dead? But if [there] is no resurrection of the dead, Christ has not been raised [either]. But if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching [is] in vain, and your faith [is] in vain. read more.
And also we are found [to be] false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if after all, then, the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, Christ has not been raised [either]. But if Christ has not been raised, your faith [is] empty; you are still in your sins. And as a further result, those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If {we have put our hope} in Christ in this life only, we are of all people most pitiable.
